Interesting, I just got an automatic update on my truck.  Of course I was given the option to install it, but I’m assuming at some point I would have been forced to do the update.  Seems like eventually, the OP would have run into the same problem whether he went to the dealer or not.

GM didn't "steal" it from you, the dealer didn't "steal" it either.  You went in with an issue, the truck was reprogrammed with the latest factory calibrations which means no nav.

The dealer didn't steal it, they threw it in the trashcan.  They should be aware enough to check for non-standard software before replacing everything with the update.

Lol at the people in here who feel the need to tell the OP how they, not the OP, but how THEY have no need for navigation because they use some cheap hack phone app that suits them just fine!🤣 Seriously guys, nobody freaking cares what YOU feel is ok, and how YOU feel this phone app is good enough, when this guy paid for the navigation add on that the dealer over wrote with a software update.

Good grief with people who think like this!

It's not stealing. They didn't I tend to deprive you of anything. It's also not malicious destruction of property. They didn't have malice or intent to damage anything. Had they been made aware of an after market product, maybe thing would've gone differently. It maybe be GM nav but it wasn't added by the dealer or GM. MVI should probably show some good will and help put out this fire, just to save bad publicity against this risk for any new customers. Maybe they're too busy handling similar complaints to get back to you right away? At least show some support for an original customer/owner.

Last week I took my truck to the dealer for its 22,500 mile service, and a few warranty issues.  One of those warranty issues regarded the crooked reverse camera.  While working to correct the crooked reverse camera they did some sort of software update, per GM's instructions.  That update deleted the factory navigation from my truck.

So what's the latest on this?  Did GM or the other company get you going again?

Thank you for the info.  To be clear, my truck is a 2020.  So, the hardware is all there.  Your explanation of the process prior to GM ceasing the program gives me a little hope.  Everything about MY2021 is therefore moot as it relates to my situation.

As for MVI, they didn't swap anything.  I sent them a module from my truck that is located on the passenger side, bottom of dash area, on the far right side behind the glove box.  MVI then performed their magic to add factory nav, and sent it back.  I then reinstalled that module into my truck, inserted the SD card, and voila.  Nothing was swapped out.  I chose to go this route to avoid fighting with XM if I'd swapped that module.  It was the more expensive, and more time consuming, route to go.

You and I will have to agree to disagree on what constitutes theft.  However, my point still stands that they can't claim to be a tech company when they don't behave like one.  For example, how many times have you had a cell phone that's run an OS update and your 3rd party apps suddenly disappeared?  I'm willing to wager that number is 0.  Same here for me.  GM should've known this could've been an issue of their going to be a tech company.  Nonetheless, something was taken from me and I want it back.  I shouldn't be compelled to pay.  That is actually illegal.  I did absolutely nothing wrong.  I own my truck.  It is not a lease.

Well here’s the thing, 3rd party apps aren’t supported by most phones anyway only apps from the App Store are. You changed the radio program, failed to notify them prior to them working in the head unit program and are now pissed off that they uploaded your factory RPO code program to the vehicle. As far as they are concerned it’s correct, your truck did not come with nav and therefore the program with it will not be uploaded. You should’ve said from the beginning that you had changed the software in the head unit and you failed to do so.

Maybe the 3rd party that did the modification can help you, but GM and the dealer shouldn’t lose an money for your modification that isn’t compatible with the factory program that you authorized them to do.

This thread wasn’t the echo chamber he hoped for. Looks like he’s ignoring it.

I guess. I was really hoping to hear what MVI did to help with this.
