Does tow/haul button = max towing cap.

My truck has the tow haul button on the shifter, haven't checked the sticker on the door frame yet, and randomly wondered if that was a accurate giveaway.

depending on the weight your pulling its helpful

tow haul= it holds each gear longer, offers engine brake i noticed that when braking when it hits 3k on a downshift and it helps. its not as good as an exhaust brake on a diesel pickup but it helps us. i havent pulled anything with the chevy yet, but i did try it though. i prefer manual mode though

hopefully this helps out.

your max pulling weight depends on many of factors of how the truck is setup.

Let me rephrase the question.

I think the max towing capacity is around 12,000 lbs. if I have the tow/haul button does that mean I have the heaviest capability truck?

No tow/haul will prob be in all the trucks now, just a different "transmission tune" that is designed to optimize the driving experience while loaded or towing a trailer

I see the op was answered thoroughly. I was just wondering if there are little ways you can tell if a 14 and up silverado has max tow? Does the rear end look different or maybe are there any visual clues?

The rear end will be a 9.76" diff instead of a 9.5" (hardly noticeable). You need to have the NHT RPO code in your glovebox in order to have the absolute max tow capacity of the 1500's

So in short, no the tow haul button does not mean you have the max towing weight like advertised on TV. It's all about your gearing and suspension in these trucks. Every truck GM makes now has a tow/haul button, it just helps hold gears longer so when you shift you're rpm's are closer to max power so it's not bogged down

max tow should come with a 3.73/3.42 rear end, depending on engine and transmission, tow mirrors and extra oil/transmission coolers. tow/haul holds gears longer and has a much firmer shift so you don have any lag between gear changes. it used to be a GM exclusive, but now everyone has because the patent has been around long enough to be used by all manufactures.

Read your owners manual and look at the window sticker and RPO codes to see which options you have to correlate to the tow capacities in the manual.
