#PIT5634: SES MIL / Service Brake System / Hard Brake Pedal / Speed Limited With DTC P0606 - (Oct 1, 2018)

Some customers may comment on a SES MIL, Service Brake System, Speed Limited message and/or a lack of brake assist causing a hard brake pedal.  When checking for DTC's there will be a P0606 set in the K160 Brake System Control Module and a P25A2 set in the ECM.

The EBCM incorrectly sets DTC P0606 indicating a Control Module Processor Performance error, when the root cause is a low voltage condition with the vehicles electrical system.  If the SI diagnostics are followed for DTC P0606 it can lead to a misdiagnosis and an incorrect repair.

Before performing any reprogramming events or replacing any parts, perform the following checks:

  • Check both the positive and negative battery cable clamps and make sure they are fully installed on to the battery post and properly tightened. The negative battery cable clamp nut torque is 4.5 Nm (40 lb in) and positive cable clamp nut torque is 14 Nm (124 lb in).
  • Note: Make sure the battery cable clamps do not slide up the battery post while tightening the clamp nuts

  • If the positive and negative battery cables are fully installed and tightened, grasp each battery cable near the battery post and make sure they are secure and that they do not spin on the post.
  • Inspect for any loose or poor connections at the X50D Battery Fuse Block.
  • Test the battery using the GR8.
  • Inspect the EBCM ground connections G110 and G114, which are located on the Left Engine Compartment Structure Rail.
  • If no issues are found, then follow SI Diagnostic Information and Procedures for DTC P0562 System Voltage Low.

Note: Engineering is trying to determine next steps in the resolution of this issue. It will likely be an update to SI or a change to the EBCM Calibration or both.

Are these new trucks susceptible to virus/trojan attacks through the software or computer?

With the modern technology today, I am surprised it does not happen more often.

Hackers could wreak havoc on vehicles as easy as computers and mobile devices.

Perhaps, but for what benefit?  For making money, stealing identities/credit cards is easier and pays better.

Trying to harm/murder specific individuals or random drivers on the road is pretty psychotic, and going after larger numbers of drivers on the road is terrorism.

For either case in America guns are cheaper and easier.  We see that every day.

Any news?

No, I just finally got a rental car yesterday. They are supposed to be fully working on it Monday, and there is also two recalls that need done. It has been frustrating to be honest.

Please update with what they find.  Hopefully it will be quick and painless for you.

Update: So, I finally got my truck back yesterday. There was two recalls performed on my High Country while they had my truck. One was for the electronic cluster. Since the end of December GM put a bulletin out for Chevy High Country, GMC Denali, and equipped LTZ Silverados with the full digital cluster. I actually had this happen but the dash, would shut off for a few seconds then come back on like nothing happened. When this happened also none of the steering wheel controls would work either during that short period of time. This happened a handful of times since I purchased the truck in the middle of October. They have a update that fixes this problem. The other recall was something to do with the electronic parking brake. I will have to get the slip to look at this. As for the main reason for taking the truck in, none of the lights on the dash, or the DIC were on when the tech was diagnosing the truck. The service writer did also notice this when he pulled the truck in compared to last week. I am actually not the first person to have this happen with their truck. GM is aware of this problem, but they currently do no have a fix is what I was told. With the bulletin they did have the technician check all the connections with the truck, fuse box, and also inspected the battery itself, and also the terminals. They are hoping the flash has something to do with this, but I was told by the service writer if this happens again they do not currently have a fix for the problem GM is still investigating this issue. So this is something I will have to monitor. After I did pick up the truck yesterday I did have to take it for about a hour 1/2 drive to a shop where I am having clear bra installed and ceramic coating done to the truck. Nothing arose with truck. I am truly hoping whatever is was is fixed, or just a random glitch.

I know this is off topic, but how much are you paying to have the ceramic coating applied to the whole truck? I've thought about doing this once I get mine.

Ceramic Coating pricing depends how much paint correction the shop does and what product is used, can be 600.00 to 2000.00. My HC was 1000.00 for 7 years warranty.

I just got quoted for my 2019 CC standard bed for paint correction and at CQuartz Professional Ceramic Coating to include the wheels $2,750.  He is booked until June if I wanted to get mine done.  He is really good and as you can tell very busy, just a one guy shop.

CQuartz is a good product. Your vehicle will look nice. It is a bummer that you have to wait until June.

Well not a post I wanted to make, but here it goes. I'm in Pennsylvania, so it is cold here. I remote started the truck before getting into to head to work this morning. When I hoped in and pressed the push start I was greeted with all kinds of good things. The dash had the check engine light, abs light, and the traction control light was on. In the DIC I was receiving multiple messages including; Service Trailer Brake System, Steering Assist Is Reduced Drive With Care, Service ESC, and the big one Brake System Failure 62 MPH Top Speed. I quickly pressed the OnStar button to have them run a diag. These is what OnStar said: An issue with the Antilock Braking System in your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado has been detected. Please service your vehicle within 7 days. P25A2  The Engine and Transmission System is not performing as expected. An issue has been detected in the Engine Electrical System, including the Charging and Starting System that monitors and controls the engine starting system and 12V battery charging system. If the charge system light stays on, or comes on while driving, there may be a problem with the electrical charging system. Driving while this light is on could drain the battery. If a short distance must be driven with the light on, be sure to turn off all accessories, such as the radio and air conditioner. I had no brakes with vehicle it seem like when I tried to back the truck up. I shut the truck off. Turned it back on. All the lights stayed on. I shut the truck off again and turned it back all the lights then went off, but the check engine light. I then attempted to move truck and had brakes. In the meantime OnStar contacted Roadside to setup tow. They did not want me to drive truck. Now the truck is at dealership, and I am being told they probably can not get truck in until Monday, and no loaners are available, and if they can get a rental Chevy will only cover for two days.

Well I’ve now had my High Country for about 4 hours and just got all of thee same warnings, I have 22 miles on this truck! Wow

I had the same P25A2 error as well as a C0021 for the antilock braking system.

It all depends on the shop and the type of coating you use. I am going through Prestige Auto Armor. They do many high-end vehicles. I actually used them in the past for my other vehicle. They will do a full paint correction. Then I am actually getting the entire truck done including the wheels, and all the glass. They are using CQuartz Finest Reserve. My truck is black, so I wanted to get the best gloss and finish. Only certain shops are allowed to install this if they have certain criteria and certifications. I am paying $1,895 to have this done. I could have used cheaper coatings as well.

Did the Chevrolet Dealership that you bought the truck from perform the recalls before you took delivery of the truck? I do know so far the recalls have been vin specific. Also, I am curious to know if you lost any of your braking when the lights came on? I know after I restarted the truck a few times all the lights went off, and the truck seemed to be working totally fine. The service department was able to pull codes, they did perform the recalls, and made note of the main concern. GM is aware of this, but they are still diagnosing this, and did have techs perform some things in regards to this.
