Changing power to 'cigar lighter' power connections

I realize that the vehicle I'm referring to here is not a Silverado or a Sierra but I'm hoping someone out there can help me out. My father has a 2015 Acadia Denali and he advised that all of the 'cigar lighter' power connections remain powered after he shuts the vehicle off. I'm not sure how many of these connections there are in total on the vehicle but he wants to change one or two of these connections so that they power down when the vehicle is shut off. Is there an easy way to do this?

In the Sierra 1500 not all outlets are powered when truck has been shut down.

I added extra outlets to mine by adding a fuse tap in the drivers side fuse panel and running wires to where I needed them, I added a Wilson booster under the dash under the steering wheel. ( I used the ACCY/RUN CRNK fuse for this)

I also added a one that is powered all the time (2-way radio),(used a fuse marked spare for this)

The objective is to change the power outlets from always providing power even when the engine is shut off to only providing power when the engine in on.

thank-you for your quick replies. I appreciate very much. Nice truck fondupot. I have a Sierra 1500 SLT 4wd Z71 double cab on order. Summit white, cocoa dune interior, 6.2 motor, 20" wheels. The dealer told me it should be coming in early July. I can hardly wait.

I wanted to change over my for my GPS but told you can't and or not worth it unless you want to cut wires etc..

On my Denali, the 12v plug on the back of the center console goes dead as soon as the key is off. I know this because my wireless charger taps that, and it loses power as soon as I turn the key off. Perhaps you can use that one, or chase its leads back to tap them?

 

Edit: I just realized the question was about an Acadia, not a truck, so I don't think my answer is very helpful.

There is a section in the Silverado owners manual about swapping a fuse around and changing the aux output to key on only power. Might check you owners manual.

Doesn't work if it is wired directly to the battery. Changing the fuse doesn't do anything.

I believe Scott meant changing the position of the fuse,not the rating. The fuse either goes into a constant supply or accessory supply position, the load pin sits in between the two others and is used no matter what.

 

To the OP, as stated, check the owners manual or fuse panel label. Otherwise, you need to run a new circuit.
