I have an SU4 axle that seems to be preforming correctly. So far 3500 miles and no noises or any other issues. I’ve never had to take it in, it’s been fine since day one.

After examining many SU4 axles and SU5 axles, I’ve determined that the issue is internal to the differential. GM technicians coming out for a look is a waste of time in my opinion. What GM needs to do is take one of these trucks back to the Tech Center in Warren, MI and perform a thorough analysis of the issue.

Many forum members and some dealer Techs think the issue is the stub shaft being too long. Unfortunately, GM hasn’t manufactured a new part to address this yet. GM dealers can only do so much; they replace parts with new ones and that’s it. This is where is would be handy for GM dealers to have a machinist that could modify the part. If all that’s wrong is the stub shaft is 1/16 to 1/8 too long, a machinist could take care of that easily. Otherwise, we will be waiting a while for GM to make a new a new part.

I'll be waiting on the three repair attempts and that's all. After three failed attempts it's time for GM to buy the truck back  via a lemon law claim - these things cost too much to put up with this nonsense.

It seems most of the problem axles on here are silverados, i wonder if most of the su4 axles were sent to chevy and the su5 to gmc.  Does anyone here with a sierra have this problem or su4?

Well i just got my build sheet  sierra build date 6/19 and it has the su4, so there goes that theory.  Cant comment on the noise, just got the truck.

No sure but maybe a ray of hope. My dealer had me bring my truck in Friday and one tech road with me to verify the noise. I left my truck and they gave me a new trail boss for the weekend. I didn't complain about that. Service manager drove it today and heard the noise also. They opened a new claim with GM and they said put a new differential in. They ordered the new parts but who knows when they will get them with the strike going on. The guy in service said the part numbers are all different than the ones they put in for the supposed fix that they did already. Maybe just maybe they have something figured out.

Hello. I have a TB also. Are you having a jingle jingle noise or clicking noise on yours?

Well here goes round four(I think). My shop manager is working with technical assistance on the issue. I’ll let you know how it goes

I've had mine in twice now to two different dealerships for this issue and was told there was nothing wrong even after playing the second dealership (my selling dealer) a clear as day audio recording. They said that they "can't fix it if they can't reproduce the sound". I told them that the truck has to be driven between 50 and 100km before the sound will start but the truck never left the lot. Apparently they are taking it for a long drive tomorrow, I will be resetting the trip when I drop it off to be sure. Very little effort on their part to research the issue, I'm feeling quite frustrated already. I have attached an audio file where you can hear the noise.

hi guys and gals well my truck went back today so the service manager could drive it once again could not believe that it wasnt fixed when they gave it the stub shaft and seals , rings so he heard it again and said that he would talk to gm and see what they wanted him to do  this guy commutes about 50 miles 1 way to work and he said there is no way he would be able to stand that noise so he promises me he will get to the bottom of it might take him a day or 2 to get back to me
