Any of you with the Alenza's on the 22" rims have a review of them?  I am driving out to IL on Sunday to pick up my '22 Denali, and while looking at Tire Rack I saw that the reviews for them are terrible.  33 reviews isn't a real sample size, but less than 3 stars isn't good.  The truck will see mainly highway miles in the Northeastern US, and snow is a definite.  Any reviews would be helpful.  Thanks!

I've got a little over 40000 on the Alenza's that came with my 19 Denali. Ride quality has been excellent. Very quiet. They were decent in the rain when relatively new. After about 25000, that went to hell. I live in upstate NY. Many snowy days. The tires are flatout poor in that regards. They are pretty much shot now. I'm waiting for my new truck to be delivered. More Alenza's.

That's what I was looking for, Thanks!  I will probably drive them through this winter, and then put something else on it.  I was looking at the Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires.  The reviews on them are great.

I too have some real experience with the Alenza's.  When I bought my 2020, I had some serious balancing/shaking issues in which the dealer replaced all of them.  It took them 3 damn days to get them road force balanced within GM's acceptable limits.  I haven't had any problems since.  As for highway driving, excellent.  Very smooth and quiet.  These things in the snow are horrible!  I purchased another set of GM wheels with dedicated snow tires and it goes great.  I live in NH so we see every season at its best and worst.

I don't really have room to store a spare set of wheels and tires unfortunately.  If the Alenzas are that bad in the first snow, I will likely replace them before the next storm.

The factory Bridgestones are pretty good out of the gate, but when they get to a certain tread depth, the tire becomes terrible in the rain and snow.

 

Just replaced the Duellers on mine with a set of Cooper AT3 S4's, very happy so far. Michelin Defenders repalced the Alenza's on our Tahoe, such a better tire.

The Bridgestones are a marginal tire at best. I hated them. Brand new they seem half worn and overall dont look good. I replaced mine with Michelin defenders at 350 miles. I already had experience with the Defenders on another vehicle so no surprise how great they are.....and why they have good reviews. Also the have a great tread wear rating and deep tread....they last! They do everything well, rain, quiet, look great, but I have no experience with them in cold or snow as i am in Fla.

I would not drive in the snow on the Alenzas. My truck came with AT Duellers and those are ok in snowy weather. But they ride nice, are good in the rain, and I’m too cheap to upgrade tires at only 10,000 miles.

that's the stock tire that comes on my wife 2020 X5 , pretty quite and smooth and i have also seen them on other luxury SUVs as well.  Basic street tire to me?

You can also fit a 305/45R22 on your truck without modification. Just to give you a few more options.

Yes you can. Michelin Defender 305x45xr22on Fuel Mavericks 22x10,+10 offset.

These are the best highway tires money can buy.

(Some) dealers in this area have a storage program for seasonal tires.

Of course it's a fee above the swap-the-wheels fee.  

 

But it's convenient for those that use the dealer for do vehicle servicing and tire swaps.

They look good, and as stated above fantastic Highway tire...I am at 14K on these and have no wear. Deep tread.

I have them on my 2021 (22's) and have 21,000 miles. I been through 2 winters and although they are not the best snow tires I got by.  But then again, I use AUTO all the time in the winter contrary to what many believe is advisable. I was going to replace them the first winter but I could not find anything. All I could find were winter only tires and I don't want to be swapping tires spring and fall.  But I am retired so I don't have to drive when its that bad.  My 2017 had 22-inch Dueler A/T with an aggressive tread that was good in snow but they discontinued that tread design in 22-inch.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
