GM Updating Recall Due to Further Brake Issues in Pickups

I find it hilarious how many people said that we were wrongfully bashing these trucks because only a small fraction of owners were having brake issues. They would blame that we only know about it because people only come to forums to complain. Is that why over 900,000 units were recalled?

It’s called being a homer. Every car forum has them. But yeah GM trucks are perfect according to a few here. Nothing new here , no truck is perfect as many level headed folks have said.

Never use OnStar to start the truck and never will; never had a problem.

I have never used OnStar to start my vehicle either. I have had two brake failures, the first one occurred on 1/10/20 at 12,575 miles. OnStar isn't the problem. GM has no idea how to fix this issue. Here is a link to a thread showing there was brake failures basically on the release of the 2019 silverados, it's dated November of 2018. Read the second comment. Just because it hasn't happened to you yet does not mean it's not going to.

I use on-star daily to start my truck. Guess I better go in and get this fix. :(

My issue with GM is not that they can build a truck that has problems, it's how the company takes care of the customer with those problems is my concern with GM currently. Duct tape and bubble gum fixes that i see dealers being forced into performing instead of part replacement has really turned me off to GM these days. They seem to be willing to lose customers over minor issues that they think they are saving money on when really they are losing customers for good, not going to come back ever! Bara has run her course with this company and really needs to be replaced, it is turning back to pre bailout stupidity levels imo.

So this is a fix to the fix.  I never had the original recall taken care of yet.  In fact, I have three open recalls pending...the pretensioner, the B+ battery cable and the original ESC/ABS recall, which has now turned into a second recall.  One of these days I'll get around to taking them care of.  Maybe I'll just wait until there are a few more recalls.  That means fewer trip to the dealer.

"2 million test miles"

The GMT9's were reliable, day in and day out dependable. My 2010 never put me down for a single day. GM has fallen off a cliff in the JD Power reliability tests since then. Why? Too many useless features like active shutters, lane departure, adaptive cruise etc. Cheaper computer hardware sourced from China with much much less attention paid as it can now be "updated and modified" by software updates. They can now rush products (trucks) to market and solve the bugs down the road as they develop better software. Much like computers, your iPhone, your kid's xbox etc. Anything with a modern computer is done this way now, "fixed" via software updates.

Maybe GM has been spending too much time developing useless features and software and has forgotten about how to build the rest of the truck to be reliable as they have for 100 years.

I don't need active grill shutters, I need to go to work, I need to go on a trip, I need to go for a drive, I need my flippin' $65,000 truck to work properly. Everyday. People don't want to give you a years salary to be without a truck a month per year driving loaner Sonics around and I don't blame them.

Same here. 30 minutes each way to the only trustworthy dealer in town, so I try to maximize my trips and leave the problems to pile up so they can all get solved at once while I grab a loaner.

Since I started hearing problems with the first recall I stayed the hell away, especially since my brakes have been functional with the app. Even now, I’m not sure if I should trust the recall’s recall because that might be recalled too.

The people doing GM’s software need to all be let go. People in cold climates who’ve had their trucks long enough remember the debacle with “trailer disconnected” errors every 3 seconds last year. They didn’t release a fix for that until after winter was over and the error was no longer occurring anyway. This brake stuff, being much more critical, has still taken months and months to get right and how many people can even trust it?
