5th Oil Change?

I do have a 2014 chev. oil filters are based on micron levels, the higher the micron level the filter will collect the fines of elements in the oil. I was told that these engines also monitor oil pressure at different rpm's which the olm uses to calculate the life of the oil. the higher micron level filter will tell the computer that there is higher oil pressure being detected, which makes it think the oil is getting dirty and the olm will decrease with this

They must have forgot to tell my truck that!

 

They said the engine took 8.5 quarts of oil in the manual too, until they figured out they were overfilling by at least 0.5 quart.

 

They also said the headlights on the GMC's were safe for night driving.

 

Sorry but, I'll believe what I have documented, that's says different.

 

You can believe everything they tell you if you want. Some do, and most should, at least until you have proof it's different.

 

I've never ran mine lower than 14% so, unless all this adjustment starts transpiring at a lower percentage than that, I'm not buying the BS.

It's a mathematical algorithm that takes engine speed, humidity levels, temperatures and average fuel economy (probably other stuff as well) to calculate XX% of oil life. It is not a mileage based counter.

Depends on the vehicle. Our 2011 Acadia is at 5k miles at 10% OLM. Every single time. No matter if we take a 1400 mile trip or just drive around town. I'm sure this is do to the issues that they have had in the past with the 3.6 going through timing chains in early years. So they just made it simple for owners and had it click off at 5k miles no matter what.

You must not have a 2014? My 2014 clicks off 1% for every 75 miles, no matter how its driven.

 

Been keeping a record since day one. 30 months and 30,800 miles worth. It don't matter the engine hours run, idleing time, speed, winter, summer, working, hauling, vacationing. It's all the same 1% for every 75 miles traveled in my truck, period!

Just means your driving doesn't vary as much as you think it does.

I know you guys have been focusing on filters but I was sure that the Mobil 1 extended did not meet the dexos certification. I almost grabbed it last time for my wife's car until I noticed it did not have the logo. I'm not sure what the dexos means but I can't bring myself to pot in an oil that doesn't have it.

The oil does have the dexos approval, I know bc that's all that I buy

Learn something new all the time. Maybe it was the Mobil 5000 or something else I wad looking at I only use Mobil 1 as well.

Nope.

Just the gold cap is better for extended intervals between oil changes.

I always do the oil and filter deal for M1 EP at my local auto parts store and then pick up another 5 qt jug at wally world

Wix XP is one of the best filters you can buy, also fram ultra, and royal purple is top tier, many of the others are just 3k filters
