Transmissions Issues/Problems

I have reached out to Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro (www.hbsslaw.com) for assistance regarding the transmission issue. According to their website they are a "consumer-rights law firm that settled the largest auto defect lawsuit in history, represents owners of GM-branded vehicles in a national class-action lawsuit seeking compensation, statutory penalties and punitive damages against GM on behalf of owners of millions of vehicles affected by safety defects and recalls."

I will follow-up when I hear back from them. In the meantime, I am looking for a way to capture support. I figure a law firm will be more likely to jump on this issue if they knew a lot of people were affected. I'm leaning toward a facebook group as we will need to keep everyone updated. Also prevents anyone from having to collect everyone's personal information. Downside is that not everyone has facebook. If you have any other ideas, please let me know,

You might check the big vibration thread for posts by Jesse. He tried numerous firms and got no takers and that thread had over a million posts. Law firms are looking for safety issues that's where the money gets interesting.

I think my tranny is eating itself, intermittent steering wheel vibration from day one... Tires are RFB to less than 5 pounds. The V4 vibration sucks but now a new feeling emerges, V4 cruising at 70 mph, about every 10 seconds I get a very noticeable heavy shudder for about 2 seconds, rinse repeat until she kicks out of V4.

I can also replicate at lower speeds.

I think it is Torque converter clutches, will keep an eye out for charred tranny fluid

Yup. That seems to be the case for me as well. I'll keep trying though.

Might be shooting in the dark here, but is anyone interested in taking some sort of collective action (class action lawsuit, change.org petition, facebook group ... anything)???

To me, FaceBook is worse than GM. That being said I would welcome a class action lawsuit against GM about this issue. If anyone has info on a group attempt let me know and I will support it both physically and financially.

Legally you have to contact them, I would send a registered letter to the manufacture listed in your owners manual. Outline that your vehicle shakes, and behaves unexpectedly, and the vehicle is dangerous while searching for a gear in key situations. After you send your letter you have full filled your legall requirements to inform them of a problem.

Now ask them to intervene on a fix, do not accept it back untill it is properly fixed! Do not sign off on anything until you have driven 30 days without issues.

I asked my dealer about this the last time it was in and the answer was "the mechanic didn't see any issues"

ri

I had my 2015 Sierra Crew Cab with 6.2L/8 Spd Trans, 4 WD, with 30,000 miles. Told them about the shutter at all different Spds on the highway. When the service manager came to tell me my truck was ready, he also told me he ordered a new torque converter and would call when it was in. They replaced it last Wednesday and it is like driving a new truck. There is a PIP5887 Bulletin from GM on bad Torque Converters . I would contact the dealer with this info.

Be very wary of what you do with that request. That’s the route we took and all it did was cause more problems for us. After “GM Customer Care” got involved on here, two of our local dealers didn’t even want to come anywhere near our truck. When we tried to take it back in to the dealership we purchased it at for repairs we were “refused service for a mandatory factory recall update under warranty” and we even had the GM factory recall letter in hand at the time.

We took it to another local dealer we had never been to before but it seems the service manager knew about our truck in advance. After we gave him all our info he told us to take our truck somewhere else, they weren’t going to write it up, they weren't going to look at it, and he didn’t care that it was under warranty for a mandatory recall they didn't want it.From that point on we had to take our truck to a dealer out of our local area to get it looked at.

Roughly, the same thing happened to me. Once GM customer care got involved, dealers didn't want to be, as they don't want to deal with a customer they may not be able to make happy come survey time. Two dealerships refused to look at my truck even at GM's request, and that's when GM customer service let me know that a dealership, even the one that sold the vehicle to you, is not required to do warranty work on the vehicle. Essentially, your warranty can be worthless if a dealership won't do any work, and when I pressed GM customer service about that point, the most I could get out of them was, to paraphrase, "we won't get into the legal ramifications".

This Denali will be the last GM product I will own for quite a while at the least. We've already decided that my upcoming 20th wedding anniversary present to my wife won't be a Z06 Vette. The 6.2L engine in my truck is lovely. But the 8-speed transmission continues to piss me off as well as the super slow to respond touch screen. And after I saw the fiasco with the seatbelt recall (which I still won't have done; no one's giving me a crappy hole in my "precision" vehicle) and their summer engineering intern designed new capless fuel system, I just don't see myself buying another one. I've had my eye on a new Raptor, and the only thing that hasn't fully swayed me yet is the V6 in it. If they had left the 6.2L option, it would have already been a done deal.

So, that’s why when we went back to get copies of our previous work orders they had all our filed printed internal service paperwork marked with “DO NOT CONTACT CUSTOMER”. They accidently left our file open and sitting out on a service writers desk while they printed us a copy and what they handed us did not have “do not contact customer on it.”

Very interesting.

Who else is having a transmission issue? I saw the thread about hard shift into 2nd, but towing yesterday at 65 mph the transmission literally jolted the truck like it fell out on the freeway, scared the sh*t out of me. Also under acceleration it feels at times like it cant find the right gear, hesitates a bit then finds it. Also when decelerating, letting off the gas it paused then hits. Wanted to see if anyone else is having similar issues. Ive taken it twice to my local dealership and both times they say "Sorry, we couldnt get it to replicate for us, here are your keys."

I am still having ongoing issues with the exact same crap going on. I have had the truck in the shop for 34 days now total and it is going back today. Shifting all erratically yesterday and today the check engine light finally came on. Maybe now theyll be able to acknowledge there is something wrong. Truck has 5800 miles, has already had a torque converter installed (no fix), tranny reset 3 times (no fix), and an entire exhaust system installed (suppose to fix the rattling noise, which it did not). Dealer say theyll just keep putting exhausts in it since thats the only thing they can do. As far as the tranny issues, I have been pushed out the door multiple times with, no problem found. I have requested GM reps to come out and have been denied. Does not seem GM or it's dealers are able to provide the customer support that is needed here. I ca not wait to get rid of this POS.

The transmission is being pulled by the dealership, I will update with their findings

I was towing a garden trailer with a 700-pound tractor in it in the lower mountains of TN, going about 60 mph downhill when the transmission suddenly went into 2nd gear! The rpm pegged out and the trailer almost jackknifed on me. I was in the trailering mode but have never experienced anything like this before. I immediately switched out of the trailer mode for safety. I believe the GM transmissions are totally unreliable in all modes of operation and there appear to be areas where the transmission does things that have not been programmed for it to do. It appears to just slide into gears that should not be expected whether it is an upshift or a downshift.
