What we have here is a grumpy old bear saying, "He's going to loose all  your money" and a third party saying .....

but hey, he is right about the last part and I thank him for making my point for me.

It’s kinda like when we were young and naive. I do think they’re neat to look at. Maybe I should buy one, custom build a clear polymer enforced glass hood and then I’ll be happy with it?
It’s pretty though....

Sure is. I use to have these on my tuner Honda's. Injen I believe. Colorful, shinny. Looked good under the hood with the custom ignition and fuel rail 'up grades' and polished tower brace. Added custom tunable cam gear, header...yada yada yada. Chrome, polished alloys..yum..... :) 

 

The only things that actually worked was the short throw shifter and the Red Line MTL which totally transformed the way the box came in and out of 1st gear. And the KYB gas double adjustable shocks/struts. 

 

The ignition system failed as fast as you could swap control boxes. Pretty hard to improve on a Honda ignition. Cam gear did zip anywhere but the dyno room. The header was a total waste of money. A Honda stainless exhaust is 'forever' Header not so much.

Wow both guys that have modified their trucks for their own taste are chastising people for doing the same. I’ve had several factory hot rods of late that had factory aftermarket looking CALs on them. I agree they don’t add too much today like they use to. But they do add sound. And makes the owner happy. Much like lifting and lowering and buying different rims. Some guy showed his results before and after. Motor Week even showed fuel mileage gains, plus performance gains on one their shows. Even a advertiser on this site has shown gains. So being skeptical is one thing, belittling someone is another.

Wow!  If this isn’t the most hypocritical thing posted. OntheReel gave us all real life numerical data showing his improvements and this older cynical man makes this comment?  Unreal. Just shows how closed minded some people are.

Grumpy does have a point, no one wants to admit anything wrong with what they’ve done especially cause they’re costly add ons that may or may not add horsepower but hey, they make a sound and look cool under the hood.

Although I didn’t buy a truck to race it, you guys think that I’ll definitely get some additional horsepower and torque by adding one, especially being that I’ve got a performance tune on?

Maybe, I should have my engine cleaned before I install one, wouldn’t want to clash under the hood.

I’ve also seen posted on a few threads that some people are swapping out the 5.3 throttle body to a 6.2 throttle body prior to installing a CAI, specific to the new throttle body.

Just circling back after yesterday...

 

After installing my fuel line magnets last night, I'm happy to report that I got to work 2 minutes earlier today!  Real-world numbers, boys!  That's some science!  Straighten out those fuel molecules and you can see the benefits, too!

Glad those worked for you.  Some people will install the magnets backwards, then just throw them away when they get no benefits...

All this arguing... Just run your cold air kit of choice, but be sure to install a 2 port catch can and switch to Oreilly brand 10w30 conventional oil and a Fram filter. Did I miss anything?

An engine is basically an air pump. The more air you can get in and out of it, the more power you are going to make. This is why heads are ported and polished. Intake manifolds are port matched to the intake runners and headers are matched to the exhaust ports. Is it really necessary to have a 5 angle vs. a 3 angle valve job. If you want the most hp you will get the 5 angle. It will smooth and flow more air around the valve and the valve seat creating hp. Its all about increasing and smoothing the air flow through the engine.

Why do high performance vehicles use mandrel bent exhaust tubing instead of crush bent tubing? Because it flows more air more smoothly. Just like a cold air intake will flow more air, more smoothly than the factory intake. The factory intake has a restrictive filter, the accordion style adapter, and the huge silencer. These all create turbulence in the air flow which slows it down and causes a reduction in air flowing into the engine (a loss in hp.)

Although each one of these mods mentioned may only give you a small increase in air flow and hp. They all add up to make a noticeable difference.

All of this post is rock solid. Especially this last part quoted above. 

 

Here's the part that gets lost.

All the air enhancement in the world only shows at.......

WOT

 

The throttle body is located AFTER the air box so any possible flow increase happens AFTER the blade is open far enough and the rpm high enough to exceed the capability of the original configuration. Actually that would be true if the blade were before it as well. 

 

If the OEM is capable of 325 hp then the increase, if any, isn't being used until the demand on the motor exceeds this number.

 

When you see that increase in torque 1500 rpm below peak power that number is still being generated at WOT. 

 

When might happen? Towing a steep grade with a load heavy enough to demand WOT in the lowest gear it will hold at the speed being traveled. (Ya need more truck) Drag racing (at the track). Passing in a situation where you shouldn't be (You need better judgement). On the dyno. At Bonneville or Murdock. (All of which are fun) 

 

Give that list a look and ask yourself what percentage of the time you are driving is spent in anyone of those situations.

Got my cold air intake from CAI installed today. Had a bit of a problem with getting the stock PCV valve off until I realized you have to push the little gray tab in, then pull. Took her out as soon as I finished (about 30 min) and immediately noticed an awesome sounding note coming from the engine bay when I gave it some gas. Normal driving I didn't notice anything. But taking her onto the interstate and giving her some gas was pretty awesome!

They claim an average 12HP at the rear wheels and increased fuel economy. Although I have no way or desire to test this, I'm definitely pleased with my purchase!

This is a good read. https://www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/air-intake-restrictions-explained/  Ultimately any restriction to incoming air in an engine will result in reduced volumetric efficiency. For example a dirty air filter at any rpm range will reduce how efficent the engine is at filling each cylinder with air. The same is true for a cold air intake that is designed to flow better than the stock air box. At any given rpm it will be more efficient at filling the cylinders with air, thus creating more power. 

On any vehicle I have installed a cold air intake on, I have personally noticed that I need less throttle pressure to accelerate up to speed, along with a slight increase in fuel mileage. I highly doubt I will ever recoup the investment in fuel costs, but I don't really care. I like the way it looks, sounds and feels while driving it, and thats enough for me.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.    
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
