GMC or chevy

Another solution would be to eliminate trucks from the Chevy lineup and let GMC handle trucks and SUVs while Chevy just offered cars. I guess that could get muddy with who sells the crossovers and small SUVs. I know a lot of combo GMC/Buick dealers would not be economically viable without GMC. There was a time when each GM brand offered something unique and had design autonomy but with that gone for many years it seems like bad business to have parallel product lines, factories, dealers, etc just building pretty much the same thing. This definitely played a roll in GM's financial woes in the past and hopefully can be prevented in the future.

Agreed, and this is not even a tiny bit unique to GM. They offer different brands to appeal to buyers with different buyer preferences just like most brands do.

Look at VW, Audi and Porsche:

An A3 and a Golf are the same, just skinned and optioned differently, as are the Touareg and Cayenne.

To get really crazy, compare a Phaeton to a Bentley Flying Spur - it blows my mind that the Phaeton didn't sell well in America (so much so that VW doesn't bother to bring them here anymore - sad).

Ford and Lincoln:

Taurus and MKS

Expedition and Navigator

Nissan Z vs Infinity G

Honda Civic vs Acura ILX

This list could go on for ages, so I'll just stop now.

I prefer the GMC's nose (tho clearly not for everyone). I also hate the blue/green lighting.

I also noticed (nice surprise) when I took my friend's '14 Silvy for a drive... all the trim in the Silvy (radio surround, etc) is silver painted plastic. The GMC it's all brushed aluminum.

Otherwise they're the same truck.

My Chevy dealer does not carry any GMC lines. Is that common? It's not a huge dealership by any stretch, might be a space issue.

Just depends...within 15 minutes of my house, there are two huge Chevy dealers, a small GMC / Nissan dealer, a GMC / Cadillac / Buick dealer and a GMC / Ford / Chevy dealer. The last one is out in the country and specializes in trucks more than cars. But you can try a GMC, a Ford and a Chevy all on the same lot! But the two huge Chevy dealers I am referring to have more truck inventory than the others.

Every year the 2 seem to get closer and closer to the same. My 10 Denali was miles above the Silverado (I had the new body 07 Silverado before that) and came with AWD, and the 6.2...and the main reason was it was so hard at the time to get the Sliding rear and GMC had it (plus there was a ton of them silverados running around and only a few denali's)......today there seem to be less and less "real" differences. The only main diff for me was the magnetic ride on the denali and that I got it 5k cheaper then the best I could get on HC (though I did find a 14 HC for 42k). I still got 35k on my trade last month for my 10 denali...could not get that if I had a 10 Silverado.

Not upset, just a General Motors fan who doesn't want to see another bankruptcy and gov't bailout in the future. I could really care less what happens to the two brands and I have no allegiance to one or the other, just posting hypothetical solutions. But like you said I don't run anything and thank God for that.

Years ago I owned a GMC truck and at the time, I thought it was a knock off of the Chevy.

Then i found that the GMC's were built before Louis Chevrolet made his version of the GM truck. I thought GMC's are a little higher priced because they offer higher quality options on their lower level models and it goes up from there.

Years ago, the Chevy went down one assembly line, and the GMC the other. The only difference was the grille, wheels, and emblems in the cab, and of course paint colors.

My GMC went over 450,000 miles before I sold it. I now have a Chevy because I just always like Chevy's from way back in the 70's.

I like the looks of the GMC's body over the Chevy's but I am not spending another $45,000.00 on a truck.

I bought the Chevy simply because my GMC dealer did not have the variety of vehicles that my Chevy dealer did and I ended up with a better deal at Chevy too (Chevy dealer is much larger with more inventory). Comparable models had the same options. Only had what I was looking for in black at GMC...didn't want another black truck. Both dealers are great! Bought my wife's T/A and my GTO from same dealer when they sold Pontiac. Still do a lot of service there (GMC dealer even installed my front Bilsteins). So, if I found what I wanted at GMC and the price was right, I might be driving a GMC now instead of my Chevy LTZ!

Drive them both and buy the one you like best...

Several dealers in this area sell both Chev and GMC.

Total production chev volume is higher than gmc -- and has been for many many years.

The Silverado front clip looks way better than the GMC with its dumb fishmouth grille. The GMC headlights also look stupid and apparently have the crappy performance to go with their crappy look!

Also, the current GMC logo is a$$. The letters are too close together and compared to GMC logos of the past it leaves a lot to be desired. Don't even get me started with the Denali owners-- they pay even more of their hard earned money on a stupider looking grille.

That said, the Sierras are still sweet trucks even with their stupid looking front ends. I just like dogging GMC owners for their obvious inferior taste to Silverado owners!

I think the silverado is plain & looks like ass...Most people know the siera is the stylish step up from the silverado... not knocking the quality cause they are the same truck at heart but now I would have kept it to myself if you werent bashing a sexy ass truck. My all terrain sierra really is one hell of a stylish truck and gets compliments on the " crappy " led trimmed lights & high end grille all day ....just sayin

OK I have a dilemma I have had my mind made up to buy a GMC sierra 1500 at. The salesman is saying the sierra and Silverado have the same ride and are quiet I'm cabin like the sierra. Anyone have experience and which way you would go[emoji31]

Subjective subject, The Chevy vs. GMC are indeed of the same platform, just buy the truck that appeals to you personnally and drive on.

Some here will apply similar augment to color choices.

At the end of the day, its what you like/want, and your money.

Interesting - didn't realize that. When I was shopping I was only considering SLT/LTZ variants. Though I did test drive an SLE w/All-Terrain (that particular dealer didn't have any SLT quad cabs) and was impressed at how nice the "mid-level" truck was.

This is true. My SLE is the Texas Edition and comes with some type of package. I have all leather seats, power seats, soft touch dash, the doors have leather inserts and are soft touch, all the aluminum inserts are real aluminum. Only thing I'm missing, is a auto dim rear view mirror. I tough I had it but I guess not... My SLE was dang near 45K, so it wasn't cheap.
