I just finished mine, looks good.  Went with red opposed to black even though the truck is Onyx Black.  There's enough red on the truck as accents already that I didn't want to have to go and make everything black as it would have bothered me.

Just to give some bit of experience from my install:

  • Took me 60-90 min actually, which seems to be considerably longer than most here but still not bad.
  • I spent a lot of time trying to route the wires and harness as best as possible to avoid seeing it through the grill.  Probably spent 20-30 min on that alone.  I did end up routing it similar to pictures from the 1st page incidentally.  Was difficult to squeeze through there but got it done.
  • Even after disengaging the clip on the headlight hardness, it was still very difficult to get it out.  Probably another 15-20 min here as well.  I don't know if my hands are bigger or something but it's just difficult to gain any sort of leverage.  I'm sure it would have been easier if you removed the headlight assembly per the instructions but even with the wasted time, I was happy not to have to remove the headlight assembly.
  • Taking the black cover off between/over the grill and radiator is essential to a successful install.  Removing the grill might have made things a bit easier, and I'm not sure it is very difficult to remove.  I saw 3-4 bolts but it looked fairly simple.  In hindsight, I probably should have removed it but it isn't required.
  • Saving the existing emblem is only possible if you remove the grill in my humble opinion.  Disengaging all the clips on the existing emblem seems very difficult to do without damaging them if the grill is still installed and the red inlays are still in.  Prying the red out of the chrome surround makes it easy but you will destroy the existing emblem this way.  No way around it.  I actually broke two small flat screwdrivers trying to pry out the red.  Tips of them snapped clean off.  They were cheaper screwdrivers but still, it's a tight fit.  Should have just went at it with a bigger screwdriver not caring about damaging them because they cannot be saved.

Overall impression:

  • They are not terribly noticeable in the daylight, which I like.  I haven't seen them in the dark yet but it's a good amount of light to not be obnoxious but still give it some pop.
  • Another user mentioned that the chrome surround is lost and that it looks better.  I agree.  The grill on my AT4 doesn't have much chrome really except the emblem.  It's a darker more subdued grey for the most part in other areas.  This makes the emblem fit better on the front end for sure, visually.  Unless you really like the chrome.  I know many other Sierras go full chrome in a lot of places (like the Denali) so if you like that look, you might think it's a small step back.  If you have an AT4 though, it's perfect, as they eliminated a lot of the chrome on that trim.

GM installation instructions are attached in PDF format. I suspect that grill removal and headlight removal will not be necessary....

What model and make protector do you have on your hood with the leds?  I like it.

Just ran across this today. Has anyone installed the new illuminated GMC emblem on their truck yet? I'd like to know how the install is and what it actually looks like in a truck. What's everyone's thoughts on them? I'm thinking of getting one but I'm kind of on the fence with it being too much. Part number is 84741557

Would it be possible for someone to post the measurements of this emblem please. Individual letters or entire assembly would be great. Want to see if it can work for 2017-2018. Wiring isn’t an issue just the size. Thanks

The dimensions for the T1 are “18 1/2" long and 3 1/4" wide”. The height is the same. K2 is 17” long

    • We have now!  2027 GMC Sierra  Early look, but I'm a GMC guy and so far I think I like the looks of the Chevy better.
    • HD at the moment, are kinda their own deal.  How LTZ sells on those vs on 1500, there is a difference.   They are merging most of the mid trims on 1500.  LT, RST and LTZ are replaced by one trim, Silverado.  LT and RST are a BIG portion of sales.    Bad naming choice aside, the new Silverado trim will offer the spread of options that those three trims offered.  So expect to see things like the tech package for example, and memory seats.  And LT Trail Boss will now just be "Trail Boss" (formerly LT Trail Boss) but will offer content spread like the new Silverado trim will.  The press photos showed the Trail Boss (formerly LT Trail Boss) has access to Super Cruise now, which on the current truck was High Country only.       Here is the Trail Boss interior.  Memory seats and Super Cruise are present.  All things the LT Trail Boss it replaces, and the RST it was based on didn't get on the current gen.  You had to go to LTZ or ZR2 for memory seats, and High Country for Super Cruise.
    • I installed a Hellwig rear sway bar on my 21 Sierra SLT, it made a huge difference on how the truck handles, no body roll, the trucks much more planted now. Not sure of the suspension differences between the 21 and 26,  if its body roll your having a sway bar will solve it.
    • So a follow up and my fix. I found in online searches the live data to look at on a scan tool to verify the fuel tank pressure sensor was working.  It showed an spec number towards the lower end of the rang, but in spec.  Then while it was running opened the gas cap and the pressure should change.  It didn't change even a tiny bit.  The data for the purge valve said it was open...never changed. So then I measured the voltages on the plug for the fuel pressure sensor and they matched what it should be.  So local car quest parts had the sensor in stock...it was a bit of a pain to remove and an even bigger one to get it to actually go back in.  It helped to unbolt the driveshaft and bungie cord away from the gas tank to give a bit more room to work. So fuel tank pressure sensor in I cleared the code, and started it up.  I went to the scan tool's live data and... Eureka! The pressure number was different and fluctuated a bit.  So took it on a short drive and pressure number varied saw the purge valve go from closed to open and back to closed.  Drove it to and from work for roughly a week plugged in the scan tool no codes.  I took it in to get tested and passed.  In my state's infinite wisdom (oops meant greed), since I pushed the test with the maximum extensions I have to take it back in by Feb '27 to 'get it back up to date', then my next test won't be until Feb '29.
