There is a lot of information in this post that has helped me understand many of the complexities of upgrading mirrors. I have an early 2015 2500HD Diesel that has tow mirrors with heat, power, and signal in the glass. I bought New style aftermarket Mirrors with the same features plus clearance lights and backup/courtesy light. No power fold or extend. Since the temp sensor is still behind the grille, I don’t have to worry about the the K40 sensor but I would like the marker lights and courtesy lights to work. Can this be done without any major complications or modifications? I should mention the truck also has seat memory option as this seems to cause issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ah. If it’s a gas truck, it won’t have one. It is usually visible on the lower cap.

Ok.  If it doesn't have one is there any reason it shouldn't work?  I stopped by a GMC service dealer to ask and they said they weren't sure, but newer model 2500s didn't come with non-towing mirrors anymore.  Wondering if there are any potential complications with that...?

Hi

I have a 2017 SLT Serria

I have power

Fold

Heated

Turn signals

I am not sure which tow mirror i should be buying. Is there any possibility to have the mirrors shipped to you and than you could ship them to me with plug and play ready to go?

Hello,

Long time lurker of the message boards, but first time poster.  Really appreciate the information that you provide on this message board as I think it has convinced me that this mod is attainable at my skill set.  Seems greedy to ask any further questions, but would you be able to look at my specific situation and provide feedback?

Just upgraded from an '03 1500 Silverado LS that I have had for 10 years to a 2015 Silverado LT with the DL8 power heated mirrors. Looking to upgrade to tow mirrors (aftermarket likely, but could be up-sold to GM product for a good reason or two).  Current mirror features include power adjust, manual fold, and heated. The only features I would like to move forward with on the tow mirrors would be the Amber running lights, turn signals, power adjustment, and heated. I am not looking to get into the power fold, or power extend versions.

Would my situation require any additional harnesses or adapters for use with these features, in you opinion? If so could you provide part numbers so I would know what I need to procure before opening the door up?  I can provide my VIN if needed, but my truck was built in October of 2015 in TX if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide!

So you currently have the 1st gen tow mirror now?  DPN?  Check you glove box for DPN.  If you can also send a pic, that would be helpful.  If your passenger mirror doesn't have a physical temp sensor probe on the bottom, don't need to worry about that.  Since your truck is an early 2015 truck, there will likely be the need to run wiring inside the cabin/under hood.  This is a separate GM Harness.  Also, if you do have the 1st Gen DPN tow mirror and have seat memory, there is workaround harness you'll need (from me) to get the passenger side mirror to fold (IF you go with power fold mirrors).

I don't have knowledge for trucks older than 2014.  My apologies.

You want GM DQS Mirrors if you want to retain the memory features and power fold.  I can source GM DQS Mirrors but my supplier doesn't ship outside the US.  I can ship harnesses to Canada.  If you want to move forward, please email me with a  copy of this message so we can move forward with invoicing.

There are no power extend (telescoping) options for these mirrors.  All manual telescoping.

Since your truck is a 2015, you'll want to inspect your door jamb connector harness.  You want to see if in the door jamb/cabin side of the connector, pins 9 and 11 are present.  This will tell us if the cargo light (white rearward shining light) and the amber running light circuits were ran to the door jambs.

You will need either to swap door harnesses OR modify your factory ones.  We have products to support either option you choose at our site - www.HarnessDR.com

I located the temp sensor behind the grille. No power fold or extend. The only upgrade on these new mirrors are the amber clearance lights on the front and the Rear facing cargo/ reverse light. Just need to figure out how to tie them into the BCM or existing circuits.

how can i tell if my truck has/needs the k40 option for the exhaust brake?
are the side mirrors turned on/off by the rear defroster?

thanks,

Check your glove box for the K40 RPO Code. You can also check your passenger side mirror and look for a plastic temp sensor probe on the bottom of the mirror (lower cap)

PGamboea,

I want to say thanks for providing the center console swap over cable. It worked perfect. My next project is DL3 mirrors. I would like to order your custom harness to change my DL8 mirrors to DL3's.

I will order the switch replacment Part # 23154702, can you make the cable to match that switch? Also where is the best place to pirchase the DL3 mirror?  Let me know the next step to get the cable ordered?  Thanks Neal Lanham.

Anyone have any luck finding switch 23154702?  I ordered PGamboea's harness and have a set of mirrors sitting here, but can't find this switch anywhere (there's one on Ebay but it doesn't sound they actually it in stock).  Everywhere I have checked is sold out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

@pgamboa I purchased a couple ready made harnesses in December to upgrade my DL8 to DL3 mirrors.

Finally had a chance to install them today and it couldn’t have gone better.

Another happy customer, thank you!

    • 87 down as low as $5.14 here... winning!
    • Progress... sort of.   Intake is disassembled, spider is out, fuel lines removed. Used a torch on the stripped screw with the lower intake off, much easier when I've got the intake sitting on my workbench, I made it talk. Walked right out with a pair of vice grips once it was nice and toasty hot.   New parts are piling up on my service cart waiting to be installed. Distributor, temperature sensor, new gaskets, fuel line kit, themostat, water neck.   My new pickle is I don't want to spend $600 on a replacement spider. I'm not sure IT is bad. I'm probably splitting hairs. Or it's $300 to send mine away and another 3 weeks of the truck just sitting. I have half a mind to assemble everything with the old spider to see if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pressure regulator to be safe. The obvious issue was the gushing high pressure fuel line which will be replaced. Getting to the spider really isn't that hard, and now I know what I'm doing , swapping it would be a breeze should it absolutely need one. Stupid, or smart?   The part that gives me pause is replacing the distributor. Well, it's already out. And I didn't mark it, whoopsie! Engine was at TDC when I removed it, I know that, so upon correct reinstall the metal tip on the rotor should point to the TDC mark on the distributor because that's where it was pointing on the old distributor. Worst case I'm a tooth off and have to re-stab it.   But then, what? I assume the truck will start. It doesn't appear the timing can be set. Here's the problem: These distributors can't be rotated but a degree or two, by design. What I read is Cam ****** needs to be -2 to +2 degrees, ideally at 0 (and checked/set above 1000 rpm). There should be enough wiggle to get that properly set, but checking the reported value is another potential issue. My Actron 9185 scanner says it supports enhanced GM PIDs and Cam ****** is one of them but it's unclear that I'll be able to correctly see it over OBD 1.5. I can see why people end up junking these things with life left in them. They're an absolute nightmare with tweener-year diagnostics/electronics and unobtanium parts.   Fingers crossed it starts and idles nicely. There can be hope, right? I'ma buy a lottery ticket the same day just in case.   Next steps..DO IT. I have not installed an intake before so I've been reading and watching a lot. Some say NO RTV except on china walls, some say DO RTV on water ports but not fuel/air intake. 1/4 or 3/8 bead on China walls? I think my strategy will be, obviously, RTV china walls with overlap on the gasket corners. Chapstick-style RTV the water ports. Leave intake ports dry. The only set of intake gaskets I could find locally are Edelbrock performance gaskets (uh...for an asthmatic 190hp V6? LOL) so we'll see how they do.   #NoToolLeftBehind. It took an hour, but my recovery mission for my deep 10mm socket was successful. It had rolled down the bellhousing and wedged itself between what I think are the fuel lines? I couldn't see it at all, but with a junk antenna I had laying around, I blindly went poking/sweeping for it, heard it clink, raised the truck, and caught a sliver glimpse of chrome with a flashlight way up there in Narnia. I had pushed it farther along the lines holding it captive, but within access of severely improvised tools, poking and cursing at it to finally knock it free to where I could get a fingertip on it to bring it home.    Not much to see.
