I've read so many posts about the 5100s my head is spinning.  80% love them, 20% say they ride terribly.  Seems like there would be some in between.  Perhaps some Install error?  Maybe bolts need to be torqued when the truck is on its own weight?

Everytime I'm ready to buy them I find someone new who says they're terrible.

When have you ever been in a room and had 100 % of the people in the room agree on the same thing?

It’s $450 not a $4,000 purchase - and 80% (by your estimation) agree on the value of the 5100.  I’m unsure what else you need? A consensus?

Imagine if you applied that same selection criteria to the question:

should i I buy a Dodge?

should I buy a Ford?

should I buy a Toyota?

You’d never make a decision in life - if you’re looking for consensus from “peers.”

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions with valuable information. I picked up the Bilsteins off amazon for 365 shipped if anyone is in the market.

For those that have changed the strut settings after installation, how difficult is it to adjust? I know its just a snap ring but I can't imagine its super easy to adjust.

You’re welcome and Good Luck!!

Photos are always welcome after install.

If other folks hadn’t posted images & advice on their setup - I would have been lost.

My point is there is a wide spectrum in results.  I assume something may be going wrong on the install or some defective part.

I decided to order them from 4wp.  $297 shipped for all 4.  I go back and forth on which setting I'm going to do, either the 2nd or 3rd (.75 or 1.25 claimed lift). Since I don't really want to mess with rear blocks and my truck has under 2.5" rake, I'll probably go with the 2nd setting and maintain 1.5" rake.

I'll be sure to post pics and a review!

I've used this style strut on a different vehicle, different brand.  You have to remove and disassemble the strut to change it.

If you got the set of 4 for $297, I don't think you got the height adjustables for the front. You might double check what you ordered.

4wheelparts has a promotion on the package.  My understanding is the non height adjustable ones are 4600. I did call them to verify but they have to get back to me tomorrow.

I asked them if that promotional price covered the 5100s that fit my vehicle and they haven't gotten back to me in a week.

It doesn't, I tried to order them for my old truck last year and it only included "shocks" whereas the fronts are struts, so the deal did not apply. Cheapest I found them was amazon and summit at the time...Now I'm driving a 2017 and after one year of ownership I've had it with the Ranchos and I'm on this thread.

That's annoying.  I called them a few hours after I ordered and they said they couldn't find my order yet but they'll call me in the morning.  He agreed that the 5100's are height adjustable so it should be correct. Sounds like if it ends up costing around $375, I should still order them.

Back in page number 113 (i think) there is a phone number and a salesperson who's name is Alan mentioned in the body of the receipt. The price and his number are there, so perhaps make it easy on yourself. Parts arrived next day - and everything was perfect.

You guys were right.  Error on the website, it's for a truck with shocks only.  Straightened it out, paid the extra and I should have them soon.

4600s are the same internal shock, with yellow paint on the outside and blue boots/protectors.

Other than the silver look to 5100's, 4600's will do the same job if you are not wanting to level the front end.
