Hey Guys,

I drive a 2009 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 4x4. I noticed something that concerns me today when I was driving on the highway. I had the open highway to myself tonight and decided to push my gas pedal down! and come to my notice my truck wont go passed 160KM/H, the HUD display that the truck can drive 200KM/H? What's going on?

Its called a governern limits your speed . built right into the computer. as soon as you hit 160km it cuts off the gas i think .

Normal GM speed limiter. Mine won't even go that fast. Mine cuts off at 95mph (~152kph). The limiter has been a part of GMs options for many years now.

Sorry!

Should not be going over 160 anyways. Young kids do that .

Wouldn't, Shouldn't, Couldn't...ahhh we all gotta have fun sometimes...lol

Mine was an empty truck on an empty highway...I was the only idiot around.

If I pay $30k plus for a vehicle, it better go as fast as I damn well please.

"Aftermarket tuner" to the rescue. :)

That's why this old fart's gonna get his removed in a tune after he gets some speed rated tires on it. To me, that limiter is a safety hazard during passing situations, which is about the only time I would drive that fast (momentarily :D ).

I agree 100%. Should be left up to the driver to decide what speed he wants to go, not the manufacturer. It's called

"personal responsibility" - something lacking in society these days

I programmed mine out so mine will only be limited when I'm out of hp.

I figure when I need to go full out there will be good reason and I don't want some stupid computer keeping me from doing so. I figure some time in December this year when the world is coming to an end I will need that extra speed to get to where ever I need to get to in a hurry... :D

LOL........That's EXACTLY why the limiter is there. j/k, only have to deal with it until you get a tune, then drop the hammer and watch the speedo needle get buried to the right!

At higher speeds the driveshaft can let go too guys. I've seen it on some videos of dyno pulls. Don't be stupid. If you want to go fast buy something meant for it. And saying it's about personal responsibility is idiotic- what is responsible about driving a vehicle beyond it's abilities? I can also safely say in 12 years of driving I have never encountered a situaiton where the limiter interfered with passing.

But whatever. As long as you do it alone on an empty road I don't care. If an idoit kills themselves it's not a problem. It's when they hurt others that I have issue with.

That's exactly what I mean by personal responsibility. I should have the freedom to choose how fast I drive - but if I f up and kill someone I need to be prepared to deal with the consequences.

I get the same crap from the anti-gun crowd. They talk like guns leap up off the table and kill people. PEOPLE kill people - the gun is no more dangerous than a hammer. It's just a tool.

And BTW - 22 years of driving, exceeding 100 mph at one point or another in every single vehicle I've ever owned, and not one high speed accident. Common sense goes a long ways. You don't go 120 through a city. You do it on a long, straight and empty road.
