oh oh, another dealer just emailed me with a 21 2lt Trail Boss. Pricing is near the same.  It is 5.3 with 10spd also.  Eeek...

to speak to this point. Would you say a x31 Elevation and a Trail Boss should be close in price?

You're getting a better deal if it's a TB with 2LT trim package. If you like the looks of the TB (best looking Silverados, IMO), and don't mind the extra 2" of truck, I would be all over that TB.

GMC went cheap on the Elevation with the incandescent taillights and turn signals, vs. the LEDs on ALL other GMC models. At least you get LEDs for taillights on the RST.

Sounds like it doesn't matter to the OP,  but

Base sierra, SLE and both versions of elevation get:

-- Headlamps, LED reflector with incandescent turn signals and LED signature Daytime Running Lamps

-- Taillamps, LED tail and stop light, with incandescent reverse light

SLT, AT4 adn Denali get:

-- Headlamps, LED reflector (high intensity) with LED turn signals and LED signature Daytime Running Lamps

-- Taillamps, LED signature taillight, with LED stop and reverse light

I know that’s what the order guide states however I am fairly confident that is an error. The C shaped taillight portion does appear to be LED, but you can see a bulb socket and reflector plainly in the center of the taillight on base/SLE/Elevation trucks. It would have to account for the turn/stop light. Perhaps an owner can confirm?E7A5AFB4-6AB5-4B5C-80A3-447A5589CC87.thumb.jpeg.0be5e358c571b39846b5a9ead39adde2.jpegDC61C9CC-7AF9-4B1B-BEE3-4F8BFCC8E506.thumb.jpeg.00bda4a0d2dd0340aae3c0c34dceaa71.jpegE4586AE6-0D6D-4D13-A256-72FF27C0B0BC.thumb.jpeg.a7aaae74d78c1cc15f9e711c0a88cd77.jpeg

i have an elevation.....think taillights are LED, for sure the reverse lights are incadescent its plain as day.....with the red its harder to tell

what is to confirm, if the bulb is turn signal?

Posted

where that bulb is in red housing is the brake light/turn signal.....the perimeter is LED running lights

That’s a great looking truck!  Only change I would get is color matched gloss fender trim.

i didnt even notice that so i guess its not important to me lol.

Now i need to decide on color. White as shown or i can get satin steel, cardinal red or pacific blue.  The red is nice actually.  Any thoughts?

I have blue, so I'm biased. Go red. Just kidding. Her whatever you think is best, but for the money I'd rather go with the 2LT Trail Boss, even if it is brown.

latest update folks. Crushed that the above red one sold.

White one is still in play but man I fell hard for that red one.

Another dealer reached out today and told me a red one as above is coming but it is 3.0 TD.  I am such a v8 guy but maybe....

Thoughts?

You're opening an entirely new can of worms now, Lol!

The 3.0 fan club gains vibrant members by the day. Personally, I'm going to get a 3.0L when I trade my 2019 5.3L later this year or early next. Very similar driving characteristics, but with a LOT better MPG and torque.

Biggest pill to swallow for me will be losing the rumble of my V8 catback. :(

yeah and I worry about that as pathetic as it might be lol.

Can I ask the forum to explain to me the difference between 1lt and 2lt - i think i owe it to myself to at least consider the Silverado 2lt trailboss I spoke of.

I test drove a Silverado and a Sierra on the weekend. Both 5.3, Chevy with 8spd, GM with 10spd - GM felt alot better on the road - do you think some of that is the 8spd vs the 10spd?  (as info both trucks were z71 equipped)

Trail Boss LT is only available as a 2LT. The difference between a 2LT and 1LT has always been features. The 2LT has more of them. If you look at Chevy's website you'll notice the Trail Boss LT is sandwiched between LT and LTZ. The starting prices reflect that, too.

I've driven both the 8-speed and 10-speed. The difference between the 2 is obvious. What you may have experienced was likely the difference in the transmissions.

As for engines, the 5.3 is no slouch, but the torque of the 3.0 is the same as the 6.2. That torque also peaks sooner. The biggest Dewberry I've heard about the 3.0, and this is why I avoided it and went with the 6.2, is at 150,000 miles the routine maintenance requires the transmission to be pulled. The cost of this routine maintenance is said to be a few thousand dollars. I was not comfortable with this.

    • I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful.  I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps.
    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O.
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
