I believe you are correct. Those cranks suck. The chamfers are way too big. Roughness is bad but, how many cranks are worse than that on the many rebuilds that many bring to everyday machine shops? Stock rebuilds, hot rods, etc. Most to all seem to last anyway.

Thinner oils need a smoother surface. There are a lot of rough cranks out there lasting. But, yes, you are correct.

Looked like a handful of sugar sand on the bottom of the pan.

 

Both of the engines they took apart had failed the pico test. I would like to see one that passed taken apart.

I appreciate your honesty, but there is a difference between honesty and an opinion.  It would've been nice if the title had solely been informational, as opposed to toxic.  I am in that group of model years the NHTSA is now looking into.  I'm glad they are.  And, if I'm adversely affected, it is what it is.  I was already planning to prepare for the worst at 100,000+ miles.  My wife heard me watching the video and asked what I would do if my engine failed (again, ie, repeat of 2007 Tahoe engine failure caused by DOD) at 96,000 miles and 6 months out of warranty).  My response was simple:  Rebuild it stronger (deleted and cammed) and supercharged.  I'm keep the truck, even though I paid for it with my "imaginary" money.  It's cheaper to repair it than to replace it.  I believe in falling forward.  When you fall, it sucks.  But, get yourself up and in a position where you benefit from it.  Today, (to paraphrase poet Robert Frost) I choose to take the road less traveled.  Doing as the majority does, pissing and whining, hasn't benefitted me ever.  Sorry a simple opinion from a simple man struck a sour note with you.  It's just a shame that a comment that didn't tear anybody down, nor lay blame or insult, cause such a tirade of a post.  Have a good evening, sir.  I said what needed to be said in my original post.  Now I'm done.  Any reply from you will fall on deaf ears.

My finale comments on this as I no longer have a dog in this fight, Sold my 2021 LTZ Z71 6.2 this year with 17K miles after finding the glorious glitter in the oil. Yes I lost my a$$ on it. 

 

@ 70 I thought this would be the last truck I would buy and the first show room new. I was a die hard GM fan owning many Silverodo's and GMC's over the last 50 years. Gone are the days of driving a GM truck 250K-350K miles with proper maintenance. Will I ever buy another new GM truck...Only if early 2000's or back. 

 

I do want to thank everyone here for there support and help. Great forum. Not leaving the forum just dropping back to the older truck section. Good Luck to everyone with there issues.

You’re echoing my exact thoughts. My retirement truck was a new 2014 Texas Edition. I had a 92 Chevy truck that was modified and lowered. The cylinder deactivation drove me batty. I traded the 14 in for a SUV. I had the 92 for 12 years and later the avalanche a 2002 for five. There isn’t a used full size truck I’d feel comfortable buying. When you get older you buy the most reliable. I never thought I would have anything but GM in my driveway.

Never got a second letter and the recall had disappeared from the app, but I checked it again yesterday after there was an app update and it showed a required recall and the ability to book a service appointment specifically for the recall. Have an appointment for Thursday the 13th but got a call that they need it overnight. Now I gotta find somebody to pick me up and drop me off to pick it up the next day. I'm close to being due for an oil change anyways so it works out. Hopefully it passes.

Can't they take you where you need to go after you drop off the truck, and pick you up when your truck is ready?

They stated on the voicemail they don't provide shuttle service. I'm also about 20 miles from the dealer.  My parents live about 40 minutes from the dealer and they're in their 80's so I hate asking them to drive there to pick me up. I know for the engine replacement they are supposed to provide a rental if needed. I'll try to call tomorrow and see if I can get a rental. They gave me one when they had a service bulletin when I had it in before and wasn't expecting them needing to keep it overnight.

Wow, they should take care of your transportation, especially since you're under still warranty. I don't know of one dealer in my area that wouldn't AT LEAST shuttle you. Some have given me rentals, others hired Uber. Even the Mazda dealership gives my wife a loaner, and her car was less than $40k.

It only took the dealer and GM corporate three days to get me a loaner when my 6.2 failed the pico test. Don't plan on one immediately if you need one.
