I had mine done last week. A light rain yesterday. No leaks. I know it wasn't a true test. Heavy rain tomorrow. They did a pretty neat job. No sign they even did anything except the smell. I've had the windows open weather permitting to air it out. Like others have said. I will never trust it, and will constantly be checking it after every rain and car wash.

Mine didn’t even smell when it was done, now that I think of it. Maybe just a little bit.

Raining steady here, with off and on downpours. Good test so soon for the work they did on it just 48 hours ago. ??

Didn’t receive my callback in the 24hrs they had promised so I called and spoke with a lady that sounded like she was from the Pacific Islands area that told me I have a scheduled call back for 2:35 on Monday. At this point I’m of the belief that the customer service people are just there to answer the phone and absorb any questions and not actually answer anything. Two calls ago they offered compensation for missing most of deer season, most of fall fishing, and everything else I can’t do in a loaner vehicle but she never said what the compensation would be and I’d bet she can’t make any deals like that anyhow and if she can I don’t want a $100 GM accessory I want the truck back and to not leak.I’m tired of being lied to. My dealership has told be they have never talked to the lady whom my claim has been given. I ve given them her number and extension and 5hey have tried and they can’t contact her.  Has anyone got any contacts for North Carolina regional service or an email for someone higher up at GM that can actually find out what the heck is going on?

My experience with customer service was a joke.  I would say something and they would essentially just parrot back what I had just said.  Didn’t offer to fix or do anything at all.  I quickly gave up on that being a route of remedying the situation.

As I said before don't bother with the 1800people. Talk to service manager and tell him or her you want to speak directly with the regional service manager. They are the ones that can hand out extended warranty, service contracts, Chevy accessories credits, and submit bfir buy backs. Anything else is a wast of your time. Also GM has a quiet not very well advertised policy that if you are out of your truck for i believe 24 days or more they will pay your truck payment for the month too! You just have to ask

I find that extremely hard to believe you have a new window.  Maybe they sealed it.

They definitely installed a new window, will see how this one holds up

I paid in full. Maybe they can pay me rent on it.  I’m going to call the dealership service manager on Monday and see if I can get in contact with the regional manager

I don’t understand how you can get a window in one day and I’ve been waiting in my window since November 30?

got some good GM connections?

Seriously the best advice I’ve seen on this thread.  Go to the regional service rep / sales manager ASAP if you want anything done.  Everyone else will do their best to stall and give you the run around.

It was a week, not one day.

2019 Trail Boss LT here.

Rear window leak located in GA area.

The updated Feb 2019 TSB still says the same as the previous pages regarding GM fixing your cracked window frame with $12 silicone caulk.

The window assembly replacements https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts/gm-sliding-glass-84569182 can be purchased for under 300 bucks.

Speak with your service manager, district rep, or dealership owner and demand to have a new assembly installed and anything damaged by water should be cleaned or replaced if necessary. Those headliners run about 900 bucks a pop. So, essentially GM is shooting themselves in the foot by cheaping out the first go around and not actually fixing the problems.

Service bulletin 18-NA-383 https://static.oemdtc.com/TSB/MC-10156903-9999.pdf

I opened a case 5 days ago on GM chat support for paperwork purposes if they want to play games. But I have the dealer owner's phone number, the service manager's number, and the district rep's phone number.

You tell these people to replace the back window glass and fix subsequent damage caused by their manufacturer defect until you're satisfied.

Keep logs of every call, every report, every conversation in the event you're in a situation you may need to lemon law or negotiate a buy back.

Wish you all the best and I'll keep you updated. Currently have my vehicle under the shelter to mitigate damage but my entire backseat has been soaked before from this. And what's funny is there are numerous of these vehicles well into the newer builds 2020 Denalis and 2020 silverados that are sitting on the lots being damaged right now that these crooks are selling to customers without fixing or disclosing. This is near grounds for a class action lawsuit. Several of my dealer connects have told me they have more than 5+ trucks at any given time per week fixing these issues so this isn't remedied and isn't limited to just 10/2018 production date vehicles. This is an ongoing problem that hasn't been fixed. Obviously issuing a recall would be far too costly for GM which is why it's not known to the general consumers.

I have begun speaking with a firm about this already.

There is an old saying. The only party that wins class action lawsuits are the lawyers.

I have a friend who is a "journalist" that covers an industry similar to automotive. He is paid to fly to conferences by the companies to cover their new product launches etc. By default I think you are not inclined to say anything bad about the hand that feeds you. If Auto is similar there are not any journalists or blog or magazine writers out there saying "hey GM really effed up their best selling most profitable truck". The problem here is you don't see any auto industry media attention to this problem so you are left with forums and Facebook which don't outweigh the huge marketing power of GM to sell defective trucks. Since this really isn't a safety issue unless you count electrical fire, GM has no incentive to fix this right, only cheap as possible. Maybe getting the lawyers involved would get their attention.

Will be interesting to hear if / when a class action gets started.  I doubt it would help those who have already had to go through the leak process.  Keep us updated as I am currently going through a similar process as Shamrock

I had purchased mine in March and only been driving to work (4.5 miles each way) so I didn't ever see, November 11th we went to the In-laws and it was raining, My 10 year old says I'm getting wet, It was scheduled for its first oil change on the 26th, said they would need to keep it for about a week, I told them I would need a loaner can't be without wheels for a week, so I had to wait almost 1 month, they called, I dropped mine off and pick up a 2019 Z71, last night we are coming back again from my in-laws, we stop to get gas and my 4 year old daughter Mom! this truck leaks in the same place as daddy's truck!

    • I've been eyeing an upgrade to my tonneau cover for a bit now.  Intrigued by the BAK MX4 EZ-Lift with the torsion spring and went for the upgrade.  Thoughts and musings during unpacking, install and a few days of usage.   Once my order went into Realtruck, it took about 4 days to ship.  Unfortunately, FedEx Ground destroyed the box and contents and it was unusable upon receipt.  To Realtruck's credit, one email with pictures and an RMA was sent to me to send the first one back, and another unit was shipped out.  It arrived 3 days later, unscathed.   I opened the box and it looked like every other BAK MX4.   Biggest differences are the rails and retaining clamps, and of course the spring attached to the cover itself.     NOTE - if you are upgrading from a MX4 to the EZ-Lift, you will have to replace the rails.  The EZ-Lift rails have a notch cut in them to allow the new style retaining clamps to fit properly.  The new retaining clamps also have 2 knobs/carriage bolts and there are two tracks underneath the front panel. The strap clips are mildly different (more like the Undercover Flex clamps) in that the screws go in from the underside.  Personally I prefer these over the BAK clamps that use the nutserts that are a nuisance to install.  The remainder of the parts in the box (drain tubes, rail clamps, and bumper pads) are standard issue BAK.     I did not replace my front bed seal at the time because it seemed to be in decent shape.   BAK recommends shims on the GM trucks unless you place the clamps on the flanges about 1/3 of the way in from both the front and rear of the bed.  I shimmed the front and the middle, and initially placed the clamps equidistant.  This also turned out to be a mistake, because when I set the cover in place, the new style retaining clamps wouldn't clear the front clamp.   New style clamp inserted in the track:     And the issue which occurred because the front rail clamp was too far forward:     Once I removed the shim from the front of the bed, and slid the clamp back to the front flange, everything cleared fine.     The cover set on the rails without issue and I installed the strap clamps.  After I completed my adjustments, I pulled the pin to activate the torsion spring.  Mistake #3 on my part.  PULL THE PIN AS THE VERY VERY VERY LAST STEP!  The reason is, once you pull the pin, the torsion spring is activated.  If you have to loosen the front clamps and adjust the cover, the front panel will - by virtue of the spring, refuse to lay down.  The only way to get it to lay down so you can reinstall and tighten the clamps is to fully open the panel against the back of the cab, which will then allow the front panel of the cover to lay down and be tightened.  Not a big deal unless you haven't installed the foam pads yet (typically the last step) because minus the foam pads, you will need to place something between the frame of the cover and the back window so it doesn't get scratched.  The next time I install one I will install the foam pads before I pull the pin and activate the spring.   After using it for a few days:   The spring assist is great.  You literally can open it with one hand.  My shoulders aren't getting any younger and this was part of my motivation to swap out. The second panel latches and unlatches itself as you open and close the cover.  Neat in concept, however it took me a minute to get used to closing the cover and not hearing the "latching" sound that would tell me it was locked in place. The paddle handles are a huge upgrade and I wouldn't be surprised to see them become the standard across the Realtruck line.  They effectively eliminate the concern that a thief could coat hanger the cover open and get to the contents in the bed. I'm not sure why the very front panel on my cover has a different finish from the other 3 panels.  I have a request into Realtruck to find out if mine was not manufactured properly or if it was by design.   All in all I'm pleased.  Same level of protection, looks good, keeps stuff mostly dry (they all leak around the tailgate) and easy to install.
