snowman44 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 I would like to paint my exhaust tips black and have been reading up on this. At this time I don't really want to get into taking exhaust tips off. Do you think high temp grill paint or engine paint would work? 1
Max Z71 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 High temp paint should work but since they are chrome, you need a primer that works on chrome. Otherwise the paint will peal from the chrome. But you can always repaint as needed. Taking them off is easy. I replaced mine with powder coated ones. Looks so much better black. Good luck with painting.
Transient Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Do you have a pic of yours? I'm considering doing this too.Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
RyanbabZ71 Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 They aren’t hard to remove. I had my 10 yr old son do most of the work. We used it as a “life skills” class for eLearning [emoji23] either way the black looks better than chrome. Imm no purchased powder coated ones Ryan B.

I'm more in love with the ZL1 in the background than the black exhaust tips, and i really love the black exhaust tips.Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

Transient Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 I've been doing some digging on black exhaust cutouts in the rear bumper. I ran into a dead end on GMPartsDirect. Turns out GM does make some. I found them on a Midnight Edition Silverado Trail Boss. I wasn't able to grab its VIN, so I went to Chevy.com and used the build & price tool. When I clicked on the Midnight Edition package I noticed the truck's exhaust cutouts turned black. I then finished the build and clicked on the button that allows you to search available inventory near the default zip code GM's website input. I was able to find a midnight edition Silverado, and wrote down its VIN number. I then took the VIN number to my local dealer to find the part number. They gave me the part numbers, but told me the parts are on backorder. Nobody near to the dealer's search area has them. I then jumped on to GMPartsDirect on my cell phone and searched the part numbers. They are below. The result revealed these are for the Carbon Pro Edition GMC Sierra. I checked the compatibility for the Silverado, but GMPD said they aren't compatible. I get it. Go look for these without a part number and no VIN and all GM sources say these don't exist. IIRC, the price for the black exhaust cutouts are about $10 more each than the chrome ones on GMPD. I want these for my Northsky Blue Trail Boss, so I'll dig a bit further into this to find out how long the backorder is. I'm trying to eliminate all chrome from the exterior of my truck. Hopefully this helps somebody out. Left Side: 84644535Right Side: 84644536Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk 2 1

Transient Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Any luck on these?I haven't looked further into this yet. I moved across the country. When I posted that I was living near Virginia Beach, VA. I'm now in San Diego, CA, and drove the new truck the entire way. Just got the keys to my house on Friday, and my furniture arrives Monday. It's been a crazy time for me. I'm sorry. Hopefully I can get back to this soon. I want to eliminate all the chrome on my truck badly, but this cross country move was something I needed to get through before I could finish my truck. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

Just looks like a PITA to remove them and really don’t want to snap any plastic on a brand new truck. I might dip mine first and see how that goes. Plus not sure what color I want to go with yet as my bumper is black and truck is the Satin Steel....
