I had update a month or so ago. My AA seems to work good. If it's up on screen I can ask it anything send or listen to incoming text or make calls all hands free.  I just have to hold down my steering wheel button longer and atomictly will activate AA.

That's exactly what I am saying. My 2015 had Android Auto as does my Camaro. Incoming texts are able to be read TO me, with no need to look at a screen, over the audio system. With the new trucks, GM has moved to Android Automotive which no longer mirrors the functions from your phone to the screen and instead uses more directly integrated functions within Android Automotive.

In order to get the system to read an incoming text message to me, or use voice to send a reply, I have to pay GM for a subscription to their data services. Even if I opt to use my phone as a hotspot and connect the truck to it via WiFi, these functions are actively blocked. They ONLY work through the pay-for data services offered by GM and that is what I mean by blocking safety functions behind a pay-wall. They have forced me to either pay their monthly ransom or choose whether I wish to endanger my life (and others) by looking at a screen.

Mine seems to work just fine for reading me messages and me telling it what to do.

Odds are, you have Android Auto in your truck, not Android Automotive which was released in the refresh models.

I had the transmission update done to my 22 Yukon in Sept 24 and noticed a front howl noise shortly after. Brought it back to the dealer after  few weeks and they are blaming it on tire noise. While I was in they performed the gateway module and radio update and now my speakers are making a static popping noise that was not there before. They also charged me a diagnostic fee for the "tire " noise but now I am suspicious that it's a transfer case issue.

so update on the call quality issue. It seems to have gone away for some reason. I tried testing with android auto connected and disconnected on the radio and no longer have the crackling noise on the speakers in the truck for the person on the far end speaking.

I also need to try and find a solution but I noticed that in my testing without android auto in use, if I receive a call on my work RingCentral line, my phone automatically answers the call for whatever reason but if I am connected with android auto, the RingCentral app will ring on my phones screen but never come through the radio for the call session. Who knows what that issue is because RingCentral is nothing but a problem for us at work.

I'm really torn on if I even want to use android auto. So far the only bad things I have with using android auto is the voice assistant taking over on my phone and not the truck unless I press the button on the steering wheel, and with my RingCentral account not ringing when a call is incoming.

The bad with not using android auto is the minute or 2 nagging alert if you have a data consuming app like google maps running when I start my truck it will tell you that you need an active data subscription but once my scheduled task on my phone kicks on my mobile hotspot and the truck connects to my hotspot, the message will clear itself off for you. I also have the problem of RingCentral calls auto answering and microsoft teams chats can't play through the radio while i'm driving like they do under android auto.

Has anyone else experienced any resolution to their audio crackling noise on calls after the update? There haven't been any app updates under the play store or for the radio since I went in for the recall work but i've been playing with so many things on the radio i'm not sure if I fixed it myself or it just is something that comes and goes whenever it feels like it.

ok i didnt know text messages could be heard by audio. never had a truck that could do that. i guess its like gm taking away auto volume control, if they cant control it than they think you shouldnt either

I have a 2022 1/2 refresh and have ZERO radio issues. ANDRIOD audio has always worked flawless. My only gripe is with the center cluster and the tach being on the wrong side and how BAD the Bose system is with Bluetooth.

I had the update about a month or so.  My speaker would crack when on my phone.  Mine have seem to went away. So hopefully that update worked.

I'm sort of guessing / theorizing here, but it might at least lead you to a resolution for the RingCentral thing.

This is an app, not "the phone". As a result, it would need to be supported via Android Auto, and you would likely need to enable its functionality within AA in order to be able to interact with it on the truck. It would very likely behave like an audio player as opposed to a phone device.

Got my recall done this morning. They told me it could take a while when I signed in. I got there at 730 and was leaving at 845 that included an oil change as well. The only difference I saw was my mirror tilt in reverse was turned off in the settings menu.

Hmmm...

I can get my audio system to "pass through" to my phone for voice commands by holding the button, but there's no way to tap the screen when a text comes in for it to "Play" the message back. That fails 100% of the time with an error about needing a subscription. Used to work flawlessly on my 2015.

This sounds like you're in bluetooth-connected Android Automotive on "the chevy side" of the system, not Android Auto (sometimes better referred to as phone projection).

There is no true Android Auto on my truck... GM moved to Android Automotive instead, directly integrating a few key functions right into the Infotainment so they can lock those to "subscription only" functionality without allowing the projected functionality from actual Android Auto like they did prior (and most automakers still do).
