Please let us know how that spring compressor works. I’ve heard that those clam style tools work better/safer than the ones that you can rent at the auto parts store.

Will do

I have rst model and added 2” blocks in the rear. Gonna buy bilsteins since I feel the back shocks are overextended and I hate the ranchos anyway. Which model # do I get?

Got mine in yesterday. LTZ left it at stock ride height because I have 3.0 and am looking for mileage. The shocks are AMAZING!! No more bounce, drives like it should. Highly recommend. It's not that big of a deal the fronts are just struts. Compress the spring and R+R

Did you have to disassemble any of the front components to get the front struts out? Anything that would require an alignment?

End link comes off, no alignment needed. There's a sold youtube on it for a 2019. They're the same.

Thanks. I’ll have to find that video. I’ve been looking on YT but haven’t found anything for the new body style trucks.

It seems that all treads show Bilstein 5100 improves riding quality. Is this only for off-road oriented Silverado with Rancho shocks? Mine is 2019 1500 WT crew cab with OEM "black-colored" shocks and I want to install Bilstein 5100 rear shocks only. 100% pavement driving, never towed anything in my life, and hardest work I've done with my truck is carrying branches to dump after yard work. In this situation, will I notice a huge difference in riding quality or should I stick to the OEM shocks. Thanks.

Improving ride quality is very subject but you're asking good questions. Are you happy with your OEM shocks? I say don't change anything if you don't really notice... but it sounds like you do which is totally acceptable. The Bilstein 4600 may be better suited for your needs than the 5100 b/c it doesn't sound like your truck has any increased height. Supposedly the two shocks are virtually the same anyhow, but 4600 marketed for stock configurations on street. With that said I think the 5100's look 100x better

Like you kind of allude to, your WT OEM shocks are different from the Z71 Rancho shocks which are even different than the Trail Boss/AT4 Rancho shocks. The Z71 Rancho's seem to ride the harshest from what I can tell when compared to the shocks you have as well as the TrailBoss/AT4. Most of the complaints that I'm familiar with come from the "Z71 Ranchos" vs. others so they will see the most "improvement". But that doesn't mean the other shocks can't see increased improvement either.... My suspicion is your current shocks probably have a softer more comfortable feel and changing to the Bilsteins will be a 'firmer, tighter' feel. If that's what you are looking for, could be a good solution... if not, then not.

All that said, I'm not really sure how your shocks ride and None of this really helps you make a decision so in that sense I apologize ?

Thank you so much Duramax3oh for your expertise. In terms of ride quality, I am quite okay with ride compared to prior when I drove 2013 wrangler. However, my wife and kids complain of bouncy ride especially on highway and bumpy roads. Of course, they feel it because Honda Odyssey was traded in for Silverado. I do not want to swap all 4 shocks with aftermarket's. I do not think I will benefit from Bilstein 5100 or even 4600 (other aftermarket shocks) rear only much more than OEM shocks in my 100% stock 1500 WT crew cab with 17-inch wheels. Just wanted to ask to check I was wrong or not. Thank you.

My wife has an Odyssey, and I have a 2019 Silverado... so I know exactly what your wife and kids are complaining about. I really don't think swapping for some Bilsteins will make the ride smoother for them. It's just a truck, so it's not going to ride like the minivan did.

Most owners on here are switching from twin tube (aka non TB/AT4 Z71) Ranchos to Bilsteins mainly to stop the "Caddy bounce" in the front end, and the way the rear shocks respond to harsh bumps at highway speeds (rear end walks away from you, etc.)

The Bilsteins most certainly will "solve" these problems for most Rancho owners, but they do not necessarily make the ride smoother. If anything, the Bilsteins will cause a bit of a harsher ride, but much more steady overall.

Something else you might play around with to see if ride gets better. Add some weight in the bed of the truck (like a few bags of sand or something towards the tailgate, secured down). When the rear is so light as in pickup trucks the ride isn't the best but when "under load" some seems to feel better. That isn't necessarily the cleanest or most sophisticated solution but is a very quick easy cheap short-term fix.
