6.0 manual shifting

theres a big advantage in having a manual trans over an auto. if you go on a trip it doesn't dowmshift on every single little hill. you control the downshift. any body that drives where its hilly will attest to the amount of downshifting. especially when the trans starts searching . with a stick you never have to listen to 5000 rpm and shifting up and down, driving you crazy. manual mode just selects top gear. nothing else, it will downshift two gears easily. It doesn't sound like manual mode at all. why cant we control whats going on  in our own  truck  that we shelled out $50000 plus. do you all want self driving trucks.if you want to own an hd pickup, you should you should learn to drive and back it up. don't rely on gm or ford or dodge to do it for you, the engineers have no idea  what drivings about. they only care about there job. not americans. they should make them work on a truck before releasing it. they would be much simpler. bring back the manual trans!

I agree that a manual trans should be an option. However like you have said! Most dont know how to drive one anymore.. LOL. And like 1 post above. They did not sell enough of them any more.  And if you drive a Gas engine HD truck with what is still the equivalent of a small block sized engine.  While towing you are going to have to listen to it around 4500rpm if under heavy load and hills. This is where its designed to work and this has not changed since the inception of the small block chevy.

Should manual mode enable you to lock into any gear of choice? Yes as long as you are not locking into overdrive gears that are only there for light duty and fuel efficiency. And Or once you reach max engine RPM the trans is forced to shift!!

I live In B.C Canada. And have some of the largest grades and most amount of hills compared to most of the domestic world. And while fully loaded- Not max payload but loaded down the truck and trans works fantastic.  If your loaded heavy and pulling a 8-10% grade- you wont have to worry about the trans shifting much. As you will be into 2ond or 3rd gear at peak torque rpm 4500rpm + and that will be all you can hold. No sense revving to the limiter to pick up another gear and then letting it drop right back to the rpm again. Pick the right gear. Right Rpm and let it hold that speed. Thats what it is supposed to do.

Small block = Rpm in order to tow a load.

Unloaded with a six or 8 speed. Its going to shift. hence more gears more shifting.

Old 3 speed probably on average would only shift once or twice.

My apologies.  I got on a rant again. LMAO.   Peace. :)

    • Are you going to take long trips in it?  If so, try out the seats in the various trims. For me the lower trim level seats were not comfortable.
    • I have a 2016 that I bought new and still own. I'm around 129,000 miles now. The biggest problem was a transmission failure about 2 years ago around 95000 miles. No warning, just failed while driving down a back road. A reman GM transmission installed and it's been fine ever since. A few other minor problems along the way. I am in no hurry to replace it. It's been paid off long ago and do plan on driving this as long as I can.   I will admit I am leery about all the additional electronics in the newer models and feel that it is just more potential problems. I think there's actually more than I would have wanted in this 2016 but so far so good. I think even if something major like lifter failure happened, it would still be cheaper to at worst, drop a new engine in than buy a new vehicle.
    • I’ve own several successful businesses. I’ve bought homes and lived in different states. I’d witness several generations buy homes and survive in different economic circumstances. You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
    • Good question, I don't remember for sure but I believe it was the HD. I will check and get back to you.
    • Point of the post sir was that while both wages and cost are rising EVERYWHERE; the cost is rising faster EVERYWHERE than the ability to buy EVERYWHERE.
