Purchased a vehicle this past week, something to keep me busy with, and something that will be much less painful to pay for if my truck ends up getting repossessed. 2005 Crown Victoria LX Mechanically sound, body is a little rough, hail damage, and some little scrapes here and there, interior in decent shape. Will be nice to be back in a car again, will make turning and parking much easier, but also glad it is a full sized RWD sedan. This will be my 5th Crown Vic in the past 20 years. 3 of the 4 in the past were the P71 Police Interceptors. Nothing special about em, just beefed up suspension and a couple extra coolers for the fluids, but they are fun to drive and you have all the room in the world in em, not cramped into some compact. I take delivery tomorrow. Will post pics then. In the mean time, we're waiting to see if the credit union will defer payments on the truck for a few months. Paid for the Vicki with the credit card. A monthly $50-100 credit card minimum payment bill is far less painful vs a $715 a month truck payment. Yeah my credit gets screwed if the truck gets repossessed, but oh well. I'm still upside down on the truck by about $15,000-20,000 Maybe I'll get lucky and land a job very soon. Ya'll do yourselves a favor- if you are in a decent paying job, don't leave unless you have something else already lined up.

Good choice! One of the best cars ever built IMO. My wife has been commuting 70 miles a day for 14 years in hers ('86 Grand Marquis). Leaks a little oil, but burns none. Garaged all winter.

I can't speak for that generation, but the 1st gen Grand Marquis and LTD were bulletproof, aside from the very first CPI injected units - total piles of dung. Rest of car was still just as good, though. By '86 they literally bulletproofed the FI system. Mine is still running after 14 years, 238k miles, although it does have a quirky idle speed. Will slap a carb on there whenever I get tired of that, but we deal with it - used to it now.

Just changed the injectors last year, only because I broke one when removing them to replace o-rings. Just changed the OEM started this spring. Still on the OEM fuel pump, p/s pump & steering box. OEM water pump and alternator lasted 20 years! OEM A/C compressor just replaced last year. The plastic is getting extremely brittle, and the vinyl top is starting to dry out and fade, but she still does the job. Excellent power and 21 mpg with my wife driving. I've never touched the transmission aside from filter & fluid changes. Put new seals in the rear axles 5 years ago. Did ball joints in '05 - over 120k on those now. Just did door pins and bushings this summer. That's about it in 14 years. Try that with these new Silverados!

Went down and put tail lights on the boat trailer and ran 20 something foot of new wire (however much it was that came with the light kit). Also put a junction box and new 7 pin connector on the trailer. Figured out the solenoid for the surge brakes works, just need to check the brakes and put 6 new tires on the trailer and it'll be ready for the road.

Why 7-pin? I thought most boat trailers with surge brakes just needed the flat-5 connector that no one ever has the adaptor for.

The trailer had a 7 pin when we bought it so we replaced it with one I guess would be the main reason. There wasn't enough wiring to plug into the truck AND be able to make a turn w/o ripping the plug out so we needed another 1-2' of wire for that. That junction box is pretty nice so hopefully it works out and made wiring super easy, I think even my dumb self could have done it. Plus we needed new tail lights and whoever did it last jury rigged the crap out of it, wasn't even done right. They didn't run the opposite side's wires so there was no turn signal for whatever side they didn't hook up. Who the heck splices into one side's lights to run to the other side?

I think later on we might rig up the wiring to charge the boat batteries, like RV trailers do, when it's hooked up to the truck so the 7 pin will come in handy for that as well.

Got the air bag/seat harness software recall done today. 40 minutes and long enough to look at some new trucks/cars.

I thought I'd get used to it, but no, just pulled the Ziggy stripes off of my truck, I just couldn't take it any more.......

I washed the truck and wifes car during today's lunch break. Both cars were the worst they have been in a while, inside and out.

This car wash has a compressed air tool and we always use it, but this time I even used it for the cars air filter and box. No more dirt and leaves sitting at the bottom!

Use # 1,002 for chinese food container wire. :D

Anti-rattle clip for my Volvo 940 rear brakes. Worked great, and saved me $18. :smoker:

Forgot to take the pic when I had the wheel off - this is looking at the inside of the left rear wheel:
