Replacing my aftermarket stereo with a new aftermarket

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I purchased my truck a year and a half ago (second owner), and it had a Sony CD player. Last night, it crapped out while truck was running. I checked fuses, all was fine! so i figured the Sony just died. I just bought a replacement... a Pioneer, so I re-wired the new harness (thank god for colored wires!) and i turned my truck on, and still nothing out of the new unit.

am i missing steps here? I drive a ton, if i don't have radio, i'm going to lose my mind!!

How about the ground? I assume you checked all the connections , but that ground can be tricky sometimes. Do you have a tester, you can see if you are getting your 12 volts at the wire harness? Does the unit power on and no sound or just nothing at all? Also, when I installed my aftermarket pioneer (2006 Sierra), i had to run a power wire from the head unit all the way to the fuse box. The wiring harness I bought came with it but it was separate from the wiring harness adapter. Check that power wire as well.

Hey Thanks for writing.

I will try and get my hands on a tester.. and yes, I have power going to the fuse box, most everything was already set for me because the radio that was in the truck when i bought it was an aftermarket. I am getting zero power to the unit!
