I stopped by the dealer today to get something out of my truck, and figured I would ask for an update.  They said GM has acknowledged the issue but there is no fix yet.  Apparently there is a software fix ready for the 2020 models but not yet for the 2019 models, so I'm keeping the loaner for the time being.  The servicer person threw out some numbers but I'm fairly certain it was just from left field, and said it could be a week or two.  I wouldn't be surprised if it was much longer than that, but obviously I have no idea either.  Glad that this specific issue is recognized though and that a fix is being worked on.  Sad that so many people are dealing with it.

To AK High Country. Ok, I was rattled, it was a scare. But you are correct and I concede. I would like to continue on the site. Stick to issues. I have a 2013 Chevy volt- perfect since the day I got. And ok the Ridgeline wasn’t a real truck. I hope this makes things a little better.

I didn't see anything wrong with your post. Is total bullshit with what these trucks cost. When they give you a run around it is just totally poor service and as you said bullshit. When you have to restart your truck 5 or 6 times to get the brakes to work if that is not bullshit I don't know what is. Mine has 3600 miles and that is nonsense.

This just happened to me tonight after work. Same exact thing on my 2019 LT All Star edition!  I have 539 miles on this vehicle and I had the brake recall done last week. Tonight I could barely stop the truck!  It’s going to the dealer Thursday morning. I’m pissed like all you guys, it’s just wrong!

This is not good news, when I picked mine up on Monday the service department informed me that GM techs instructed that the issue was due to battery drain during the software load recharging the battery would correct the problem.  I was and still am skeptical of that since driving the vehicle would essentially charge the battery.  I guess we are all still in holding pattern waiting on GM.  Very frustrating, especially with something so critical as your brakes, kind of need them!

No, it's not good news. At all. Listen, another blogger got mad at me (AK High Country) cuz he thought I got on the site to bash Chevy. That's not true, I have nothing against Chevy _ I've owned a 2013 Volt and that ownership has been problem-free. I was just trying to say that my truck careened down my driveway out onto the road (there's a good amount of traffic in front of my house), and an eastbound vehicle had to slam on its brakes to avoid HITTING ME. Thankfully, that eastbound vehicle wasn't another LTZ Silverado with no brakes (haha?). anyway, they (the Chevy dealership) acted like I brought the thing for an oil change, trucks ready, codes cleared, come get it. This is an EXTREMELY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE that does not appear to be taken very seriously by this carmaker. I'll ask and let you ponder- do you thing anybody- from GM, from the dealer, from Chevrolet- anybody ever bothered to follow up on my ordeal to ask if the truck was now operating safely. NO! NO! I feel like I need to write a legal-type letter to document this. who to send that to though....

100% correct. I brought mine in after losing brakes and almost hitting a parked car at the grocery store. Dealer says well... since there are no fault codes we cant do anything. Its like are you ****ing kidding me, my brakes stopped working while the truck was in motion. Does it take a death or 2 for GM to fix this bullshit?

Just drove mine on a 400 mile trip, on the way back the ck engine light came on with the cruise control light. I stopped by the dealer today and it's a brake issue. It was just programmed to the latest program last week when they did the recalls.  They ordered another module.  For now it all works fine, I'll be notified when it comes in.

truck.thumb.jpg.2671d6e04437804b06dd4b247076355b.jpgI had this happen on the way to work at the worst possible time. I had my 18 month old daughter with me taking her to day care when deer ran out in front of me and couldnt stop and had to take to the ditch. Didnt see any damage but when I got in I saw my truck was lit up like a Christmas tree.  It was just in last week for the brake recall too. 2019 TrailBoss LT Had several warnings flashing brake system failure. trailer system failure service esc.

Then to top it off I had to psycho call them  for 20 minutes even after they were open because they hadnt switched the phones over yet. Ive had this thing 2 months and this thread does not inspire hope that its going to be fixed when I leave today.

Do they even have a real fix figured out yet is the big question.

I think that is the $1,000,000.00 question.

No. The Service manager at the dealership told me GM MAY have a software fix available in a few weeks, but that it is not likely they will inform the dealership when that happens, or not right away. So, I asked, if the dealership was informed, would they inform me? The man told me NO, don't expect the dealership to follow up even if they are provided with the solution. He told me YOU NEED to call US.

They turned my truck off and on a couple times and told me that GM says that is the fix for now. I said well what if I am pulling my tractor behind it and this crap happens. Pretty sure I won’t be able to stop with that going on. It sucks because I love this truck but not going to spend the next couple years with my truck losing the brakes.

Well like the rest of you’ve i have now experienced all three phases of this issue.. tonight was the icing on the cake when I fired my truck up to go home from work and it had no brakes. GM will be getting more than an earful from me tomorrow on this major issue.

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices.
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
