There's your answer right there. Your truck has only the ATF-air cooler (not liquid-liquid heat exchanger in the radiator), so is using predominantly vehicle speed to move air across the cooler (with some fan action, but the fan is pulling most of the air through the engine coolant's radiator). With reduced air flow (presumably going slower when in 4WD due to the terrain requiring 4WD), increased resistance (heat) in the transmission (turning the extra axle), coupled with air that is less than 65% as dense as at sea level, it's no surprise you saw increased heat. The dry air at that altitude also has less ability to absorb and retain heat than humid air, too.4 points

I really hope we do something about relying on China for everything. Bring the manufacturing back home , cmon! The chip shortage should be the calling card. Still crazy no one has said anything to this country about their virus . OK I'm done ranting , thanks for listening.3 points

Just heard the Rod Stewart song on xm coming back from store. 'Some men have all the luck'. Anyhow part of the chorus rings true to this thread; "Some men do nothing but complain"2 points

SORRY mental block......i meant 4HI, i was in 4HI crawling up this rough AF road for probably 20 minutes, never getting out of 1st gear. Temps were probably 45-55F outside, but it was also above 10,000 feet. I've used 4LO I think once in my truck's life, on a steep boat ramp pulling a boat out for 10 seconds, that's it. Awesome graph, thanks for that info. Seems to explain it well, seems like nothing to worry about, given the conditions. I use Amsoil in both diffs, with GM Dex 6 in the transfer case and transmission.2 points

I had the dealer exchange out my fluid to AMSOIL ATL fluid. They didn't drop the pan. Just a fluid change and this is with 24k on the truck and it is a 10sp. Cost me $130. I'll do the pan drop and filter at 100k.2 points

Well after 2 years of problems with the 8"touch screen on my 2017 gmc Sierra I have finally fixed it it would randomly change stations and flick icons as if you were touching the screen, hours of investigating poor earth's and low voltage as suggested on various forums but to no avail, my truck is a personal import into the UK so no dealer back up here I decided to remove the screen and disconnect the touch digitizer from the screen by unplugging the brown ribbon cable put the screen back in the truck and everything worked OK, obviously the touch doesn't but I could use the buttons below to navigate the screen and radio icons so all functions now worked without any problems, after driving for a few weeks with no problems I was confident that the touch digitizer was the cause of the original problem, ordered a new one from China as GM buy them from there just $239 plus shipping for the screen and digitizer as I didn't fancy trying to remove the digitizer off the original screen, a week later it arrived now installed and working perfectly Thought I would share this as I didn't think it would be such a cheap fix,1 point

Had the truck washed at one of the many Autolavados I've been seeing in Mexico on our current roadtrip. I stored the truck for 6 months over the summer in Omaha while we travelled abroad, and when I took it out in December, I couldn't get a good opportunity to wash it properly. I've been looking for a self serve car wash for the last 2 weeks in Mexico but they don't seem to exist. I never considered the full service Autolavado because I've been paranoid that they'd be using dirty stiff bristle brushes. But coming up on 7 months without a wash, i couldn't take it anymore! Man was I pleasantly surprised! Dude said it would be 130 pesos (6.25 USD) for the whole truck inside and out. I sat and watched as they went over it for 75 minutes. First a gentle rinse, the full wash, followed by chamois dry. All soft towels, no brushes. Then the entire interior, upholstery, glass, door jambs, tires etc. Truck looks as good as the day it rolled off the dealership!1 point

I purchased the Putco stainless steel sill guards on ebay. They are also a GM accessory.1 point

Quick update to say that I got the replacement head on last night. One thing that is making it a little easier this time is I took the fender liners out and I lower the front end with the tires off on jackstands so I can reach a little better. I’m going to work on this slowly, I have a few things going on. Hope to be done by Friday and then I’m going to start a thread on rustproofing.1 point

I went up Mt. Washington in D and saw temps 200-210. For some reason, after watching TFL truck and listening to Mr. Truck say higher RPMs cools the transmission better, i went up a smaller mountain, locking out the higher gears (I think I limited the gears to 1st and 2nd) and the temp went up to 230. Maybe you being in 1st the whole time was the culprit?1 point

I went for a drive tonight to get out of the house and away from my wife. She was driving me crazy all day. Hit the mountains east of San Diego, put to Julian. It wasn't the tires that bothered me. It was the fact I was in a truck. They don't handle sweepers like a Camaro. I think I need one now. Do you think the tires are quieter than the supercharger on the ZL1?1 point

I had the Firestone LE2's on my truck when I bought it 3 years ago, just replaced them this winter with some Nitto N421q's because of low tread depth. I had no issues with mine at all until they got low on tread but that would happen with any tire. They even held up pretty good with a few burnouts before I swapped them.1 point

Wtf is a Tim Hortons doing there? I think we have bigger issues than a semiconductor shortage. GM employees are drinking coffee that is likened to soaked dirty socks that got rung out and eating donuts that started out frozen. It might actually be time to bail on GM. Blame Canada (Southpark Movie reference).1 point

how does it run in 4wd Hi vs 4Lo? you could be on an incline and may not be moving the truck fast enough to engage tcc lock up, so the torque converter is over working the fluid and creating lots of heat, or vis versa, you need to data log the trans with tuning software to know whats happening inside try using Manual gear M4 instead of D drive1 point

Welcome to the forum. If you use the search function in the upper right corner of the forum page and search for "service ESC" phrase you'll turn up quite a few threads on this specific topic - good luck.1 point

If you are from Calgary do you run Amsoil or synthetics in the drivetrain? 4LO on my 2022 LTD 2.7L T Trail Boss Custom is a tractor gear, going 30 mph is too fast. At least in the snow here. You get around Bro!1 point

I went and fueled up this morning, and I couldn't help but notice how good the truck felt. So a I did a few wot runs, and man she was on fire! So I got home and started thinking about density altitude and was curious what the current DA is in my area. Found an online calculator, punched everything in and came up with = 2284 That's about a 1000ft better then I could even dream of getting during the summer. ahh well, it was fun1 point

Unfortunately the dealership won’t pay me to spend my time going over with them what is wrong and needs to be fixed. The whole culture of the customer bowing down to the almighty corporations to me is just crazy. When I bought the truck I figured it would take me a little time to sort it out. If the fuel injection system was defective I would have just slapped a carb on it and been more than happy doing it too. As you can tell, I’ve owned a BMW before…1 point

has anyone compared the old with the new, could you take the inner parts from the new one and put them in an old one, this way i would not have to change my tranny lines1 point

I have looked at many of the posts here to see if anyone has done what I have to alleviate these vibrations but I don’t think anyone has. Background: I used to race 1/8 mile asphalt supermods so I never liked the thought of torque restriction electronics or ABS or traction control. I had the vibration problems even when my 2017 Silverado 3500hd WT was new, especially it was felt while slowly shifting from 2nd to 3rd and then to 4th. Modulation of throttle in higher gears also caused vibration. I removed traction control and ABS fuses and the vibrations are no longer present. Smooth as glass all the way to 90. I have dash lights now but in the future may be able to take them away with HPtuners. The truck is a different animal with this easy mod as acceleration is not hindered and is now instant. I am convinced that there are programming issues related to the transmission and torque control. The transmission, 6L90, now shifts firmly also. Love my truck, love every vehicle I’ve ever owned. I mostly tow with my truck so I had to buy a towing brake system since the factory one is disabled when I disabled the ABS. Totally worth it, the trailer brake is better than what came with the truck by far. Good luck to all out there!1 point

Part Three: My experience and suggestions for those looking to make a move on one of these options On my 2019 K2 Silverado, I have now experienced both the Sure Cool kit, and now the GM lower temp thermostat. Now, why would I go and remove the Sure Cool and install the GM thermostat? Glad someone asked. Shift performance, particularly in cold climate. Full disclosure, I am dyno tuned, both engine and trans. Nothing aggressive, just some nice driveability and performance gains. With the Sure Cool installed, it takes a bit longer to hit 68F, where the torque converter is then allowed to lock up (this has always been GM's minimum trans temp for lockup to start). In the 68-105F range, I'd noticed some occasional shift quirkiness as well. Knowing how it operated in the spring/summer/fall at warmer fluid temps, I decided to switch to the new GM TBV and am glad I did as all my quibbles of the Sure Cool were elminated with the trans being allowed to run warmer. With this in mind, I came up with some recommendations for those looking to modify their 6L80 (and T1 6L90) trans bypass valve: Stock/light tuning but no or occasional light towing (3000lbs or less): Switch to the new GM 158F TBV. Stock/light tuning but frequent heavy towing (over 3000lbs): You "could" go to the 158F TBV, but the Sure Cool or pill flip would be ideal in this scenario. Heavy powertrain mods (blowers, turbos, big lifts with massive tires 34+up): Pill flip or Sure Cool. There is also the possibility of running the 158F TBV here as well, user dependent decision. If you see cold temps, so 40F and colder: GM 158F TBV. This will allow for good cold weather transmission operation and lower summer temps. Warm/Hot year round: All 3 options can be used. If towing is involved, run the flip or the Sure Cool.1 point

A safe alternative for us who live in regions where we see extreme cold is to install GM's newly revised thermostat bypass assembly which now contains a lower temperature thermostat.1 point

I have a 2021 6.2L TrailBoss and I have added a 3.0L Whipple Supercharger and ECU unlocked by HP Tuners. All the work and dyno tuning has been done by National Speed Inc. They have been able to squeeze 580whp which is pretty close to 700hp at the crank. My truck will keep up with my 2015 C7 Corvette Stingray. To my knowledge HP Tuners has recently been able to unlock the GM 10spd tcm. My shop has confirmed it and they want to wait until HP Tuners offers more adjustability. Currently there is not much that can be done to the tcm even though it is unlocked. I have only had one problem with this setup. After about 5K miles the pulley and main shaft snapped in half while cruising on the interstate at 75mph. Whipple and National speed obviously fixed it for free as it was all still under warranty. If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to help. I'm going to attach the dyno report.1 point

Foot off the brake, press and hold the start button for 5-10 seconds. It will turn the truck into the RUN mode which will let you shift it in to neutral with the engine off. If the truck was dead dead so no battery power and can't be jumped and replacing the battery doesn't fix it, dealer has a special tool to put it in to neutral.1 point

Because it didn’t work at all. Would never come on when getting sleet or slight rain. I had to turn my wipers off and on every 30 seconds myself as they wouldn’t come on themselves. I found a way to disconnect the feature otherwise I was literally going to trade the truck off I was so pissed off.1 point

New here currently driving a 2017 Colorado 2.5L I4 going to test drive the new Silverado with the 2.7L turbo Saturday. I’ve driven the 5.3L v8 already really liked it looking at a 2.7L RST all star edition double cab. From what I’ve seen on the reviews people seem to like this engine. Does it feel week at all during take offs or anything thanks.1 point

I agree with@z1boss, in the past I always said I’d never pay extra for safety features/packages etc, but once you have them... man they are convenient! It’s definitely worth it, it’s just that extra little thing to keep you and your truck safe1 point

Honestly, I haven't used the task lights at all. However, this Safety package includes the blind spot monitors and the rear cross traffic alert and I have been saved multiple times by both. It's a big truck and more prone to missing what is around you. It's your choice but it is definitely worth the money in my opinion.1 point
