Howdy, My 2015 z71 ltz has a vibration at about 42-45 mph, Had it into the dealership, they had it for 4 days and said they had the driveshaft rebalanced. The vibration is reduced but still their. On inspection when I got home It looked like a weight was welded on by the diff. But NO signs of the driveshaft being removed ?. Now it is back with a collasped lifter. waht else can go wrong.

Just a little on me I forced into retirement from GM in 2008. From GM Truck & Bus in Pontiac, Mich. Now known as the north american truck plant.

I have done about every job their but mostly in repair and inspection. Roll test Inspector,Road test inspector, Heavy repair mechanic in Heavy and light trucks and Buses. It seems that the service tech DON'T listen to the customer.

I will keep you posted.

[...] because the roads are so bad out here in California because they are made out of concrete [...]

Almost blew coffee out my nose on that one. CA has much better and smoother roads than anywhere I've lived. Try the frost-heave latitudes.

That said, the tires currently on my car (Goodyear) sure are loud on concrete.

So got my truck back yesterday. Diagnosis: there weren't any wheel weights on any of the tires. Guess they forgot to balance the tires at the factory. So for now, vibration and shaking is unnoticeable. Truck just turned a year old with less than 8k miles. Hopefully no other problems develop. *fingers crossed*

You drove the truck for a year without any weights on the rims?!?! No wonder you had shaking/vibration problems.

Update,

GM tech has been on site working on the truck for the past two and half days and cannot find the problem (truck has been at the dealers since July 1st). Issue has been escalated to the next tier support and another twelve to twenty four hours of waiting. I get the excuse of “we have to follow a process” but no one can tell me how long this process can last, just another 24hours of waiting and then another and another and so on. I’ll update the post once I get more info.

good luck! I'm looking forward to any results you get, I do love my truck... other than the issues of course, I would love to have them fixed

Update,

After escalation, GM and dealership tech found the following anomaly. Dealership pulled in four Silverado’s from the lot and compared them to mine. During inspection they noticed the exhaust system was not the same as the other four trucks. For some reason and no one can explain to me why the exhaust was run from the flex pipe in a different direction than the rest. They thought the vibration maybe coming from the exhaust and explained they may have to replace the entire system from end to end. They did a test (not sure exactly what they did) with the exhaust and were still not able to identify the issue but are not ruling out the exhaust system just yet. Issue has been escalated again and a GM engineer from Michigan will be coming to the dealership next week. I believe this is the final approach of a resolution before we start looking at a buy back or swap of some sort. I’ll update the post once I hear from the dealership.

Unless you sent them the final repair attempt they'll keep working on it. We just had ours with the engineers for a whopping two days. They replaced the two front tires that failed the road force. We don't know why that's all they did, I looked my service advisor square in the eye and told him it wouldn't be fixed. And guess what, it wasn't even a little bit better. They already road forced and changed out four tires before the rebuilt the differential and changed the shaft. We have to call Monday to find out the next step but seeing as they spent so little time with out truck we think they ruled it as a lost cause, so hopefully the buy back talks will go smoothly!

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
