2012 Sierra 6.2 engine oil disappeared, no warranty?

You gave them the out if you had any other filter than the AC Delco installed on your vehicle. It is a little know fact that after market oil filters (even though some are superior) void the warrenty (if one is in effect).

 

The dealer will use this as the excuse, instead of REALLY fixing what is wrong with the vehicle.

 

I purchase the AC Delco PF48 @ Wal-Mart for $3.78 per filter, that way the dealer (incase something like you describe goes wrong) can "kiss my @*s".

The ONLY time a filter will void warranty is if it is the incorrect fit or completely the incorrect filter for the engine.

 

 

Bingo on that. They can't void for non OEM parts like oil and air filters as long as they meet or exceed manufacturer requirements. That's like telling you that you have to use a particular brand of oil or gasoline... sorry doesn't work that way.

 

 

Doesnt matter anyhow... the breather froze and it has nothing to do with the oil filter. And he dealt with a terrible oilfield trash town dealership that couldn't care less what they do or don't do..... that's what happens when you get to deal with nameless faceless companies and fleet programs all day and make money hand over fist because of it.

I respectfully disagree with all the above analogies, and I base my answer on speaking with 3 different service managers, at 3 different GMC dealers.

 

I can not believe that all 3 would be blowing smoke up my rear end.

 

Don't misunderstand, outside of warranty work, I would NEVER have any work performed at the GM dealer.

If you believe that you better ask what brand of oil and gasoline you need to use so you don't void your warranty..... and don't do anything yourself either because that will void your warranty too.... What people believe makes me laugh lol.

I agree, didn't the dealer say it was a leak through the oil filter?

 

I was trying to point out that the GM dealer will look for any excuse not to cover the repair.

Magnuson Moss stuff doesn't mean anything here.... this isnt the united states.

 

Regardless they cannot void over the use of OEM spec parts.

The dealer is full of it... look at the pics... filter is dry. Its his breather froze in weather only an Alaskan would understand beyond a fellow northern Canadian and the oil blew out somewhere on the passenger side and likely the dipstick tube.

Act certainly does nothing in Canada. Are you referring to the PCV tube? Can you do an old school breather instead? That's crazy.

As for the filter, they would have to prove it, not just say it.

Maybe its the lighting, but looking at the OPs pics, that oil sure looks very dark or not black to me. A little to dark to only have 3,000km on it. Just my opinion from what I see in the pics.

They dropped the fact it was a non-oem filter after I told them I have pics of it being dry. Never once came up after that.

Fixed orfice to intake manifold ... froze either in the orfice or right at manifold. Good old winter and the venturi effect.
