I just changed oil at 11,200 miles a few days ago, still using the reusable filter, still no strange noises and the motor hasn't crapped out yet.

You will enjoy this: A Brief History of Oil Filters - AutoRestorer

This is what was inside an ACDelco filter when I was about 20, yea shredded wood fibers. Steel wool in some others. It was also used as a seat batting.

Shredded Wood Excelsior

Even into the 1960's filters were optional on many models. Of course, oil changes were 500 to 1500 miles.

PSA the Mobil 1 M1-212A filter for these trucks does not meet spec on bypass pressure. It’s 12-15 lbs and should be 22.

Stick with PF63.

while people debate oil filters here on forums, others out there are putting 300,000-400,000 miles+ on their engines without oil/oil filter related failures using whatever the dealer or quick lube places are putting on during oil changes.

Theres lots of information out there now and for me it comes down to getting the best construction I can for the amount of money I am willing to spend. Paying more doesnt always get you more.

Finish it......

300 to 400K for healthy GAS motors well maintained with reasonable OCI's, adequate fluids and adult driven, often with a majority of highway miles......there......

Once a motor is well run in and assuming proper oil selection the only thing that generates enough particles large enough and hard enough to create three body wear is?......"Initiation and propagation" aka, leaving the oil in too long.

In three body wear testing, that debris is ADDED to the oil. They don't wait for it. When 'they' don't tell you that, the results from that study stand in a vacuum and lead to some true but irrelevant conclusions.

Very fine and efficient filters are effective when you are running oil long enough to accumulate enough oxidation/soot debris to actually THICKEN the oil.

Human nature I suppose to look at a topic as if each point of consideration is divorced from every other point of consideration as if IT alone was the singular cause for the observed affect.

AMEN and 'misinformation', disinformation, outright lies and marketing deceptions. It's a minefield.

The PF63E was the old 'E-Core' filter, it has been superceded by the PF63.  The PF63 is improved over the PF63E, but both have the 22 psi relief valve.

The 'Gen. V' V-8's always required an oil filter with a 22 psi relief valve.  The confusion came from the 3.6L V-6's and some of the Ecotech 4 cylinders that originally came with PF48 oil filters (15 psi relief valve) which were changed to the PF 63 and PF64.

I don't think the PF63 fits the Duramax.

You should stop thinking, or get a newer truck

Gotta love it when people quote you over 2 years later...and then to tell you to stop thinking!

You dealt with his out-of-nowhere comment better than I would have.

I read so much of Grumpy I’ve realized he’s not about learning but “ see me I’m grumpy”. He’s definitely no friend.

Learning besides filing the void of ignorance; is a process of letting go of things you are wrong about and accepting the 'proofs' offered to you spotlight the truth. From the day I started writing, I stood on that soapbox and told people when I was WRONG, why I believe I was, sometimes why I believed I wasn't, what convinced me  and stated a proof filled case either way, and then, offered a few tips to others to prevent them, hopefully, from following my convoluted path to what I accept as true today. The point of a forum meant to share knowledge. If that is being a bad friend then I'm a bad friend with a crystal clear conscience. Terry, it's not about "Look at Grumpy". About yelling out.....

"WATCH OUT FOR THAT LANDMINE!!!'

Being steadfast in holding on the truth is kind'a the goal. A wise man once said, "Know the truth and the truth will set you free." It frees you from ignorance, the mistakes ignorance brings and I find most important, not being swayed by every wind tossing waves of the sea.

Because I said so; is NOT evidence of anything nor is 'I'd tell ya except I have this NDA or it's intellectual property so just trust me, I'm an engineer.

World is full of ill winds. The kind that benefits the sails of no ship. When one blows hard enough, I turn my collar up and turn my back to it.

If I wrote be be agreed with I wouldn't have made it month here.

Migrating back to oil filters.............

I just changed mine yesterday. I now have about 24,500 miles on my 2024 3500 6.6 gasser. The filter in the pic is drying to be put away for next change, as i have 2 filters because they dont sell just the base. As the base on one is for another vehicle thread size i had before the cheby, So its just swap out filter everything but the base, clean let dry, seal, put away till next time.

Next time being if the motor dont crap out. So far so good, motor hasn't carped out. Still sounds very, very, very happy.
