Dual exhaust, Which should I choose?

I have just purchased my 2nd GMC truck, a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 all terrain edition. I am looking to put a dual exhaust system on the truck but I'm not sure which one I want to go with this time. My last truck was an '04 sierra and I put a flomaster dual on it and it sounded good but I'm not sure I want this truck to be as loud as that one. The new body style sierra's have a nice sound to them from factory but it's just a little quite. I don't want interior noise to change a whole lot this time. I've heard that GM makes an OEM dual exhaust kit but I cant find anything about it online. I would like to just dump it out after the muffler and not install any tips to give the truck a sleeker look. Do you guys have any ideas which route I should go? Thanks!

I haven't found much info out there about the OEM dual exhaust either. Just enough to be pretty sure that I have one on my truck, which I bought used last month. It's a cat back system with single pipe after the muffler until it gets to the rear axle, then splits. There's GM markings on the muffler and tips. Downside is it's pretty much the only exhaust offered that requires removal of spare tire. It sounds great. Excellent tone and just a little louder than stock on the highway IMO. It really bellows at acceleration and downshifts, or any high rpm driving. My system has polished 4" tips welded to the pipe out the back. It was one of the selling points for why I bought it, aside from that spare tire part.

I just got off the phone with the parts dept. at my local GMC dealership in regards to the OEM exhaust. GM does make a OEM catback exhaust system with gm muffler and tips. HOWEVER, they do not make one for a 2007-2012 GMC pickup. My guess is you bought one for a yukon or something since your spare won't fit under the truck. I was bummed out man I was hoping for a good solid GM built duals system with a warranty! Oh, well guess I'll have to settle for an aftermarket.

interesting. I'm owner #2 on this truck so the previous guy must have modded it to fit or something. There are many people on here with after market systems that love them to death, so I wouldn't be disappointed.

The GM was just a rebranded unit from Corsa or Borla and last I knew it was only offered up to 2008 or 2009 whenever they switched the cat flange design. You'll get a better system for less aftermarket with a warranty still. I have a dB which is the Corsa muffler with pipes made from a lower grade stainless to save cost. It was like $550 (normal Corsa is nearly $1000). Sound is terrific, install was easy but pipes look awful after one winter and I wash my truck almost weekly during the bad weather. Tip is ok cause it is the higher grade metal still.

What is the interior sound level like with your Corsa compared to stock. Does it have a bad drone at highway speeds?

At steady speed/throttle there is almost no additional noise in the cab, maybe deeper but that's it. The magic happens when you romp on it. No drone, AFM when it engages at bad times makes a bit of a rumble as the engine lugs but this is more felt than heard. I have a video I made. It's in the review section. I'm on my phone so I can't link to it, sorry.

Other than the pipes looking ugly (no sign of real corrosion, just surface rust at this point) I like the dB kit, it sounds fantastic and was a great deal IMO.

Hm alright cool. I was looking at the flowmaster 70 series big block II because of the supposid "no change in interior noise" but ill have to give the corsa a look before I make my decision.

IMO.... without adding a higher performance cam to your truck you are not going to get any significant hp gains.

Headers, Long Tube.... maybe 10-25 more hp plus some extra torque but a very satisfying sensation. Got mine on Amazon, ceramic coated, delivered for $347

Cold air intakes.... Look great but nothing much more yet very appealing. Might actually lose a little response on take off. Got mine delivered for $74, one day special online somewhere.

Mufflers.... just for preference of sound. Mine{no name brand} was included with the custom exhaust from headers back running out the side in front of rear wheel with two chrome tips. $260 total parts and labor

I am very happy with everything I did but it is really about my personal preferences. What I like in looks and sound. And with the side exit exhaust mine is very unique. I would do it all again but if I had to pay alot more I would not be as happy as I am.

Just my 2c on the matter.

Whoever you talked to is incorrect........Yes, GM does have a cat-back for those years. It is made by Borla and rebranded by GM as GM PErfromance Parts. The Silverado kit has a bowtie on the tip and the Sierra has GMC o nthe tip. My dad has one on his 08 V-Max and the dual kit requires removal of spare tire. Here are the part numbers :

The dual exhaust kit is part # 19158642

The single kit is part # 19158653

The GM duals are listed $785 and the single at $630. If the GMC dealer doesn't know they make an exhaust, just order it from Borla. The GMPP kit comes with flex pipe, not sure about the Borla one.

The flange changed in 09. Anyways, I had magnaflow on my last truck and I thought it was perfect. Not too loud, not too much drone (if any), and noticable when you stepped on the skinny pedal. I'm probably going to do magnaflow on this truck but I'm considering giving MBRP a shot.

I never recommend Flowmaster since they rust out. Get Magnaflow, Corsa, Borla, MBRP
