sounds like the best thing to do is run it until the engine seizes up.

I already looked into this, the answer is no, they just use their 0w-20 that is dexos1 spec.

Ha ha ... yes indeed. sadly the cab stinks of motor oil. I've got a baking soda based air freshener in there now. I have to check, but I suspect the old oil may have drained past an air intake or something. Might just change out the cabin air filter just in case.

If this is a wide-spread problem, it will become a mandated recall. This is a HUGE safety concern if an oil line lets go at speed (loss of vehicle control, fire, etc).

Break in oil/additives for break-in haven't been used in quite some time.  however- I do suggest replacing the oil and oil filter at about 2000-3000 miles to get the "break-in" shavings and metal out of there, and replace the front and rear diff fluid and transfer case at 15,000 miles.  Tranny flushed at 30,000 miles or sooner.  That is- if you plan on hanging onto the truck for 100,000+ miles.

So sorry this happened to you tool; GMC says no extended warranty unless it happens a number of times.

As I mentioned before it was a huge safety problem for me stuck on the road with no shoulder, on a tight turn, in the cold rain for an hour directing cars coming whilst waiting for the flat bed.

I was actually offered an extended 5mo/15Kmi warranty on my truck and I believe it was the GM rep in charge of my repair that made that offer.  Not great but not nothing either...dealer is still working on buying me out of the truck.

Just thinking out loud here, do you think the new autostop feature could be contributing to the line failures? All those extra starts and sudden pressure spikes?

I'd be surprised if that was the case with mine...the start/stop is disabled at low temperatures so the start stop never even engaged for most of the  4,600 miles that I put on my truck before the line went.

was wondering this...I just hit 4000 miles computer says I'm at 47% oil life! wtf?

That tells me your next oil change should be around 8k , which sounds right to me

my concern is this is my first oil change...8k seems like a lot to me... the post I quoted mentioned changing oil/filter for the 1st time at 2000-3000 so I was Just wondering is all... I called dealer and was told first oil change should be at 20% or 6 months for my truck.

It is a lot.  Unless it is a premium oil filter, you should not be going over 5000 miles on the oil change.  That is why I pick 5000 miles on a full synthetic oil change using a NAPA Gold/WIX Gold filter.  Oil change and tire rotations every 5000 miles.. I think it works out great!!

      The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.

      Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.

      "Life is getting back to normal."    I'm driving again and all new joints are operating as expected for this stage of recovery.   My most recent joint replacement still requires a lot of attention but experience has taught me that time will quiet the remaining pain.  I joked with my surgeon that another joint replacement would take my mind off my most recent surgery and he responded by saying the next will be a hip!  There are no plans for another surgery but, unlike me, I don't think he was joking!  I certainly wouldn't refuse further replacement  if required but hope to spend time out of the "post-op"  period.  I can't stress enough that if you have been recommended for total hip, knee or shoulder replacement that you welcome the offer.  Post-op "recovery" may sound daunting and painful, however, this is far better than the insidious erosion of mobility you are currently experiencing.  Imagine what it would feel like to wake up most mornings feeling better and more mobile than you did the previous day!  Prior to my first surgery in June 2025, even getting out of bed was becoming a formidable task.  Since the day after my first surgery, I get out of bed everyday easily and unassisted.  Making the switch to feeling a little better each day rather than a little worse, is hugely motivating!
