What brand of oil are you using in your truck?

Just changed my oil this weekend. Went with Amsoil Signature 0W20 again. This interval was 6800 miles. OLM had about 12% life left. I'll be sending in an oil sample to Blackstone to have it analyzed.

Also, I found on the tip of my magnetic drain plug, I had about half a pea sized clump of fine metal particles that it caught.

All of you that are saying you use Mobil 1 0w20...are you meaning Mobil 1 Extended Performance? There is no regular Mobil 1 in the 0w20 flavor.

Exxon Mobil has both Mobil 1 0w20 and Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 on the Dexos approved list:

That's weird, because there is no regular Mobil 1 in 0w20, just EP and Advanced Fuel Economy. The regular Mobil 1 is only in these weights: 0w40, 5w20, 5w30, 5w50, 10w30, and 15w50

Hmm, didnt realize these new engines called for such thin oil. Is it to save fuel economy at the price of engine durability? Or would bad things happen if one ran thicker oil? -- I'm use to putting in 30w oil and would like to continue doing so if it means better engine protection at the cost of fuel economy

In terms of brand on my old truck I went with whats cheapest (and if you look at engine data you will see that brand doesnt matter as much as changing it when it needs changing) -- But so far my corvette has only gotten mobil 1 full synthetic (not a synthetic blend)

Edit: just checked the corvette manual (same engine as 6.2L available for silverados) and they recommend SAE 5W-30 for normal driving and 15W-50 for track events, which makes me think this is about fuel economy more so than durability

One thing with the lighter oils is that they can clear tighter tolerances, however that may help.

Once I've torched through my freebies, I will run QS full synthetic and a purolator boss filter.
