Let's use the favored lower numbers. This virus has an R0 of @ 2.5 at an interval of 7.

The population of the USA is roughly 327 million.

The entire population would be infected in roughly 145 days.

At a 1% MR 3,272,000 US Deaths. IS that acceptable? Is half that acceptable? That's your best case with 'let her rip'.

Chicago Mayor is getting serious about containment. Police Super say WARING PERIOD IS OVER. Now we act. Ticket Arrest. What ever it takes for people to take it seriously.

Mayor says if she has to shut down every park and street she will if people will not follow the LAW.

City counsel has bought up over 2,700 hotel rooms to house homeless.

State medical is say unless Shelter in Place compliance improves greatly that we will run out of med resourced in just a few more weeks. Beds mostly. Staff secondly. Swabs and Culture media. She also noted that Illinois by far already has the best compliance levels of the 50 states but more is needed. She reinforced there is NO CURE and there is NO VACINE.

Med said phones have been used to anonymously track people movement for the entire USA.

I don't mind, for one, watching from the sidelines.

I have seen a lot of commentary on Canadian tv pointing out that when stuff like this happens it shows that we need manufacturing back in North America and not in all these shit hole countries. If our economies were stronger we would be able to weather a storm like Corona better. Thanks to the lefties like the Clintons and our ahole Liberal party in Canada, we are on the damn near on the soup line now.

Most of our pharmaceuticals are made in China. Maybe this will finally wake some people up.

Her final question. The answer is.....NO.  This tread alone makes that point. Division. It's what humans do.

Plus about 90% of the junk at Walmart! That use to be made in North America.

I heard an experience of a fellow the other day from his middle school years. Social Studies Exam asked the students to draw a line from the name of a Government to a set of definitions. Among them was Theocracy. The dictionary definition is:

:a system of government in which priests rule in the name of God or a god.

The teacher copied it word for word. This fellow raised his hand and said the definition was incorrect thus there was no choice. Asked why he thought that he pointed to the Greek root of Theocracy. Theo thus rule by God, not priest. As there is but one God there wasn't a choice that reflected the true meaning of the word being offered. Teacher instructed the class to skip that question. She must have know her Greek. :)

This is a health issue and it's been turned into poly-ticks, commercial interest  nationalism and ethnic origin division. No one here is going to fix anything but what they control under their own roof...me thinks.

In our company, we're taking precautions almost all the way. Hand sanitizers everywhere in the office and shop, half masks, glasses, gloves, disinfectant wipes and so on, to the disposal of the employees. And yes, of course it is meant to keep the guys around and not simply take the easy way out.

Even if it is sometimes tricky, we're keeping the crews together and not rotating people as we need them.

Sure, it's very inefficient. But at the end it'll allow us to keep working and keep the economy going. At the same time, we're taking the pressure off the government aid and do our part that this money is going to the people who really need it.

Furthermore, our company is paying an extra 100 bucks weekly to compensate for the increased prices in the stores and for extra costs caused by the pandemic.

And those are just examples. We're trying to keep going. We have to. To get through this, we have to do our part.

And then you have this lady coming out of her house, approaching one of our slab saw operators to tell him that his work is not essential.

She's under self quarantine whit her two kids and want him to stop working.

So, she comes out to talk to the operator (she put herself under quarantine, remember?), who was cutting the road about 50-60 feet away from her house and asked him to stop.

He did the right thing and called the site supervisor who made his way down there to talk to the concerned citizen.

Before he got there, she already called the city main office and they eventually cancelled the job.

Duh!

15 days ago there were 200 confirmed cases in the USA. Today as of now...68,572. Yea, we got a handle on it.

Chicago Mayor has the boys in blue in force on Lake Shore ramping up compliance. Next move. Close the lake front and city parks. People are bringing it on themselves.

Earlier I crunched some numbers for the USA and made an assumption that the USA was like China with a single point of origin. Ground zero if you will but the truth is there were multiple first persons in several parts of the country. That multiples the geometric progression by the number of first case incidence.

I get people making the choice to "Live Free or Die". To put THIER economy head of safety. For themselves. Question is, do you have the right to make that choice for everyone else.

My personal opinion is, that our (Canadian) government should shut down everything for at least 21 days!!!

I can survive financially, no problem. But I am not the majority.

Yes, we make the choices for ourselves. But we're minimizing the impact for our company and for the economy as a whole.

I am telling our customers: "...ok, get the layout done and we'll take care of the rest...".

The intention is simply that my crew arrives on site, does the job and leaves. No interaction with other people required.

As of now, I'm not taking on time-sensitive jobs. Simply because that I can't commit to jobs. I don't know when an operator is calling in sick. And I am the last person to give anyone a hard time about it. I asked my boys to be straight up with me. A few guys did , and no, I didn't lay them off!! I respect their concerns and I pass it straight to our customers. "Sorry, I don't have a crew available". Simple as that. And our customers understand. Not one of them gave me grief about it. They actually appreciate my approach of things. They're adopting and give me 48 to 72 hours of notice.

Note, it's not just the direct deaths (those that catch COVID19 and for whatever reason, even with proper medical attention, die from it or from it causing other complications).  There's also the much larger group of people who catch it and need hospitalization (either just a "regular" bed, or a spot in the ICU).  And those two groups (those that need to be hospitalized, and would then either die or eventually get well with proper medical attention), is expected to (particularly if we go along with our fearless leaders plan of getting back to work really soon) exceed our hospitals capacity (both in beds and equipment).  And at that point, it becomes everyone's problem, as it's not just COVID19 patients being turned away at the hospital, it's everyone, from babies with complications, to accident victims to any other medical problem requiring hospitalization.

So that wack-job Lt. Gov in Texas's idea of just getting back to work and the old and infirm are willing to risk it so he can go back to making money, is lying in two ways:

1)  he's NOT risking his life in any way.  First sign of a cough, he's getting the nearest ambulance to toss out whoever's in it and get him to the nearest, best hospital with a police escort, and then drag someone out of their ICU bed for him to sit on until the best doctor in the hospital see's him and he says "I think I have a bit of a cough and I might have COVID19.  You need to help me right now!"

2) he's risking everyone else's life, as anyone who happens to need hospitalization during his planned trainwreck can lose their life simply because of lack of resources, even if they don't have COVID19 or have recovered from it already.

You people have it wrong. It’s a virus period. It’s not about who lives or dies. Chances are we’ll get it eventually. The concern is overwhelming the hospitals. Period. Even ifs there’s a vaccine the effectiveness will vary from year to year, just like any flu. There’s only so much money in the kitty. There’ll come a time when economics vs our new status quo comes to play. Fear mongering doesn’t do anyone good.

We’re about to be hit with the stay at home order. It basically covers business. You can still jam the store. My brother’s business among other things does eq repairs and sales. By design it spaced out. The technicians wear gloves. Are spaced by bays and usually work alone. They even have mask. The secretary’s are separated by at least six ft. The sales staff, my brother, nephew, have their own office. Parts guys too. One machine they work on usually has a crew of 4-6 waiting to work on a pipeline Row. So with a stay at home order he’ll be eligible for the basically free money to meet payroll and over head. The dilemma, some of the staff will actually make more than a 40hr paycheck on unemployment. They’ll be in a hurry to get back to work. Stupid, stupid, stupid. One of the new requirements for being a congressman should be a IQ test. I’ve could have done better.

    • Not a distraction. You miss the point of the article. It's not just for today's situation. Another way AI is being used and it may explain some of the prices changes when there is no apparent event to cause a 25 cent jump out of nowhere, only to immediately, the next day, begin to drop by 2 cents and so on. These situations were happening before the Iran thing fired off. I thought it was interesting

    • Disclosure: BlueV8 is a Supporting Vendor and sells plug-in AFM/DFM disablers.   Before you spend a dime with us — or with anyone — try the AFM disabler GM already built into your truck. It's the shifter, and it's free. ⏱ The 10-second version 🚫 Skip the M5 method if: Most of your miles are highway — M5 locks out 6th gear, so you cruise at higher RPM and burn more fuel You already know you'll forget — it only works if you do it every single drive Your lifters are already ticking — nothing that switches AFM off repairs existing damage You already run a tune or disabler — this would be doing the same job twice ✅ Worth trying if: You want AFM off today, for exactly $0 You want to test-drive V8-only life before buying anything Your driving is mostly town and short trips, where 6th gear barely matters Your truck is leased or under warranty and you won't touch the ECM — this is zero hardware, zero software 💡 The whole trick, in one paragraph Owners across GM forums keep reporting the same pattern: put the transmission in manual / range-select mode, pick M5 or lower, and AFM never activates — the truck stays in V8 the whole drive. Bump it up to M6 and V4 mode comes right back. Two of the cleaner threads on it are here and here. GM has never documented this behavior, so file it under "strong owner consensus," not gospel. The good news: it takes exactly one drive to verify on your own truck. Steps below. What "free" actually costs Effort, every drive. It's a routine, not a setting. Shift to M, tap up to 5, every time you get in. There is no set-and-forget here. 6th gear. When GM shipped trucks with AFM/DFM switched off during the 2021 chip shortage, its own estimate of the penalty was about 1 MPG — and those trucks kept every gear. In M5 you're also giving up overdrive, so expect the highway hit to be bigger than that. Patience. One Tahoe owner ran the L5 routine for two months, then got tired of it and bought a plug-in disabler — he had an extended warranty, so flashing a tune was off the table. That's not a knock on the method. That's just what month two feels like.   I put together the full instructions, limitations, and links to the original owner discussions here: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/how-to-disable-afm-for-free-the-m5-method
    • Disclosure: BlueV8 is a Supporting Vendor and we sell AFM/DFM disablers. We wrote this because not every GM owner actually needs one. In some cases, regular maintenance, towing use, an existing tune, or simply using M5 makes another device unnecessary.   ⏱ The 10-second version 🚫 Skip it if… You keep the oil full and change it every ~5,000 miles. Your risk is already low. You're happy shifting into M5 every drive. That disables AFM for free. Your truck tows heavy most days. AFM barely runs under load. You already run a tune or delete kit. Done is done. It's already ticking or misfiring. You need a mechanic, not a plug-in. ✅ Worth it if… You bought it used and the oil history is a mystery. Checking the dipstick is… not your hobby. (No judgment.) You're a long-term keeper with lots of easy highway miles — exactly when AFM runs most. The V4 drone and shudder drive you nuts. You're under warranty, so a tune is off the table.   The full article includes the supporting GM bulletins and owner reports: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/do-you-actually-need-an-afm-disabler
