I would disable the AFM. It won't do you any good and it will sound like hell when it runs in 4cyl mode with headers and exhaust.

Thanks. All of ya'lls trucks look hardcore and I appreciate any and all input. Id suspected that Id have to disable the AFM. Hey Blackout did you have to cut enough to move your winshield washer fluid tank to accomodate those tires.. Truck looks good. I need to look a little more into the Blackbear.. Said the 6speed has to be tuned in person or thru email... Not trying to sound ignorant but I was under the impression it was a handheld.

Where are you at in Texas?

Sounds like you were referred to Wheatley...if you're closer to SA I would got to Nelson and get a street tune done

Also that TB spacer is actually slowing you down...it's just added weight. Take it off and sell it to a kid who doesn't know any better

I live in Edinburg. I was told by TruckToys to go see Fastlane Incorporated in Houstan. Theyre supposed to be the best. I didnt pay much for the throttle body spacer. I dont imagine Id be better off without it. Much closer to SA. Where/what is Nelson in San Antonio?

There is a Blackbear meet in Dallas and Houston coming up. If you go with the BB autocal it IS a handheld. Just tune files are sent via email. A custom tune from BB beats any handheld IMHO

Good looking truck :driving:

Nice Truck! I've been out of the game for a bit but I'm sure there's a gear head around here that can tell you the conversion for your truck. I know nothing about the 6 speed but having 35's on your truck now with your current gearing is probably closer to 2.8's now. If you go with 4.10's you will be somewhere near 3.73's I believe. I'm sure this will be gutted for accuracy but I'm not trying to be specific as I am a point of reference. I had a 1985 F-150 I put 4.56's and lockers in with 35" tires and a C5 tranny, and the shop said I was just around 4's with the final drive ratio. Running 35's with anything less than 4.10's is not going to give you the umf you need imo. I agree with the others, 4:10's all the way even if my logic is inaccurate and flawed, lol. Love the truck and I was actually looking at the BDS lift. How's it ride and handle? The thought of lifting one of these badboys makes me cringe compared to how easy my ford was a TTB front end that I did in my garage. Someday though, I want one and the BDS setup looks good. Keep posting your mods, look forward to seeing that thing grow.

I appreciate it bro... The suspension rides and handles great. Plus you cant the lifetime "use and abuse with confidence" guarantee...If it breaks even in competition they replace the part no questions asked. I paid about 700 more but I left with peace of mind.

I was originally gonna go with the Rough Country 5" lift but the guys over at Truck Toys convinced me to go with the BDS (not to mention the bad reviews on several forums).

Tax time is here and Im fixing to do headers (thinking Dynatech), regear, and a tune all at once to avoid any problems.... I appreciate youre input as well as all the others that have replied to my post. Thank you very much...

Like everyone said get rid of throttle body spacer they do absolutely nothing for fuel injected engines. If it was carborated then it would have some benefit. But if you are wanting to cruse I would do 4.10's. If you want a little more get up more torqy do 4.56's, also look into putting in a tru-trak in the rear. As for trimming couple options would be to cut away some but if thats maxed already you can do a 1.25" body lift from RC or 1.5" from zone offroad. For my trimming I simply took a heat gun and molded the plastic back out of the way some. As for headers I'm not sure there. But a custom tune is by far better than say and edge or diablo tuner. I have a black bear and what a difference and thats with stock 3.42 gears(switching to 4.10's and another tune next month).

Hey thanks Dave. If the throttle spacer isn't doing me any good then for sure ill remove it. Waste of 100 bucks.. That comes with not knowing any better. I'm set on the 4.10 now, the headers and custom tune. By mid Feb I should have it all done.

Thanks Blacktruck

I'm finally getting my refund and now I'm gonna re-gear.

I decided on 3.73's to replace my factory 3.08.

Does anyone have a truck similar to mine with the 5.3, 6 speed tranny, 35's, and 4.10's? If so please let me know how you feel about it..

Everyone says 4.10, but I get conflicting opinions shops and I know the 3.76's are a stock option for these trucks.

I'm gonna have to choose within the next few days so any input helps..

I called Nelson in San Antonio but they don't do regear jobs and they are booked for a few weeks plus they don't open on weekends.

Anyone from the Valley or SA know a legit shop to regear?

Thanks!!

    • Late reply, but yes—it works on the SLT trim. Compatibility comes down to the plastic shroud shape behind your mirror, not the trim badge itself. On the SLT with auto-dimming, it uses a plug-and-play Y-harness off the mirror/rain sensor power, so no need to run wires down to the OBD port. If anyone's ever unsure about fitment, just drop a photo of your mirror housing and we can double-check it.   Appreciate the detailed feedback on the install! On the windshield glare—we actually took feedback like yours and developed a dedicated CPL (polarizer) filter to cut down dash reflections on sunny days. If you're still running the cam, shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to send a CPL filter over for you to test out—no charge.
    • There are no stickers in your glovebox?
    • Look at the numbers on the stickers in the door jam...
    • Yes, every time the developer updates his code, you must recompile. I will private message you with the latest because it changes pretty much with every version.
    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
