22 x 14 Wheels on a 1500?

Hello,

I recently just bought fuel lethals 20x12 -44 offset with 35x12.5x20 Atturo trail blades and a 7-9" Mcgaughy lift. The lift is back ordered and I am hoping to install it the 18th. I will definitely let you know what cutting/trimming is necessary and whether it is trimming the fenders or metal. I thought my 20x12's looked big in person but I can't imagine 22x14's. I can't wait to see what you decide.

Back to the point of the thread I didn't mean to hijack it, but I would not recommend doing a lift smaller than 6".

Same goes for the extreme lft guys - you may spend the dough on a full suspension lift and tires, and it may look the part, but w/ 3.42 gears and 355 or even 420 HP, super heavy tires, you're really not any better offroading than a stock truck other than ground clearance, in terms of power to the ground you're heavier and down on torque and gears, what's the point?

 

Gearing is obviously important but the larger tires and travel of a good lift will make a massive difference offroad even if the truck is a bit underpowered.

 

I am going to get regared but I can tell you with the new tranny and a good tune my truck on 35" mudders is just as powerful as it was stock.

Won't the sides of the truck get destroyed with rock chips with the tires and wheels sticking out 6 or more inches? When I see trucks set up like this I always think show truck.

If you are setting the lift at 9" you won't need to trim anything with that set up, I have the same lift and I am currently running 20x10 -24's with 35x12.50 mudders. I will be going to RS2's that are 20x12 -44 also with 37x13.50's. Even with 37's you only need to trim a bit in the front.

 

You will be golden if you set it at 9" with no trimming at all.

Awesome input from everyone so far! I'm glad I ended up posting here before I made a firm decision, so the wide wheels route is totally scrapped for now. I don't mind the street truck look with 24s and low pro tires, I had a similar set up on my cadillac but like it was mentioned before the ride does suffer. Maybe a happy medium would be 22s with decent sized rubber. 20s are a little small for my taste.

 

22 inch wheels with a level and AT/MT tires...thoughts? I know, I know I've been all over the place since this thread first started but I'd be stupid not to take advantage of all the knowledge on these boards while brainstorming ideas hahaha

You could do 22' and 33'. Would looks pretty good IMO. But keep in mind your most likely still gonna be rubbing pretty bad with a 10 wide rim.. As I said before I have a leveled 2500 on 33's with a 10 wide and I'm rubbing pretty good

Here's a pic of 20 inch rims with 33 inch toyo MT's just so you can get an idea! I toyed with the idea of 22's and 33's and sometimes I wish I did it but it definatley is a lot of rim and little sidewall.

I'm a big fan of the Rockstar II wheels as well. This is the look I'd be leaning towards with those

I hope the picture worked but I was in the same boat as you but spent the money haha. I bought 24s and loved the way it looked but hated the way it rode. Since I live in San Francisco I couldn't lift the truck like I wanted (small parking garages) so I went with a 2 inch level and 22s with 33s. I am really happy with the way it turned out.

Thank you! The tires are 33x12.5x22 I think. I want to say the offset is -12? I honestly never really looked into that LOL I just wanted it leveled with 22s and 33s. I do wish the tires stuck out a little more then they do though

      People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.

      Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.

      I have a LTZ and it has the shifter in the console, which I like, but, every now and then, it will not stay in Reverse. I go through all the motions, hold the button in, push the shifter forward and watch the dash.  The big red R comes on and also the back up camera.  Then, it just pops out of Reverse with the shifter all the way forward.  So then the game begins.  Back and to Drive, Reverse.  This goes on 8 - 10 times. Very frustrating. Had it back to the dealer and they replaced some kind of computer, but it is now happing again. It is so bad, my wife will not drive the truck, she is afraid of being stuck somewhere.    Anyone else with this PIA problem?

      I see where you’re going and I can appreciate that. Statistics can be misleading because of the word average. They say statistics show the average cost of a new vehicle is about 50k. The average monthly payment is close to 1000 dollars a month. That’s statistics for you. I know very few people who pay that.
