Diesel 1/2 Tons

It wasn't even 200 miles. No excuse to drive that slow over 200 miles on highway.

From what I read it said they set cruise at 65 and after 188 miles they hand calculated 30mpg. I'm not seeing where they said they slowed down to get better MPGs.

The DIC shows 60 but in reality if they never reset that, it's always low. Our G6 has an average speed calculator and we never reset it even though we drive on the highways all the time. It constantly sits at about 35mph.

Sitting at a light even for a few minutes will kill your average speed but if they went through the trouble of showing the DIC screen I'd think they'd reset all the counters for accuracy's sake. Even 65/speed limit is slower than most people drive in real life. The limit on most Michigan highways is 70 but most do near 80. And like it has been posted, the math doesn't add up for owning this.

Sure. Not disagreeing with the math for ownership, was just wondering where it said they were doing 56.

I agree though that 65 is still a low speed to be going on the highway. Most major highways here are 70 also but some are 60 and 65. Most of the lower speed limit ones though are closer to the cities.

Well when I go 65 on the highway I'm not being passed and I still pass some people 55 is too low on a highway

True test:

Put three gallons of fuel in the truck at a gas station right off the interstate, get back on interstate, set cruise at 65, and see if you actually make it 90+ miles till the truck putters out on the side of the road. I know you shouldn't run a diesel out of fuel, but that is the only true way I can think of really testing it. 30mpg will never be realistic for me. My foot stays in it too much lol

Screw miles per gallon my truck gets hundreds of smiles per gallon

In 2016, there will be 3 options for a diesel in a 1/2 ton pickup. The Ram (with their own engine), the Titan (Cummins 5.0L V8) and the Tundra (Cummins 5.0L V8). The ram currently has their diesel out, but it is fails in comparison to the Cummins engines in the bigger trucks. The Titan will be out next year, and the engine is already getting great reviews.

Diesel is a 1/2 ton will have it's advatnages and disadvantages. Better fuel economy is always awesome, but goofballs that think they can tow 20,000lbs with a 1/2 ton are going to destroy their trucks in a hurry.

Working for Cummins, I have a better appreciaition for the technology in the coming years. Diesel is still expensive to maintain though....wonder what the maintenance costs will be on a 1/2 ton gas v diesel....

It still works out in the end IMO...take my truck for example.

I can go twice as long between maintenance intervals. Costs about $60 more for oil change/fuel filters blah blah blah. It's worth almost ten grand more than an equivalent equipped 2500 with 6 litre. So you can go longer between maintenance, get better fuel mileage and when it comes time to sell you will get much more for your vehicle. It all works out in the end....it's debatable yes but I came from a 6 litre getting 10 mpg. When I sold it I barely got anything for it and it wasn't even high mileage.

The initial cost is high but over the life of the vehicle it all comes out in the wash. It's what you're willing to spend.

That's what I'm saying you're paying for a bunch of nonsense.. I'd rather have an old square body with manual windows over these 14s.. My 06 sle is the newest I'll go anything after that I dont think I could deal with.

Years ago I used to drive a 1976 Chevy Blazer with a 350 motor with 4 barrel carb, 3 speed auto, AM radio, and heater. The original MSRP was $ 6,800. This was the best off road vehicle I ever drove. Took me through mud in West Virginia moutains that few vehicles could get through. No air conditioning, no power windows, no power locks, no remote keyless entry, no power seats, no heated and cooled seats, no heated steering wheel, no navigation, no power sunroof, no backup camera, no power rear window, no oversized chrome plated alloy wheels, no leather seats, no carpeting. How on earth did I manage to even drive something like that? Without a heated leather wrapped steering wheel?

I agree I'd drive old skool rebuilt vehicles over anything made in the past couple years. I hate what vehicles are becoming.

The problem is that if you want to have a certain "gadget" you'll be forced to "buy" stuff you don't want or need.

Best example is my truck. The Thunder Edition comes with the automatic climate control. I don't have probs with it but I just don't like it.

I bet that if one orders a 1/2 ton with a diesel he will be forced to purchase other stuff too.

Make the option list more flexible and many people will choose to spend more for a diesel over a heated steering wheel. I guess.

so long

That is one thing Ram does have over the others you can get the Hemi in everything, Im sure they will do that with the diesel down the road.
