While out on a dirt road enjoying my newly installed prerunner suspension I successfully turned off the Traction Control and ESC (electronic stability control). Went for a run down the woops and ESC turned itself back on and applied the brakes during one of my drifts. COMPLETELY unexpected and caused the truck to handle undesirably (to say the least). In talking to another Chevy guy he said the ESC turns itself back on at 35mph and above!... Is there anyway to 'tune' this out and make it stay off when desired?

This is exactly why I held onto my 05 Duramax for so long. It had ZERO 'nanny hardware' that would f*#k with me while offroading.

You are disabling a federal requirement so there won't be any tuner stuff available to turn off esc.  Your only option is to disable another module or sensor that ESC needs to function.  There are three options depending on what system you want to disable.

1.  Pull SDM fuse.  This will disable the air bags in truck.  ESC uses long and lat acceleration signals.

2.  Disconnect wheel speed sensor.  You will either lose or have limited abs and tcs.  This could affect auto 4wd.

3.  Pull eps fuse.  You will lose steering assist so probably not a good idea.

I would not recommend pulling abs fuse because you have eboost and will lose brake assist.

Wow!! Looks like I'm SOL... They really tied that thing into some really important other stuff. Dangit, I was hoping for something like my DFM "kill switch" module that was a plug in and play type thing.

I'm definitely not going to mess with airbags, speed sensors or steering assist. Thanks for the complete info!

Cheers!

Excerpts from the Manual below - So it looks like yes, it will come on above 35mph.. only way to keep it off is to be in 4WD-Low :)

From page 27 of my Sierra Manual

Traction Control/ Electronic Stability Control The vehicle has a Traction Control System (TCS) that limits wheel spin and the StabiliTrak/Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system that assists with directional control of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. Both systems come on automatically when the vehicle is started and begins to move. . To turn off TCS, press and release g on the center stack. The traction off light i displays in the instrument cluster. The appropriate Driver Information Center (DIC) message displays. . To turn off both TCS and StabiliTrak/ESC, press and hold g until i and g illuminate GMC Sierra/Sierra Denali Owner Manual (GMNA-Localizing-U.S./Canada/ Mexico-1500-11698638) - 2019 - CRC - 3/5/19 28 In Brief in the instrument cluster and the appropriate DIC message displays. . Press and release g again to turn on both systems. StabiliTrak/ESC will automatically turn on if the vehicle exceeds 56 km/h (35 mph). Traction control will remain off.

Then from page 247

When the transfer case (if equipped) is in Four-Wheel Drive Low, the stability system is automatically disabled, g comes on, and the appropriate message will appear on the Driver Information Center (DIC). Both traction control and StabiliTrak/ ESC are automatically disabled in this condition.

Last week the side airbags accidentally deployed while doing some off-roading.
This was an adhoc  incident, as have been off-roading in the dunes for a couple of months, but this time there was no reasons for the airbags to deploy.

Therefore need to install a switch to cut them off while doing some trails or tracks getting to a camp site.

      Correct me if I’m wrong.

      I have a 2016 Silverado 1500

      they can fit 33x11.5 factory.

Negative Offset in a wheel pulls the wheel out from the inside of the wheel well.
so if I have say a -24 mm offset wheel I can accommodate a wider tire.
I have mixed reviews on largest tire size. I only have the front leveled 2 in.
I just ordered a set of 5 pro comp wheels with -38 mm offset. Could pull the wheel out 1.5 inches.
      im looking for tires. I wanna run a 305 70 r17
      34x12
this should fit with no rubbing?
I forgot to mention I have a barricade pre runner front bumper with skids.
just looking for some reassurance on that tire size before I order. Looking to order on Thursday.

Have been expereincing intermittent brake lights staying on after engine shut down for several weeks. Took it to the dealership, who ran a diagnostic on the truck and came back with "all things look normal, no codes". By the time I got home, the brake lights were in a state of constant "on" and I was able to restart the truck without applying the brake, even with the key fob outside the vehicle. Received several Onstar warnings to "Service Parking Brake". The parking brake had engaged and would not release. I disconnected the battery for 20 minutes, reconnected the battery which cleared the code. Called the dealership and was told I would have to leave it with them for awhile (several days to a week) to find out what the issue is. Would be ok except they do not provide a loaner car and rentals are thru the roof in our area ($100/day) so I have been living with this inconvenience until I can find an alternative way to work (80 miles rt).

Then this happened over the past weekend:

While driving back from the lake with my boat in tow, the truck went into a critical brake failure mode. Here is the series of events. Moored boat at dock and went to retrieve truck to remove boat from water. Could not unlock door on truck with FOB. Truck was "dead". No voltage activity. Used 12v portable jump pack to start vehicle. Let run for @20 min before proceeding to drive home with boat attached. Check engine light was on for 30 seconds then went out, but no warning dialog boxes. After we were on the road for @15 min, in rapid succession, I received the following warning dialog boxes: Service Trailer Brake System Service ESC Service Parking Brake Brake System Failure - 62 MPH Top Speed Check engine warning light Traction Control Off warning light ABS Off warning light As soon as I saw this, I tried to apply the brakes and they went to the floor. As you might imagine, it was chaotic in the vehicle when it became apparent that the vehicle along with the 6000lbs of Boat/trailer in tow was not going to stop in any timely fashion. Along with the trailer brake failure and vehicle brake reduction, the backup surge brakes on the trailer would not engage due to the lack of quick inertia braking force. I had the pedal to the ground and eventually we came to a stop. The rest of the ride home (2 miles) was a 5mph white knuckle event.   The insult to the injury is there has been no warnings, email, text or posted on account from Onstar about this series of events but... I did get one on the same day that my Oil change is due. I am posting the screen shots I took after we came to a stop.

It is being towed to the dealership tomorrow. I will let you know what happens.   I absolutely love my truck. It is the 5th Chevy that Ive owned, and sadly the worst one of the bunch.   M

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 and just this year when the cold weather started, in the mornings when I start driving I get traction control off, stabilitrak off, and brake fluid low messages. I don't lose power and nothing else happens. After the sequence the traction control turns back on. It does it when I start accelerating and sometimes just random while driving. Anyone having this problem?
