It’s not like it runs all of the time if it’s not needed, and it’s not only temperature based.

Auto Rear Defog

This setting automatically turns the rear defogger on based on temperature and humidity conditions.

Doesn’t really matter though. If it’s a 2019, that window is gonna leak either way. It’s the closest thing I’ve seen to a 100% guaranteed problem. 2020s ain’t looking much better either.

Wait you were able to check temps of the “cycle” of the defroster when it was hot out but you’re saying it doesn’t come on when it’s hot out? So you manually turned it on for this test you did?

Just wondering. I don’t really care what people do with their trucks and I’ll keep doing what I do. I’m not trying to argue that you MUST turn the remote start defroster off. I’m just saying it’s what I do. Maybe one day I’ll do the same test you did, just for fun.

And yes mine is a 2019 so I’m patiently waiting for my turn to get on this list.

Yeah, I had to manually turn it on. It’s not like I look every time I drive, but really don’t recall seeing the rear defroster turn itself on in the summer, especially on a bright sunny day where there wouldn’t necessarily be much humidity in the cabin.

At any rate, even in a worst case scenario like my test, you are not talking a huge temperature difference, or a rapid temperature change. Using the defroster as needed in winter would introduce a much bigger and faster temperature change than it being used in the summer.

So I was washing my 19 TB that was made in Indiana and found that my rear window is leaking a small amount. Just a drip or two on the inner back window on the passenger side.
would you guys recommend just watching it for now since it is minimal? I have 2 years left on the warranty. Thoughts?

It's probably only going to get worse. You also don't want the water to accumulate, damage the headliner and potentially have mold build up. I would get it checked out and if the dealership is willing to change out the glass completely then might as well get it done. From what others are reporting, the full glass replacement seems to be the only real solution.

I had my glass replacement done a few days ago. We've had some really bad storms up here in Edmonton lately and *knock on wood* its been bone dry.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted!

Yes, get it fixed. I had good luck with the dealer and tech I use. They used the sealant and it has held up fine and not had a leak since on my 19' Sierra. If they know what they are doing you do not have to have the whole thing replaced. I've already heard of people that have had the same issues with replacement glass doing the same, plastic cracking just like the originals. Still having to add sealant to them also, so go figure. If the tech knows how to put on a good bead of sealant, it should cure the problem. Can't believe some of the stories I've heard on here about some of these dealers service practices. Good service dept/tech can fix this right the first time, but obviously there are some questionable ones out there that don't know how to do their jobs. I would have done it myself if it had been out of warranty, not a difficult job. Still, a new truck should not be leaking water though, just a bad design that I had hoped would be fixed going forward. Still love the truck though.

I just washed my 2019 and it was bone dry inside.  I sprayed plenty of water from all angles to see if I could get it to leak.  Nothing.  It's just like my Jeep Wrangler.  Lots of people complain about leaking where the freedom panels sit, but I can't ever get mine to leak.

I got my rear window leak repaired a couple weeks ago by having the roof spoiler removed and resealed. So far after one truck wash and one rain storm, no leaks.

Fingers crossed.

Looks like the FUYAO E2 model (older glass model) based on the shape of the plastic above the drip.

My 2019 sat in the driveway for weeks during the covid debacle and the window leaked during that time without me knowing. A month ago I took it for state inspection and noticed a very strong musty smell, the jack under the seat was rusted,  the tool bag was covered in mold,  there was fungus growing in the carpet passenger side rear and the passenger front floor was flooded. It has been at the dealership for the last nearly month and I got a call this morning that it was ready. They tried sealing the spoiler per the bulletin to no avail so they replaced the back window. When I went to get it today I was nearly floored at the smell when I opened the door,  they told me that they cleaned the carpet,  I told them that I wanted it all torn out and replaced,  can't wait to hear that story. Needless to say,  still waiting for my 50K truck
