FOB and dead battery

Has anyone wonder what do you do if your fob's battery dies and you have push button start and as you know the vehicle will not start.

I went though the owners manual and doesn't say a word about it

No worries.  Driver's info center issues a warning when the keyfob battery needs changed.  And more than one fob is issued with each new vehicle.

I have heard (and I know KIA for sure does this) that even with a dead FOB battery it has enough residual juice left to start the vehicle 1 time by pushing the start/stop button WITH the dead FOB. There is a entry key in the FOB. (picture borrowed from JacobC1983 from his post in the push button start thread)

My wife’s Genesis has a slot you push the fob into if it’s dead to start it. We replace the fob battery every three years.

2019 sierra manual:

Starting the Vehicle with a Low Transmitter Battery
If the transmitter battery is weak or if there is interference with the signal,
the DIC may display NO REMOTE DETECTED or NO REMOTE KEY
WAS DETECTED PLACE KEY IN TRANSMITTER POCKET THEN
START YOUR VEHICLE when starting the vehicle.

Pictures from manual not copied, but pocket is in centre storage box or console, depending on seats in truck.

We have had an impala with the proximity sensing fobs / push button start since summer 2013.

Still on original fob batteries.

my wifes car is the same way.. there is a certain place you can put the fob (and still start) in the event of dead fob battery

Wish they would start making the FOB's self charging.  Then we could just put them on the cell phone charging pad.

Thinking about it though, I must not keep my trucks long enough as I have never had to change a FOB battery.

Our spare lasted 6 years. For the cost I just replace the one every three years. The car still under warranty at 8 years and we take it to the dealer. The service writer replaced it for free. I bought 4 Hyundai’s and several GMCs from the same dealer, they provide great service.

BMW keys used to charge while in the ignition, but user-serviceable batteries really are a blessing honestly.

Brand new (4 weeks old) 2019 2500HD diesel, perfect truck in all respects, until Sunday AM had a dead battery.  Truck had a horse trailer plugged in overnight but there is no running electrical on the trailer at all, and I do this every Saturday night to ride Sunday.  No problems in 4 weeks.  There was nothing on in the truck and even if I unknowingly had left a door ajar or interior light on, all of that seems to go off after a few minutes anyway like a fail safe feature.  The batteries both charged up and now show 12.4V, 935CCA.  I have no idea what caused this to happen.  OnStar diagnostics showed no codes.  Just trying to prevent a reoccurrence and not

get stranded.  Also, how big of a jump box does it take to jump this truck?  My regular box did not have enough power.

Welcome aboard!

These guys are discussing the battery in the key fob, not the truck battery.
