Installed Westin pro traxx 5 side steps. Sort of regretting it. Didn't realize it would sit so low to the ground. It's only 6 3/4 inches off the ground. If I had known how low they were I would've gotten something else.

Debating if I should swap out the tail lights to either LED bulbs or an LED smoked out unit.

Today I put a Fox suspension under my truck.  Fox 2.0 coil overs up front set at 2 inches of lift at fox 2.0 shocks in the rear with Supreme suspensions 2-inch blocks.  I also put on the black Trail Boss style wheels and Goodyear Ultraterrain AT tires.  I almost forgot we changed out the OEM chrome running boards for these black ones.  I had already done the blacked-out badging, Borla touring catback, and an S&B cold air intake.  My truck is a 2022 refresh RST 6.2 I bought it new in January.Foxlift2.thumb.jpg.e7425bde6a851c31d2be9bd86edc4324.jpg

Where did you get the black badging? Love the before and after pics. Truck looks awesome!

Hello all.  So, my ‘20 trail boss got a new front differential cover this afternoon. I have the 8.25” front differential, supplier SU5 (AAM).

sorry, the above picture is upside down…I was laying on my back in the driveway and thought about it last second.

No, it doesn’t leak.

I started with a factory cover from GMPartsDirect.com, and ordered a 1/2” NPT Allstar Performance weld-in steel drain plug and bung on Amazon.

my brother works with a welder (professional, welded at Dominion Energy for 30 years), and they MIG welded it from the inside.

after I got it home, it was time to tap out the bung a little more to get the plug to sink into the bung a little further and be flush on the outside. At its current location, the neodymium magnet clears the ring gear by 1/4”. I fastened the magnet to the drain plug with Loctite 638 retaining compound.

if it weren’t for the three top bolts being next to impossible to remove, it would have gotten done much quicker than the 3 hours it took me. I used 1.57 quarts of LucasOil Synthetic, 80w-90 gear oil (red and black bottle). Torqued the fasteners in a cross-cross pattern to 18 ft.-lbs. like the service manual calls for. After bolting the skid plate back on, I’m on to the next project.

Thank you, Mshawn. I can’t take all the credit. It’s not all my doing. I just installed the cover, adhered the magnet to the drain plug, and tapped the bung for the plug to go in deeper. Just as a bit of info I’ve discovered, I believe all the trail bosses between ‘19 and ‘21.5 have the same front differential.

So, here lately, I’ve added RoadActive Suspension, Powerstop z36 Extreme carbon ceramic pads and drilled/slotted rotors, and the Hellwig 1.125” rear sway bar. After the dual exhaust, these were the last things on my list to improve performance on my 4.3 Custom Trail Boss for towing my grandfather’s enclosed trailer and flat track Triumph TR6 to the track in the spring and summer. It rides really nice because of the Baja Boss A/T’s minimal road noise and the Bilstein 5100 shocks and struts….the engine sounds fantastic with a flow master Super 44 and 2.5” pipes singing from the back, paired with a K&N air intake (modified from a V8 application), and the interior is extremely comfortable, yet sporty with the leather and carbon fiber trim….paired with a storage console and high country instrument cluster and dash, I have no doubt that this truck is now truly a “Custom” Trail Boss. I love it.

Got my response lights installed on my 2024. This is for the volunteer fire department in Indiana I am on.

The front windshield is Feniex Fusion-2X duals, the grill is Feniex Quad and the rear window is a FireWire rear window strip. All are wired back to the 12v outlet switch from one of the Fusion-S lights. It will allow the pattern and color change.

I'm debating on doing a strip light on the lower lip of each rocker panel. I do hope that the Speed Turtle will be updated for the Global B architecture in the 2022+ trucks.

Yesterday I pulled my front seats and did some radio installation/relocation.  My truck's driver seat is powered by the passenger seat is manual.  I originally had my CB and GMRS radios mounted under my passenger seat.  I needed to get my ham radio installed, but the bracket and motor for the power seat were taking up precious real estate.  I swapped the CB radio to the drivers seat because it's substantially smaller than the Ham and GMRS radios.  I then mounted the ham radio to the passenger seat.  After routing and cleaning up the wiring with loom and zip ties I put everything back together.  Now all my radios are installed and functional.

Today I pulled my passenger side molle panel from Valhalla Offroad.  I have 2 1.75 gallon water bottles and a 5# fire extinguisher mounted on the molle panel.  The fire extinguisher is mounted with 2 Super Quick Fists above the wheel well.  The vehicle's vibrations have caused the fire extinguisher to move towards the front of the truck and come out of one of its quick fists.  I recently purchased a tall cabinet for sitting things in the garage and it came with an L bracket to connect the cabinet to the wall to prevent tipping over.  I mounted that L bracket to the molle panel in a way to stop the fire extinguisher from sliding out of its quick fist.

Tomorrow I'm going to remove the drivers side molle panel and start installing an ARB twin air compressor with a 1 gallon tank and air hose.  This might take a few days, so it'll be a bit before I post up about it again.

I recently installed a TruXedo Sentry CT tonneau cover and a set of Westin Pro Traxx 5" oval steps. Install on both was really easy.  So far I really like the Sentry CT but I'm fighting a small water leak that might not be from the cover. I'm still on the fence about the Pro Traxx steps. The look good but I'm still used to the factory steps my 2011 2500HD had that were wider.

It doesn't look any different from the pics I posted in August, but here you go.

Time for the next project.  Working on the Vallhalla Offroad molle panel I have on the drivers side of the truck bed.  I'm installing an ARB air compressor with 1 gallon tank, and mounting the switch on the panel too.  This is day 1.  I'm not certain about the orientation of the air tank.  The gas can is 1.75 gallons.  I always have 2 of them located in the spot you see the 1 in the pic.  The location of the air compressor is where it'll be permanently.

    • What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.
    • People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.
    • Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.
