It wasn't that hard and I didn't have to bake the headlights since the cover in the back is huge.you can remove the factory projector thru there...

The factory projector is holding by 4 #20 torx screws..

You need to drill the 2 bottom hole of the new projector to be able to match up with the factory location and yes you do need couple washers and longer screws..

He talked about it, but it doesn't apply to your reflector headlight assembly. You'll need to bake it, split it open, auger out the back of the reflector and either epoxy in the reflector, or if you're lucky you might be able to run some screws thru the plastic reflector. So, no. There are no 'standard' screw patterns for what you'd need to do. It's much more 'homey' than that. I recommend poking around the HID Planet forum for a while to get an idea of what it would take. The method needed is similar to most other reflector type headlight retrofits.

Read it. A dude replaced a Silverado headlamp assembly that had OEM projectors with FX-Rs, so he didn't cut anything nor talk about how that part of the procedure went. The electrical stuff doesn't phase me, it's the cutting and then mounting the new projector. My lamps are reflector housings, so I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to get the projectors to mount. Are the mounting holes standard and match up or will I also need to fabricate some kind of a mount?

For the reflector housing ,watch this video to have an idea of how it done..

2014 SCrew SLE, Iridium metallic

I have read this entire Thread over and over again, unfortunately there are so many variations of the HID modifications, it becomes confusing as to which parts to buy. That being said, I have only owned my truck for 22hrs but am ready for new headlights, it only took one hr of night driving (last night) to make that decision.

I am getting ready to order my parts for the HID upgrade, not full retrofit, can someone validate that the below list of parts is accurate:

KIT: 9012: MORIMOTO Elite HID System:

  • Ballasts - 3Five DSP
  • Harness Type - HD Relay 9012, do I want the Canbus or HD relay? (Probably a good idea to order an extra)
  • Bulbs 3Five 4,300
  • Capacitor Link
  • Extra Set of Bulb's (better to have local than be SOL)

My questions:

Is this the best kit for just the upgrade?

For the Harness Type, do I want the HD Relay or Canbus, is unclear in the posts

Do I need to order any special Relay Adapters or am I good to go?

I just ordered a set of these for Fog's, will these color match the HID bulbs I selected or should I cancel my Amazon order and get a different Fog bulb?

This is a factory Sierra projector (one) with a Morimoto 3Five (35 watt) kit installed. Pretty decent beam pattern for a non-HID projector, IMO. There are better beam patterns from some of the better HID projectors, but this isn't bad for a kit conversion.

That's pretty trick. What/when do you use that?

I think it'll get you in big trouble in a hurry if you do that stuff on the road. There are laws in every state about flashing lights for emergency vehicles only.

There are also color limitations. On the front of vehicles you can only legally ride around with white or amber lights. However, most cops won't worry unless you are causing trouble. Or atleast around where I live Edited by Mike1220

Where did you get the halos from? And how are they controlled. I am thinking of getting some RGB halos and getting my light bar so that it can have a multicolor back glow. Have seen one guy on Instagram who had his LED DRLs retrofitted so that they would change color with the halos and he had a 50" light bar that did the same.

Fixed it......the way the Harness was wired from Morimoto the factory Harness wiring needed to be reversed. I put my meter on the red and black and it read -12v......flipped wiring and no more buzzing.

Can you elaborate on what exact wires need to be reversed? I've had my Mirimoto kit in for a few months, and sometimes the relays buzz and sometimes they don't. But I would like to try reversing what you did to see what happens. Thank you.

Hooks those up to an arduino, have them slowly pulsing ala Iron Man arc reactor style, but subtle. Cool light show for a cruise in.

Add a mic and have the truck react "angrily" when someone speaks bad about it. Lights turn red brighten up.

Add a motion sensor and make it turn sad (green?) when people walk away.

would anyone over 20 years old really want headlights in those colors?

I am 35, 16 year Navy Chief! I like the look and my kids will love this. It's a parking lot mod, if I drive, I will either turn them off or use only the white color. Life is too short to be serious all the time.

I'm 18 and I realize it's way to short to always be serious. Thanks for your service man!

Also where did you get the halos? I have been considering getting some.

I plan to open my headlights sometime in the next few months once I get a full weekend free. I plan to do halos, paint all the chrome black, and retrofit some better projectors

Fast headlights LLC did my head lights. I went to there site and told them what I wanted. They are good guys and do quality work. They did the HID projector retrofit as well. You might be able to google the halo company and order them by size. I'm sure they know which halos fit per car/truck model because it's pretty popular in the mod if you want to do it install urself. I'll reach out to fastheadlights as well and let you know.

    • So I'm in the middle of a DOD AFM delete on my 6.2 L86 Sierra. I had a pick holding the tensioner but after I got the Cam phaser gear off I was cleaning off all the rtv and apparently I didn't have the pick seated far enough in. I bumped it and the tensioner sprang forward.  I think everything is good but I want a second opinion. The top of the tensioner is just a looped piece of plastic that rides in that channel right? There is no spring or anything is there? I got the gear and chain back on and it seems tight and everything looks right. I'm hoping nothing fell out.
    • My 2015 1500 LTZ Silverado suddenly won't go into 4 x 4 low. It will go into 4 x 4 high.
    • Yep, just a quick reference point.    My main point being I’d do a thousand other things before I’d pay 10k for a transmission.    Speaking in ignorance cause I don’t look at these trucks, what is it worth? 20k?
    • I think users are going to want to pick their monitored parameters, which parameters they want to see first.    It should probably start with baseline at a minimum and adjust to learned, but be able to overlay baseline for comparison.   A simple severity level would be able to determine what type of alerting is appropriate or user selectable.    Why not use the OBD port though?   I think a phone connection would be a good idea, push notifications type deal.   Number 1 issue is having data is useless if you don’t know what the data should be under normal conditions.
    • I thought I would use your thread and add to it as I just did my first longer drive with my truck in the last couple of days. I drove from the Grande Prairie area of Alberta down to Edmonton and most of where I drove in the city was the ring road so fairly free flowing but a bit of stop and go as well in the city. Stayed the night and returned home and not too many stops along the way each way but every restart and certainly every cold start sets it back for fuel mileage. Why I say that is I see some people will cherry pick a fuel mileage leg after the vehicle had been warmed up driveline wise before hand and its a forgiving ( easy rolling drive leg for example ) and call that their fuel mileage which can give a false perception of reality. I was not heavily loaded at all but never the less the flip bak cover, rubber bed mat, various tools etc and extra jerry cans of fuel all way up to a few hundred pounds of dead weight so its not an empty truck. The cold inflation tire pressures are set more near the freezing point so once they are warmed up driving I was showing 45 front and over 40 rear and realize high inflation pressures would help a little in fuel mileage but certainly not the ride on our crap sections of highway. The weather was good so was not raining as that can really drag mileage down, in fact I had a bit of a tail wind on average driving home. Most people on here would never have driven on that freeway to visualize it but its got a fair bit of rolling type of landscape with numerous river valleys. For the most part I had it on cruise set to 62 although kicking it off if I caught it in time before it started down shifting and self braking going down the grades. Most of the more substantial grades its shifting into 7th I believe as 8th just doesn't have it. Total distance round trip was 643 miles and my overall average and I did refuel three times in all, figured out to 17.65 miles per US gallon. My best fuel mileage section refuel within all of this figured out to 18.46 and these are all hand calculated figures. I find if anything that the trucks computer can be over optimistic, sometimes its pretty close but other times its stretching it. On paper persay in theory the truck would have just about made it on fumes for that whole drive without refueling once.    Which made me think of the topic thread of the wonder if these trucks could do 20 mpg and that is a good question, certainly would have to be on an easy going flat highway, no head wind, the right temperature, not packing around a bunch of dead weight and puttering along even slower than I was I would suspect and going steady and not stopping to smell the flowers or take a piss !. It probably is possible but not without effort to attain that with the wind resistance and weight of these trucks. Of course on my drive most people are passing me if they have the power as per loaded highway tractors, never mind a lot of speedy vehicles but the speed limit is 68 and most are at or well over that.
