So i ordered a set of Bilsteins so i'm ditching my ranchos. But i figure hell, my brother can use the Ranchos on his 2012 Chevy Silverado SLE 4x4 could he not? Both are GMT900 suspension right? Granted the dampening rate wouldn't be set up for his truck i imagine they're better than the factory OEM twin tubes he has. Since he got his RC 2" leveling kit there was definitely a loss in ride quality. His truck became very stiff IMO.

 

Not sure how much of an improvement the Ranchos will be. My ride got stiffer, but it's not terrible. Maybe it would be worth it. I do believe they should work though.

I told him I'd give him them for like 50-100$

 

I mean his ride isn't unbearable or anything it just took a hit IMO from where it was. I figured the OEM ranchos that came with mine would at least make it a little better. The stock shocks are twin tube aren't they? And the oem ranchos from the z71 monotube? Figured it would help a bit.

I have a question, or maybe matter of individual opinion. I have the Rough Country 2.5" level/lift with the rear blocks (have not installed this kit yet). I am debating as to whether to install that with a 1.5" Zone Offroad body lift, or the Performance Accessories 3" body lift, or go with the 7" RCX lift. I want to put on 35x12.5x20 tires 20x10 wheels with either a -12 offset with backspace of 5 Fuel Mavericks, -19 offset with a backspace of 4.75 BMF Novakane Death Metal, or -24 offset with a backspace of 4.5 Fuel Maverick or Krank. Just looking for those of you that have done maybe a combo of these and opinions. I understand that it is personal preference as to what people want, affordability, etc. I have read this thread and the suspension lift thread and am really on the fence as to which way I want to go. Seen so many great looking trucks that are leveled, leveled + body lift, and lifted. Thanks in advance.

Ive had my 2.5"RC lift for about 2500 miles now on 33s. No issues with the steering. Dont know why or how it would mess with it at all.

Ok guys, any help is appreciated....I have a dilemma between going 295/70/18(unknown fitment) vs 275/70/18(known to fit easily).

 

My setup is 2014 Sierra A/T Double Cab with RCX 2.5" kit.

 

My question is geared towards the 295/70/18... how bad will I rub on 18x9 +12 ? What 18x9 wheel offset would work?

I see some guys doing 295/60/20, on the 2.5" kit, and that measures about .25" shorter than the 295/70/18.

 

I just don't wanna invest that kinda cash and not be satisfied with overall width and height of the tire. 275/70/18 just doesn't seem like a large enough increase to justify. I don't really wanna go to a 20" wheel for overall ride quality and the look just isn't for me, I like meaty sidewalls. Any input is appreciated, I'm ready to pull the trigger.

I'm facing the exact same dilemma as you. I'd like to go 285/75/18 or 295/70/18. I don't think anyone has gone with those tire sizes. I wonder which would fit better. One is a bit wider and the other is a bit taller. I'm sure with the fender mod these tires would fit no problem on a leveled truck. There were a couple guys running 35's on 18" wheels with just a level. One was on GMFS (http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5513077&postcount=41) and the other guy was here (I think he had a red Sierra and he was running trail graps).

 

275/70/18 is a safe bet but like you said, it just doesn't seem like enough.

18" problems haha I read that 295/70/18 rub with RC 2.5" on stock rims. I love the Z71 rims do i went with the safe bet 275/70/18 Cooper Discoverer. Love em

Yeah like 14x4 said, 275/70 is a sure thing but it just doesn't seem like enough.

 

You're on stock rims which is 18x8.5 +24, correct?

People have ran a 275/70/18 on a 2.5" level with 18x8.5 +24 offset, so If it would rub anything it would be the carpet and not the UCA but this setup has been done on a couple of vehicles here. Method seems to be popular on our vehicles in 18x9 with offset ranging +12 to +18.

 

When you refer to offset, you also need to consider rim width for the change in actual inner and outer rim position.

I have 295/70x70 with a +18 offset i havent trimmed anything and thats with the 2.5 rc kit , i could have gone a bit bigger i think youll be fine with a 295/70x18

    • The problem with failure rates or increase failures are there’s people who don’t have a problem. What are you doing wrong they say. We had 4 5.7 GM diesel’s in the family when they came out. One was flawless. My uncle who happened to be the most abusive. Early rotary engines were known to use oil. I abused my first car so bad in six months I replaced the clutch, transmission and rear end. It didn’t use oil. My brother in law has a 2013 Tahoe and an older Yukon. The Yukon has 280K miles. The Tahoe around 175K. He runs them to about 300K. If his lifters fail before that time he would consider it a failure. My Hondas, I know people hate it when I mention them. Identical engines. One with cylinder deactivation one doesn’t have it. One shudders when the eco light goes on or off. Cylinder deactivation. But wait! According to the web. It can happen with lock up too. So now people in the know are changing the oil and transmission fluid more often. Then you read it could be a programing issue. So what do you do? There’s lots of money involved. I see three ways to deal with it. One only works if you don’t drive lots of miles. Lease, never get out of warranty. Or only buy older vehicles with a good track record. They all have bad runs. Usually when there’s a change. Even Toyota and Honda. 
    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
