Boost auto tow mirror light problems.

I have some eBay tow mirrors and I replaced the clearance lights with the smoked lights from boost auto parts. I have the clearance lights set up to be on with my clearance lights and when my clearance lights are off they function as a blinker. I have a clearance light failing once again... ugh. 4 if the 8 leds are out. I’ve replaced my left and right and now my left is failing. The lights are expensive and seem to always be having issues. I’m not sure if I want to try another set from boost auto or if I should try a different brand. I want to keep smoked lenses in them, definitely don’t want amber. I’ve heard good things about the boost auto mirrors so idk if I just got a bad set but with so many of them having issues in such a short time (less than a year) it makes me wonder. Do y’all know of any better manufactures I could get better clearance lights from or could it be the way I have them wired?

It’s certainly not the way you wired them up since the light only has a single positive input to them.

I’ve had great success with 1A Auto/AM Auto Mirrors. They are branded as Trail Ridge Mirrors. But their setup is a little different.

What brand are the mirrors exactly because that could be your issue. I have had boost auto tow mirrors on my truck for a year and a half with zero issues. You could have gotten a lemon from them but their stuff is good quality.

When the the clearance lights are on, the blinker power is still supplied so when the blinker turned on, it does have power from both sources. Is that okay?

Yeah. They use a resistor in the running lamp signal so it dims the light slightly and a couple of diodes. When you apply turn signal, it sends full voltage, making it brighter as it blinks.

The running lamp assembly (pcb) has two rows of LEDs. Most likely, cold solder joint and a row failed.

Phil. Did I hear you say that the bottom caps are interchangeable between the oem and 1A auto mirrors?  Would that mean that the Intelllihaul cameras/bottom caps  would work on the 1Aauto mirrors?

Yes. They are. I was surprisingly able to interchange many parts. But yes, the housing is one of them that are interchangeable between 1A Auto/AM Auto mirrors and GM OEM.

Way cool. Do you have a link or part number for the chrome 1A auto powerfold mirrors? Can you get those or do I order from 1a?  Is your harness price the same as the oems

I found out boost auto has a 1 year warranty on all of their products. I sent them an email so we’ll see how it goes.

Here is a Chrome Cap, Power Fold from AM Auto. They sell the same mirrors as 1A Auto for a little less. It’ll come with the black textured caps installed and a separate box of chrome caps. This set also supports memory, which I presume you have based on your forum name.

You would purchase the mirrors direct from AM Auto. They have a 10-year warranty as opposed to Lifetime with 1A Auto.

As for harnesses, there are TONS of OEM harnesses out there priced at a large varying range.

What I do, is take an OEM harness specific to your build, and modify the harness to work for the upgrade you’re doing AND to the mirrors you are getting.

My harness build price for 1A/AM Auto Mirrors are $310. I do refund $100 if you send me your factory harnesses and also offer to buy back your factory DL3 Mirrors (again, presuming you have a Denali), as long as they’re in excellent working condition. This make your net harness be $210. This is shipped anywhere in the US. I do validate your truck as well. So if you’re early 2015 or 2014, additional harnessing may be required.

Lastly, I provide all the support along the way :)

Old topic, sorry to bring that back. I have DPN tow on 2017 sierra. Everything s working fine (cargo and reverse) but one thing bothers me. I can run either clearance or signal, not both. if i can remember... i got a wire for my mirror harness that i can put either in pin # 1 or 13... (1 clearance 13 signal). If i tap both wire together would i get signal and clearance?

No. You’ll backfeed running light voltage into your turn signal. And when you use your turn signals, you have double the voltage going to your park lamps.

You want them to dual function. I make an adapter harness that plugs in between the mirror plug and door harness plug. It changes the behavior of the running light by slightly dimming it down when it’s a running (clearance) light then apply full voltage when turn signals are applied, making it “blink”.

They are $125 shipped anywhere in the US. The only prerequisite to this is your mirrors have to be fully functioning as factory.

Sadly i beleive im missing a wire from the mirror to the harness...

ive got power on pin #9-11-41 (door harness)... and they are wire to the mirror... just missing the mirror part i guess.

Boost auto got one (dual fonction harness) I need to pull the mirrors apart tho ?

Do you git something similar Phil?

If you would like a more DIY solution I can show you how I did mine. I no longer am having any issues with them, they work very well. Mine blink when the clearance lights are off and stay steadily lit when the clearance lights are on.
