I believe in God.  I believe He created this Universe.  And many others.  I believe He created life.  I believe He created us.  And I believe He expects us to take care of His creations, including this earth, our bodies, and everything else.  That being said.. I do believe He expects us to use common sense and to learn and grow.  So if we can learn how to take better care of this planet, I believe it is in our best interest.  But taking our time, and doing it smartly.  Not rushing to things.

Taking care of the home he created for us is the assignment he gave us indeed. One that would have been an easy task had we remained perfect. ?  Not so for the imperfect creatures we became.  :(

Electric cars? Here in Texas. Wind farms off line. We get 23 percent of our power from them, frozen. Nuke plants off line. Even with the abundance of natural gas. There isn’t enough because of poor planning. Worry too much about green energy. So here some 1 million plus people without power in central - south Texas. 7 degrees for the low tonight.

Seriously when did you think this was going to happen?

When did you think we were going to move away from oil to electric? In fifty or a hundred years?

That's what they were thinking 50 and 100 years ago.

 

That pipeline that was cancelled. Was it really going to be needed in the next 10 years?

 

Same with cattle, pigs and chickens. Vegetable based meats will be the main thing in 10 years.

It's time to get out of the meat business.

 

Solar and wind power will advance. Batteries will advance.

Tesla Power Walls are already powering homes during emergencies and it won't be long before the entire grid is not needed.

 

Electric cars will become more popular as the technology advances.

This is after all the 21st century.

 

People need to realize that we're going to move forward away from oil before it runs out completely.

We're consuming all kinds of resources. We're on all seven continents. We're causing the overpopulation of dogs and cats, along with cows and pigs. We'll mess up the planet a lot more if we were to give everybody electric cars.

I had a bumper sticker on my car... save the planet, kill yourself.

When the grid goes down, we'll be wishing for gas generators to recharge our cars.

29 million people in the state of Texas and a little snow storm puts the 'grid' flat on it's arse.

Let's plug in 10 million more cars/truck/busses.

Yep, we're ready for all electric transportation.

It's a hard no because the 3500HD won't be going electric. They'll still be has because towing companies use them as tow trucks. Somebody has to save the electric cars that break down on the highway.

Texas isn't built like Montana. Snowbelt states tend to put electrical wires in the ground, deep enough to protect them from the ice. They often use pvc conduit and bury it deep enough to be below the depth of frozen ground during a typical winter weather seasons. This storm is atypical for Texas. Best advice I can Texans right now is to open the cupboard doors under the sink and let your water lines drip. Hot water freezes before cold water because it has less impurities. Good luck you guys. I've dealt with a frozen water line that burst and flooded my house. What a nightmare. Fortunately, it was such a widespread problem at the time that FEMA declared it a natural disaster and that percents my insurance rates from going up.

Last night electricity rolling on for an hour off for on one. Everything rapped and dripping. First night only the cold line to washer froze. Unhook from washer turn on 1/2 hour going again. Last night up every 3 hours run washer. 3 to 6 cold water frozen again. On the very informative news says just drip one and good. Don’t believe it especially at 10 degrees. Funny growing up in New Jersey. I have no recall of dripping or freezing problems.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
