Help anyone!!  A problem with my 2016 Canyon purchased new June 2016 (15000 mi).

Thursday(12/21) a.m. I drove to grocery, picked up a few items and returned. Normal right?

Yesterday tried to start vehicle, dead clicks.  Got battery charger out on start and it started fine.  Drove around for 1 1/2 hours normal local driving.  Stopped at restaurant and turned off truck.

20 minutes later, truck battery is dead.  Called for help, jump started, and returned home.

Put on trickle battery charger over night and tried to start again this morning---dead again. Same as yesterday.

This time I noticed on info screen a Status message : "Waiting for Update Media"   (I am including a photo)

Anyone experience this issue?

Can't believe a battery is dead after only a year one-half.  I have appointment at dealer ship next Wednesday....(of course it's the Holidays!!!)

Thanks for any help.

Dennis

Check your owners manual for your GM roadside assistance contract, I believe you will be covered so if you need to go anywhere in your Canyon before next Wednesday go for it and if you end up with a dead battery somewhere let GM pay for your jump start. 2 or 3 of those assistance calls and I bet your dealer and GM will be following all over themselves to get you fixed up with a new battery or whatever it takes to make your Canyon whole again.

Hey Dennis,

I had the same issue over the summer with my 16' v6. If you have the gas motor like me you'll find the battery is pitifully small. Mine was something like 560cca.

I didn't even bother with the dealer and ponied up for a battery spec'd for the diesal. It was closer to 1000cca.

No clue on the infotainment though...

Probably just a bad battery. My wife's truck (2015 Ford) had a warranty replacement battery installed by the dealer.. The electronics are very sensitive to dead batteries and it messed up something in the BCM on the Ford. The dealer replaced the BCM and had to reprogram keys etc etc last time the battery went bad. I guess when the warranty runs out I will invest in a better battery myself, no telling what a replacement BCM costs out of warranty much less the reprogramming.  Ain't technology GREAT?

Bad battery.

My friends 15 Silverado less than 2 years—same problem.

My 15 Silverado that just hit 2 years did same thing to me last week. Had to buy new battery.

Guy in a 16 Silverado at a UPS store had same problem. Bad battery; he had his working bringing one since it was company truck.

It seems like GM has bad batteries in some vehicles. I am out of my bumper warranty so it isn’t cover. Which is fine.

I had one go out on my truck at 1.5 yrs (ram).  Anyway, I changed the headlights to not stay on and those type of things that use battery power after it's shut off.  I just figured the more drain that was going on with the battery the more chance for failure again.  It was no charge under the 3-36 from them as well. It's still in my garage as the 18 HD is on order.
