DOSP - Dealer Order Submission Process

The weekly process consists of 4 stages.

1. Constraints Distribution - Dealers are informed on constraints to review before placing orders. (A Constraint is a limit placed on specific build configurations.)

2. Dealer Order Submission - Dealers can order on Thursday, Friday or no later than midnight on Saturday. (You can submit orders earlier but you don't know the constraints.)

3. The 4-Pass Process - GM will attempt to place each dealer’s orders on Mondays using a 4-Pass process. (At this point a dealer may get more or less than was allocated, if they asked.)

4. Dealer Review - You can review your placed orders for changes or replacements until Tuesday at 9pm ET. That's when the orders are sent to production control.

Thanks very much for this information ElCamino,

It is interesting to know how the process works. I spoke to Chevrolet again today and was told that the constraint prevents all dealers from placing an order with this option. They said that allocation was not a consideration. They also told me that if an order was already accepted when the constraint was put into effect, it would still be built, however, no new orders would be accepted if they contained a constrained option until the constraint was lifted. They said that the constraint was expected to be removed within the next month, and that such estimates were usually pretty accurate. They could not give me a more precise availability date for the engine - it could be tomorrow or in 3 weeks. They also said that a supplier availability problem caused the constraint (likely a shortage of a part for the engine). I can't attest to the accuracy of any of this information, I'm merely reporting what I was told.

I am concerned that the cutoff date for accepting 2015 model orders is very close to the planned lifting of constraint on the engine. I don't know which will happen first. Chevrolet also told me that the constraint list is issued every Monday, and that when a list was released with this constraint removed, the order containing the 6.2L engine could be accepted. They said there was no notification for removal of the constraint, so I would just need to check every Monday to see if it was gone yet. So that's the latest update. Keeping my fingers crossed for now.

ElCamino: If you might be able to offer some advice on the best way to handle this situation, considering your knowledge of the process, I would be grateful for any guidance. Thanks Again.

So last Thursday (8/6) I placed my order and at that time I was told by my dealer "We called GM. 600 engines are available, and we have our allocation. Your order should be able to be built, but it may take till Monday 8/17 for your order to be accepted". I called Chevrolet directly today (Tuesday 8/11) and was told that my order was not yet approved because "it isn't the 6.2 engine holding your order up, it's the crew cab. Your dealer may not have put in their allocation". After that, I called the dealer again and was told that "everything is fine on our end, don't worry about it, and we will know more Thursday, call back then".

Does anyone care to try to make sense of that? How can my dealer have told me they "have their allocation" and GM have told me that "you don't have an allocation"?

Also, I can't track my order. Gmconnects.com links to chevroletconnects.com, which is an unreachable site with no DNS info. Chevrolet.com/order-tracking just redirects to the Chevrolet main page. Does anyone else have a URL with which to track orders?

GMconnects.com seems to work for me.

I'd also be grateful to anyone who could make sense of this situation. Tehfade and I both tried to order very similar vehicles on the same day - crew cab with 6.2L engine. His went through and mine did not. We both got updates from Chevy today and he was told the 6.2L was not holding up his order, while I was told my order could not be accepted because the 6.2L is on constraint. I was assured that it was not an allocation issue, while his seems that it might be an allocation concern. I'm thoroughly confused at this point.

I'm in a similar situation as this but talking to the dealer I've decided to go ahead and order a 2016 when I'm able to do that. My question is why is it so important for some of you to make an order of a 2015 at this late date rather than wait for the 2016?

Posted

For me, I like the look of the 2015, I like the blue and green that are going away, and most of all, I stand to save a bundle on excise tax.

Anyway, an update if anyone is interested, despite all the conflicting info I've seen here and heard from GM, I have a build date. So, here's hoping everything goes smoothly.

For me, it's mostly preference for the appearance of the 2015 over the 2016. They're removing nearly all of the chrome from the front end in 16 (see link below).

http://www.chevrolet.com/2016-silverado.html

Beyond aesthetics, this is a rather chip prone area of the vehicle. Chrome is much more resistant to chipping than paint. I've seen so many rusted out painted bumpers from chipping. The chrome ones rust out eventually too, but it happens from behind and takes much longer. Also, they won't begin building the 2106's for another month or so.

In addition to the facelift, I've seen the following changes announced for 2016:

2016 Chevy Silverado deletes five colors while adding three new ones:

Deleted Colors

White Diamond Tricoat
Deep Ruby Metallic
Victory Red
Brownstone Metallic
Rainforest Green Metallic

New Colors

Siren Red Tintcoat
Red Hot Exterior color
Iridescent Pearl Tricoat

In addition, the 2016 Silverado deletes the driver alert package along with the two grilles (one body-color and the other chrome with chrome surround) from the 2014 and 2015 model. Then, the 2016 Silverado refresh goes on to add a slew of features, including:

Seven-inch color touchscreen IOB MyLink system (replaces the IO4 Radio)
HD radio, which was deleted for 2015 Silverado, returns for the IO5 and Io6 MyLink systems
In-vehicle wireless device charging for smartphones
Remote Locking tailgate
High beam assist (on the driver alert package)
Available power-retractable assist steps on Crew Cab models
New headlamps, including bi-halogen projectors with LED park and turn, or the full LED headlamps with LED signature lighting
LED signature tail lamps
Enhanced driver alert package
New 20-inch chrome clad aluminum
Chrome recovery hooks (LPO-level)
Silverado Custom Double Cab trim level (late availability on Double Cab and Crew Cab)
Black out package (late availability on Double Cab and Crew Cab)

Lastly, the Z71 is now only available on 4WD models (as it should be) and the (N37) manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel is added to the (PCM) LT Convenience Package on Double Cab and Regular Cab models.

Enhancement on the 2016 Silverado Driver Alert Package is two-fold:

The addition of the IntelliBeam headlamps
The replacement of Lane Departure Warning with the more advanced and effective Active Safety Lane Keep Assist.

It appears that the new Enhanced Driver Alert Package will actually correct steering upon sensing lane departure, rather than just warning the driver.
