No one has mentioned Kahr. I have a PM9, ( which I carry when space is limited, and I like it a lot. No external safeties, nothing to confuse in a high-stress situation. Trigger is excellent, like a smooth, light DA revolver. They make a range of sizes and calibers, 9mm, .40, .45. Only drawback is they are all thin, single-stacks, no hi-caps.

I just picked up an XDs 4.0 in 9mm. I have been carrying a Kimber CDP Pro in 45acp daily for about 6 months, I'm not sure how this XDs will fit into my rotation but, its definitely a little bit smaller than my 45.

And don't take it into Illinois, I heard their gun laws are on lockdown (I wonder who caused that?) lol

Pretty sure that's their carry permit.

 

IL is confusing. You can pass through the state armed but the gun can't leave the car. But as s destination it's off limits unless you get an IL carry permit.

Weird laws. Nice thing about VA is you can open carry at 18 and apply at 21 for your concealed. As long as you have proof of gun safety it only costs $50 for your 5 year permit

Michigan makes you work for it. 8 hour course, range time, finger prints, background check and then a month or more wait. I bet I spent $300 between class, permit, ammo and fuel. But it's good in 39 other states, the best you can do on one permit.

 

NH on the other hand requires no class, cost $10, payable to the local PD. I dropped off the application and my permit was delivered to my house about 23 hours later. The delivery was just luck- one of the officers had to head to my part of town but it's still a fun story, especially since at that time you couldn't even get pizza delivered.

$75 plus $9.95 fingerprinting and a local county fee for the permit to carry. Next wk I go for fingerprinting (digital)

That's the way PA is, all you have to do is fill out a 1 page form and get your picture taken, and they mail you a permit in 2- 3 weeks

My county issues you your carry licence on the spot after criminal history check.

 

You walk into sheriff office, tell them you need firearms license. They have you fill out the form, run criminal history, take your picture and issue your license. simple process.

Because I find the smaller firearms like the XDs are better suited to 9mm than 45acp. The smaller cartridge is more manageable in recoil and the 45 at 5 in the mag seems like too few rounds compared to 7 rounds of 9mm. Both cartridges perform about the same when it comes to terminal ballistics. Honestly besides 1911's I just prefer the additional capacity of the 9mm handguns and the lighter recoil allows for faster follow up shots. Additionally the XDs 9mm was on sale, the local store made a special buy on the 9mm's and they were on sale for $450.00
