GMC or chevy

Put the ruler away... He stated clearly that he had a couple of features they didn't and pointed out that he had an SLE and they had LT's. No is claiming that something like the LTZ and a Denali package are on par with each other.

I feel like you are making exactly my point, but not realizing I was being sarcastic by asking him to compare (and he apparently didn't catch it either, because he just turned to schoolyard insults).

An LTZ does not compete to a HC or Denali, and trying is irrelevant and pointless, just like comparing an SLE to LTZ (which is what the guy did in the post I quoted), if a higher trim was missing something present on a lower trim from the other brand, or if competing trims have things on one brand and not the other there is a point to be made and it contributes to the conversation, if a higher trim has something a lower does... well that should be a damn expectation not a "point of comparison".

Go back and re-read it - you're off base... He mentioned that his LTZ trimmed Silverado had both of the things that the guy with the SLE had (which THAT guys' buddies didn't have in their LT's).

I know that is what he said. But LTZ competes with SLT unless I missed something, not SLE.

SLE and LT compete and the original guy noted that he has things missing from his buddies (competing) LT, and hence, something present on SLE but missing from LT warrants comparision, something present on the higher trim LTZ does not warrant the same comparison.

The only two reasons I bought my GMC over Chevy were, at the time I got a better deal and they sell Hyundai the only car my wife will drive. As far as one being better that the other, really? That's funny.

I like certain things on Silverados and certain things on the Sierra. At the end of the day they are a toss up and it comes down to personal preference. They are the same damn truck! I would have been happy with either but found the best deal for me on a Silverado so Silverado it is. The one thing on the Sierra I would have hated had I gotten a Sierra is the red dash lights. (Again personal preference) they remind me of the POS Pontiacs dash lights from the late 1980's and 1990's. However I am sure I would have grown to like them had I ended up with one.

Chevy doesn't have soft touch dash? That was one thing that impressed me the most about the quality of newer trucks (last truck I owned was a 95 Tahoe.)

I preferred the GMC front end more than the Chevy, but that's about the only thing that led me to GMC. I like the nostalgic front clip on the chevy, but its something I enjoy seeing coming and going, not necessarily living with every day. Haven't noticed any issues with the lights.

Yes you just have to get an LTZ to get the chrome door trim and soft touch on the dash in a Chevy.

Correct, sorry I should have elaborated a bit more my point was that you get some of the same stuff on a SLE as standard that is standard on a LTZ Silverado but not on an LT silverado.

GM should have shut down GMC. So silly to have redundant product lines. I cheered them for getting rid of Pontiac and Saturn. Too bad they stopped there. Not that I dislike the Sierra, I just think GM should keep only Chevy and Cadillac. If they do keep GMC it should be fleet/commercial sales only.

That's a dangerous game to play. GMC has a significant fan base and the Sierra is currently the 4th best selling truck in the US with numbers that are roughly 50% that of Chevy's. Those are substantial and there is no guarantee that if they phased out GMC, that those sales would transition over to Chevrolet. Heck, overall in 2014, the Sierra was still in the top 20 vehicles sold.

I bought the Chevy simply because my GMC dealer did not have the variety of vehicles that my Chevy dealer did and I ended up with a better deal at Chevy too (Chevy dealer is much larger with more inventory). Comparable models had the same options. Only had what I was looking for in black at GMC...didn't want another black truck. Both dealers are great! Bought my wife's T/A and my GTO from same dealer when they sold Pontiac. Still do a lot of service there (GMC dealer even installed my front Bilsteins). So, if I found what I wanted at GMC and the price was right, I might be driving a GMC now instead of my Chevy LTZ!

Drive them both and buy the one you like best...

Another solution would be to eliminate trucks from the Chevy lineup and let GMC handle trucks and SUVs while Chevy just offered cars. I guess that could get muddy with who sells the crossovers and small SUVs. I know a lot of combo GMC/Buick dealers would not be economically viable without GMC. There was a time when each GM brand offered something unique and had design autonomy but with that gone for many years it seems like bad business to have parallel product lines, factories, dealers, etc just building pretty much the same thing. This definitely played a roll in GM's financial woes in the past and hopefully can be prevented in the future.
