I noticed today that my 2021 1500 has at least a dozen paint chips in front of the rear tires on both sides. The section of the panel that flares out. I've only had my truck 3 months. My truck is already wrapped with PPF and ceramic coat. The shop said they could not wrap the panels that have textured paint due to air bubbles forming over time and the ppf doesn't stay on. Does anyone have a solution to this?

Do you have oversizes tires? or rims that stick out? do you drive on a gravel road fast? do you have running boards? All these things factor in.

Truck is 100% stock. Elevation x31. I've driven on a gravel road maybe 3 times since I've owned it.

My 2011 F150 had 34x12 duratracs

on aftermarket wheels. Off road almost every weekend. Not a single chip on the side panels after 12 years of ownership.

My 2021 is the same and I have factory Bridgestone Alenza Tires which are not aggressive.  Its the design with the fender sticking out.   I have factory retractable running boards and I have NEVER driven on any gravel roads but I do drive on winter snow/ice covered and salted and sanded roads.  Only fix is to repaint but that's not cheap..More noticeable on darker colors like black.

Just put fricken ppf on that section. Who cares if it comes off eventually, just reapply. Buy yourself a 1 foot wide roll of it and do it yourself.

Outside of putting on mud flaps, running boards or fender flares that protrude further than the tires, ppf or rhino liner is going to be the only protection you can add .

Check and see if anyone in your area does Xpel brand PPF. The local shop here was able to apply it over that area of my truck and looks great.

Hmm, xpel is what I had done. They said they have tried on other GM trucks with no success. it looked great for a few months and then it peeled/bubbled apparently. I'm considering doing line x there. I have running boards ordered but they are currently out of stock so just waiting. Would that protect the paint?

Has so far on mine. That textured paint on the lower part is really easy to touch up with a paint pen with no more work than an alcohol wipe and a small art brush. Maybe useful until you get your boards.

My installer said he would try to install it over the textured area and if it didn't work he wouldn't charge me for it. He said there is pretty big difference from truck to truck in how rough the texture is and he gets it to work about 1/3 of the time. Might be worth a shot to check around and see if someone will try it. Mine has been on for awhile now and looks as good as when put on.

We are a paint protection film installer in Dallas TX (https://ceramicfx.com). Air bubbles do not over time, this is not true. How will the air get underneath the PPF? PPF is not air permeable. It is also not true that PPF doesn't stick that area. It sticks and does not peel off. If it is not a brand new truck, however, I would thoroughly clean that area with ethanol before installing the film.

Wheel to wheel running boards.

That will help provide some protection behind the front tires but not with the rear. The coating just isn't very strong and most smaller rocks that get stuck in the tire and then flung upwards will chip it off little by little.
