So I am in a unsure situation. I am not brand loyal at all but considering going diesel because I want something with more power despite I do not pull that much. Currently I drive a 2015 gmc gasser. Below are pictures of it.....

Also the diesel I'm

Looking at is the 2017 power stroke. Some people tel me to get it and others say keep what I got.... I'm confused on what to do!!

What do you guys think?

I still owe on my sierra and if I went to a diesel its only 100$ extra a payment than what I'm

Making now. Of course I would be losing. What I put into my sierra but in what world would I ever make that money back?

I decided to go with a Sierra 1500 6.2L gas instead of a diesel. I also was considering a diesel just because I wanted the power. I tow a little, but not enough to justify the diesel but I wanted one anyway.

The reason I choose to get the 6.2L instead of the diesel is cost. Not because I can't afford it, but because it is a lot of unnecessary expense that could be better allocated on other things for my truck. You have the extra cost of the engine itself and then you have the extra cost of maintenance. Next, the first thing I would want to do is rip all that EPA garbage off the truck (exhaust, DPF, etc..). This also requires tuning the truck. At that point, you have just voided the warranty on a $65k+ truck. I was not comfortable making that move and thus decided the 6.2L was a better balance and choice for me.

If you don't care about a warranty or excess cost, then that pretty much answers your question. Get all the torque you can get from it!

Just my opinion.

IMO, the new 6.2 is the most badass gas engine ever offered in a gm truck. Very mod friendly and fuel efficient.

Diesels had more advantages over the gassers in the past. I just can't imagine going diesel for the sake of having an awesome DD. I'd probably only get it if I needed it for what it's intended fo do, tow.

Just sold my LMM Duramax and have a 6.2L gas burner on order. I test drove the 6.2L pretty hard from standing starts and on several different days and dealerships. No where near the seat-in-the-pants feel of Duramax torque. Although it isn't apples to apples - the Duramax power isn't instant - you have to roll into the pedal and get that turbo spooling - then watch out............

As for maintenance - the 6.2L holds 8qts of oil, darn near the 10qts of the Duramax. You do have a diesel fuel filter that needs changing at least every 2 years. And 11 grease zerks on the front end that can be a bear to get too - but so would a 2500 gas burner....... And two batteries........

But to trade off your rig now is certainly a big loss. Good looking rig! My vote is keep it at least 10 years...........

Do what you want, to me that sounds like a horrible idea. Unless you just want to stroke the ego with a 3/4 ton diesel that won't get used; I would utilize that money for retirement or other toys...

If you have to ask a bunch of strangers on the Internet on if it's a good idea to make perhaps the second biggest financial decision in your life, you know the answer if it's a good idea or bad.

t2016 Sierra SLT with 6.2L. 7000+ miles cross country pulling about 7500 lb TT. Through the Rockies high desert and some hot days...she was a beast. The 8 speed tranny works great with the 6.2L .

I'd keep what you've got, continue to pay it off and then you can start avidly saving for when you need a new truck. Then opt for the largest gas engine available at that time for the 1500 series (assuming you stick with GM for your next truck). Instead of trading in a current model for a slightly aesthetically upgraded version with the same mechanical components.

This guy is right. Sounds like New Truck Fever is taking over. Take a deep breath, man.

Chris your truck is very nice as it sits and recommend you keep her. I nearly traded my truck at end of year for a new Silverado LTZ Z71 6.2 just because I like that front end better. In the end it didn't happen. Reflecting back, glad I kept the AT because my payments weren't reset back to 0 after 20 months. Also put on the leveling kit, Bilstein 5100's and Toyo's truck looks awesome now. If you are bored throw a Supercharger or other mods on. Shucks just getting different wheels will give the truck a new look.

New Truck Fever is quite a struggle though. I'm constantly thinking of how nice it would be to upgrade to a crew cab. But at the same time, my truck is fully functional as we don't have kids yet. I can go a whole month, sometimes two months, before somebody gets in the back seat. I hope to have my truck paid off and able to use all the "equity" to put towards a crew cab at that time, but if it's not paid off yet I may just have to bite the bullet at that time.
